Sensei! With all due respect, I call BS! We're talking about Bleach here, it was very good from the 1st second when "On the Precipice of Defeat" sent chills down my spine, ong that song has it's own spiritual pressue.
However... we gon' bankai that 'good' very soon indeed.

That's the same thing my son told me when we first watched these episodes! (He read Shonen Jump and knew what was coming).
I think skyscrapers as everything in Ichigo’s world serve to symbolise his mental state, or rather the state of his resolve. Water/rain showcases his sadness, while buildings - the desire and ability to fight. When he lost that resolve and trained with Tensa Zangetsu, not only everything was flooded, but instead of skyscraper city we saw just a small countryside town, without anything that tall in it. When Ichigo gets a revelation about OMZ, because he felt sadness from betrayal everything gets immediately flooded, but I think a lot of people miss that every skyscraper gets destroyed at the same time. Not only he feels sad, but his resolve to fight gets shattered as well. Similar thing probably happened before his battle against Aizen, we just weren’t in his inner world to see it happen in real time, only the result.
I don’t have such ideas as to why they are flipped to the side however, maybe just to highlight the surrealism of this world and separate it from the real one.
Yes it is. It serves its purpose of introducing the viewers to the nuances of the saga and gives us a full display of Ichigo's initial rough and reluctant heroism. And the Shinigami introduced more or less as antagonists serves as foreshadowing to what we'd discover later about their ancestor's actions that set the worlds on the current less than pleasant trajectory. It's a solid way to start a series.

The sky scrapers could be another way of a hint at the Getsuga tenshou. "piercer of heaven " having old man zangetsu at the top symbolizing where his peak of power is..sky's the limit(a band name of mine...corny...still)😊

2nd. Ichigo seemed to have a good time fighting..I wouldn't say it white....but it's a hint and the smile feels kenpachi. I'd say ichigo likes battle at some level

kubo does confirm that it was ichibeis influence that blacks out "zangetsu" from saying his name is actually ywach. I dont recall which question # but it can in fact be found in klub outside .
He stated that he's aware of that. What he follows that with is he doesn't think that he thought that far ahead about that plot line.

But despite having a glancing knowledge of the Dune world due to the Westwood RTS games, Bleach was the first time I saw the concept unpacked. It's always amazing to see the greats meet.

It's been a minute since I watches the early episodes and I'm struck by how much the animation has changed.
Your explanation of "Bleach biology" would be a little confusing to anyone who doesn't already know it because we can't see whether you're saying "whole" or "hole." There are "hollows" and "wholes" and the hollows are the ones with the holes. Wholes become hollows when they get holes. It makes me wish Kubo had used some other word for "plusses." (Besides "plusses.")
Why sideways skyscrapers...? Dammit! Now that's gonna bug me!

Bleach was the first Shonen I watched (aside from Dragon Ball), so this was the arc that got me into anime in general.
The skyscrapers in Ichigo's world could be structure. His inner world defies common notions of up and down and what is right [side up]. He's not in those buildings and they can be destroyed, right?
I liked the inclusion of, I'm just going to call him Bing Bong, but even though he is largely inconsequential he does let us know that the shinigami have specific roles, and he did try to g8ve rukia an "out" of how he reported things. He offered to sell a romance story to the soul society rather than tell the truth

I think bleach first arc gets much unnecessary hate for whatever reason it's good introduces us to the world and characters the only bad aspect may be it went pretty long
Kubo was kinda finding his groove, NGL. SS hit the ground fucking running though.
It better be, because people are gonna be very confused otherwise.
