  • Volkswagen have decided to build it's all-new Crafter commercial range to offer the same level of safety - and similar levels of comfort - as it's passenger car range. Tim Robson spent a week with the Volkswagen Crafter to see just how comfortable and safe it really is.

Great configuration choice. Load carrying and towing great. The ZF 8speed is a winner, but the safety tech is the impressive addition and hopefully we’ll see this tech on the Amarok soon, as it’s the absence of this gear which is impacting sales.

Something to consider if thinking about buying this van! I've driven this the sprinter and the transit back to back. The crafter is £1000 more expensive than the base model sprinter yet does not come with cruise control as standard though the sprinter does as does the transit. The seat on the crafter also only moves backwards and forwards where the seat on both the transit and sprinter move up and down as well as backwards and forwards, this especially important when driving long distances. The sound system in the base model is also very poor compared to that of the transit though not much worse than the one in the sprinter. The fuel tank capacity is also much less than that of both the sprinter and the transit requiring fuel stops. The steering is nice and light and the motor has plenty of pull on the motorway but if 8t was my money I'd definitely go for either the sprinter of the transit over the crafter as you get a lot more for your money.

The Crafter has Lane Keep Assistance, but the Sprinter doesn't. That's a big factor in my eyes

Iv'e had two, UTTER Garbage the pair of them.
If you need a large van do yourself a favour and buy a Benz, they are expensive at first but long term it will save you plenty and make you plenty
