Careful with these blue gels. The color indicator used is toxic.

Good to know. It might be prudent to use a dedicated convection oven or air fryer, or at least clean it thoroughly after use. The color indicator in question is cobalt chloride if anyone is curious.

@@shanesgettinghandyI've seen reusable silica bead pouches sold and they recommended microwaves to regenerate...
I was curious if an air fry would be just as good if not better...
If it's safe in the microwave, theoretically... the safety should be the same, no? 🤔

mix tons of white silica with it.. you only need a few for indication..

Everything is toxic to a degree. If you have symptoms like headaches, eye or skin irritation, know that that's your body telling you it's really toxic.

@@jdubdoubleu yeah i got a headache handling my hot silica even though i did it in a conventional oven outside. now I use an organic vapor mask as well. there is a slight possibility that its placebo but the smell is definitely weird on mine so i might not use that oven for other stuff going forward.

You can also put them on a paper plate and pop them in the microwave on defrost. A couple 4 minute cycles with a chance to cool in between and you are good to go. You want to do cycles to let the moisture out of the microwave.

good idea! I was going to buy a dedicated electric oven for my silica gel (microwaves do not work so well...) but an air fryer cost less and force the air to be changed! I will take this option! :)

I have no idea what an air dryer is. So I don’t think I will be using this idea. But I am glad you didn’t get kicked out for messing with the wife’s air fryer. I hope it still makes great French fries!!

You can dry it the same way, even if it doesn't have the color indicator.

You can leave it in the bag, but it might take longer depending on the side of the bag. It will be faster if they are spread out evenly on a sheet.

what is the in-line air dryer for your compressor line?

    • @shanesgettinghandy
      @shanesgettinghandy  19 дней назад

Moisture in a compressed air line can cause various issues, it depends on what your compressor is used for if it’s important or not. Plasma cutters don’t handle moisture well, paint sprayers have issues as well. Air tools can have issues with internal rust over time. All in all, it never hurts to dry the air.

The problem here is my silica gel / dessicant comes in a paper wrap which, when heated that high will combust. 💥 Even in the microwave

Oh no! I suppose you could dump them out, but that’s not very convenient.

I would assume so, but be sure to thoroughly wash the trays or anywhere the silica gel was touching.

@@shanesgettinghandy yeah, yesterday I pulled out all my desiccant and heated it in my fan forced oven for several hours at 90 degrees.
      It turned blue again.
I looked last night and the dry box was down to 19% humidity. Originally it sat at about 10% when the desiccant was new. I’ll be interested to check it when I get up in a little bit.
