Thank you so much "AMC" and the creators of the show for 4 seasons of one of the best TV series I've ever seen. This show gave us so many amazing characters and Hewlett is one of them. The kindest character I've ever seen! Major Hewlett is the very personification of a real man and a true gentleman. There were so many terrible things happening to him, but he always found the strength to fight and live. Burn Gorman perfectly played this wonderful character!

Hewlett was probably my favorite character in Turn. He's just so... human. Even if he's on the other side, he's not a bad man, and within the constraints of his time always maintained a level of decency and civility despite setbacks that would break lesser men. You captured his character superbly.

The creators of the show did a phenomenal job in creating the quintessential eighteenth-century Englishman: somebody steeped in the Classics, in Enlightenment-era ideas, in the advances in the sciences of the period, and who moreover upheld values we consider admirable and relevant today: due process, justice before the law, mercy, loyalty, an abhorrence of slavery, and an adherence to those principles in the face of adversity.

Right. But at the same time, given the level of threat he thought he was facing, he regretted the decision but also knew the lives of his men and town were far more important than gravestones that were thick enough to stop musket balls. He maintained his honor.
Major Hewlett is such an underrated character. He deserves so much more love. The edit certainly does him just!
He is my favorite character!
He was my favorite too... I can't see how anyone else would think otherwise... the best character of them all.
Truly a good series... can't spoil it other than to say what happens isn't what you probably think... it's beyond what you'll expect.
Even a die-hard American patriot like myself cannot help but feel extreme sympathy for Major Hewlett. Fictional though he was, he evolved from a stuffy, pushy bureaucrat to a brilliant, tragic, complex, and brave character. A man betrayed from several directions and yet triumphed (personally, if not professionally) with remarkable grace. A very interesting character with a really engaging and surprising arc.
How on Earth Burn Gorman performances in Turn didn’t result in awards and hundreds of leading roles I’ll never know.

i genuinely started hating abraham when he started plotting to kill hewlett especially after they made a deal, thats how much i liked hewlett, to the point where i started rooting for the ''enemy'' instead of the main character

And Abraham kind of ruins Hewllett... was glad how the series concludes though.
I so don't want to spoil it... just that it's good. You won't feel let down at all.
By the way, don't do research on the real historical characters until after you're done watching the entire set of series. It makes it much better.
If you're Canadian... well it's probably already spoiled a bit.

" This is a very True statement because that same struggle eruppted in France Several years later during Their Revolution and reason DID Loose to Savagry and Bloodshed which gave rise to the Great Terror and the massacring of thousands of people Till the Thermador Reaction.

TheDragon64 I think she really did love him but she couldn’t “love” two men Abe and Edmund. She really did break his heart, because he loved her and protected her more and better than Abe ever could. Poor thing. Props to Burn Gorman for the beautiful performance.
Chloe Patterson they fancied each other, but Anna had to “choose” between Hewlett (who truly loved her and could protect her) or Abe and her country. So.... yeah
Edmunds heartbreak hurt so bad. Im glad he found love in the end.
I’ll never understand why Anna picked Abe over Edmund! Abe would have not even been on my radar. I would have picked Edmund, hands down!!!

Man, that was deep from Simcoe, who I've really enjoyed as a character... and yeah, Hewlett changed, but only for the better, despite him being good hearted and faithful from the start, his experiences with Simcoe changed him... *_Forged Him!_*
After watching TURN 3 times I adored the character of Hewlett. Just a wonderful job was done by Burn Gorman.

This show is very underrated and the actors in this show really did a great job with the characters and they deserves more recognition. GREAT VIDEO!!
My favorite character on the show by far, such an amazing performance. I screamed when they brought him back, I was really concerned he was gone for good.
I don't even watch that series (yet) and still, I was touched by the video. The music is perfect. The story of this major sound more than interesting ! Can't wait to watch that series!

