Following @AnikaJensen-j1i 's and @mugesuer8678 's questions, I want to add a postscript here: As said, there are times when media boosts some sort of narrative which directly or indirectly cause people to perceive the gap at some extreme levels and usually (possibly) unintended consequence of this, people suffer a great dissonance and to deal with the suffer some people may resort to hate speech or simply accept their current state as unchangeable and thus an OK state, which doesn't help the situation to be resolved and to be ignored by the masses as time passes. That mechanism is hard to break but we will explore some examples of those situations and possible intervention strategies in future sessions. Stay tuned!
So, based on your perspective, can we also say that narratives boosted by media (algorithm, mainstream headlines, etc) are kind of tools that can alter public's threshold (like your mentioned marketing tricks) so that we see things as a problem although, originally, we didnt bother at all at the first place?
@@AnikaJensen-j1i Exactly! It couldn’t have been explained better than the way you put it. I will talk about the importance of language and media from the systems thinking perspective in the following videos but briefly i can say that what is true for problem recognition in personal level will hold true for both group and society level. Thank you for asking👍
Yes, great approach here! When the gap between desired state and current state is extreme, people tend to accept the current state as OK (desired) state after a brief (but challenging) period. We will talk about this situation when we explore system interventions, especially around the subject of interventions to decrease the gap. Small Spoiler: You either have to dice and slice desired state to close the gap through utilizing potential leverage points in the system you are dealing with so that people can act rather than feel paralysed, or you have to decrease the perception of gap through use of communication and language

Could it be that the big problems are not on your radar because they are sooo big and sooo above your threshold that they simply overwhelm you?

damn, kudos! thats exactly my point of view