A man who wanted to be an astronomer yet chose to become an officer to support his family financially. The military isn’t his life calling but he was very good at what he did and carried out his duties with compassion and empathy. Definitely deserves respect
I tried watching Turn, but gave up before this character arrived. After watching this, I'll give it another shot. I remember this actor from Game of Thrones. He's definitely versatile and I'm happy to see he's getting work.
I love conflicted roles, playing in the grey area between good and bad, whatever perspective you may believe or not. Burn Gorman played Hewlett perfectly as a conflicted character.

Burn Gorman is a talented actor to be able to play such polar opposite roles with such conviction.
Oh yeah btw zurik if you make another GOT video can you please you stannis's quote "we must do our duty, no? Great or small we must do our duty". Garrostudio used it in a game of thrones at the perfect time but the rest of the video wasn't really too good tbh although i do really like him aswell. I know you said you're not for a while but just when you do.

I'm in love with these darn edits-
Hewlett proved to be a respectable man of his time, a learned man who seeks order in the world while remaining true to his ideals. He adapts to the new situation after he gets hit by the harsh reality of the war and brutality in this world. The most intersting thing is that Simcoe sees Hewlett as his creation, while the real Simcoe turned out to eventually become a person you could consider Hewletts creation, had Hewlett been a real person. The real Simcoe went on to become a respected and loved leader in southern ontario, founding the City of York and initiating the laws that eventually freed the slaves in Canada well before it became the norm in the british empire. Today there is a city and a lake named after him and the province celebrates an anual Simcoe Day.
Hewlett was based on a real person as well. The Oyster Major Richard Hewlett of Setauket. Difference is his story in the war was mostly over after season 1's events

You and your friends are an inspiration in editing videos. Один из двух персонажей, которые знакомы мне из других сериалов - Карл из Игры Престолов. Его роль мне нравилась в ИП, хотя она была очень маленькой и короткой. Он поразил меня своим голосом, и теперь есть целое видео, чтобы насладиться им. Интересный персонаж, добрый и умный (насколько я понял). Я удивлен как видео может быть таким интересным и динамичным , даже без экшн части... Кадры - вот чем ты поражаешь. И их тут было предостаточно. Например, мои любимые: лодка в туманной реке, кадры сверху с заточением (они вообще поразили меня, красотища), и конечно же кадры с подыманием глаз. Обожаю такое в твоих видео.

I think major Hewlett is probably my favorite character in all of television ! His only flaw was probably telling major andre that Culper was woodhull even when he was about to leave to England and done with the military( he came back to America because he had no money).

Haha I have never seen this show but it seems right up my street being a big fan or the Sharpe series. But i must say, being in the merchant navy this character Hewlett seems to be exactly like a Captain i sailed with, looks like him, talks like him, has the same mannerisms as him and the same personality. He had quite a reputation and seemed a bit eccentric and wasnt well liked as a rising officer but once he became Captain, in private, many of the other Officers i spoke to about him admitted to how much they liked him and liked working for him. I have fond memories of that time despite his reputation. A man of principles and standards.

just finished Season 1. Cool series. The first 4 episodes were a bit slow, but it was similar in GoT. It gets more thrilling from there.

I'm glad you liked it! Season two start so amazing. You will see a new methods of spying. I have three tv shows in the first place - Spartacus, Game of Thrones and Vikings. I can't choose the most favorite between them. Next is Turn and then Black Sails.

Could you do a video like this on Robert Rogers, I thought he made an excellent antagonist (particularly in season 1) with Angus McFayden giving him a calm and assured menacing air with an enormous presence. Indeed, apparently George Washington described Rogers as the one man who scared him.

Zurik 23M очень жаль, ведь сериал достойный. Одни Симко с Хьюлеттом чего стоят, ради них и хотелось смотреть. Мне лично было жаль, что женские персонажи уступали им. Пэгги и Эбигейл мне очень нравятся, но они не дотягивают до тех героинь, когда смотришь и думаешь "Черт возьми, я преклоняюсь перед этой сучкой". Хотелось бы видеть побольше видео по Повороту, не только о персонажах, но и о социальных явлениях в сериале - жестокость, измены, любовь, патриотизм.
