Italian National Anthem explained The Italian National Anthem "Inno di Mameli" or "Mameli's hymn" is also known as "Canto degli Italiani" or "Song of the Italians". This article will help you to better understand its significance... The National Anthem of Italy was written by Goffredo Mameli in the autumn of 1847 but only became the Italian National Anthem in 1946. Mameli was a Republican born in Genova in 1827 who joined the war with Garibaldi to fight the French troops. The French, at the time, were supporting the Catholic state in Rome. (See the history of Rome Italy for more). Goffredo died 2 years after writing the Italian National Anthem. He was only 22 years old and his death was as a result of an infection due to a war injury. His remains are kept in the Mausoleum of the Janiculum. I have tried to keep the translation as close as possible to the original meaning but the Italian Anthem was originally written as a poem (then made into a hymn) and is therefore open to a certain degree of poetic interpretation. Brothers of Italy, Italy has awakened; Scipio's helmet she has put on her head. Where is the Victory? (ref. 1) Offer her the hair; (ref. 2) because slave of Rome God created her. Let us unite! We are ready to die; Italy called. Yes! We have been for centuries stamped on, and laughed at, because we are not one people, because we are divided. Let's unite under one flag, one dream; To melt together Already the time has come. Let us unite! We are ready to die; Italy called. Yes! Let's unite, let's love; The union and the love Reveal to the people God's ways. We swear to liberate the native soil: United, for God, Who can beat us? Let us unite! We are ready to die; Italy called. Yes! From the Alps to Sicily, Everywhere is Legnano; (ref 3) Every man of Ferruccio (ref 4) has the heart and the hand; the children of Italy are called Balilla; (ref 5) The sound of every church bell calling for evening prayers. Let us unite! We are ready to die; Italy called. Yes! They are branches that bend the sold swords; (ref. 6) Already the eagle of Austria has lost its feathers. the blood of Italy and the Polish blood (ref. 7) Drank with Cossacks But its heart was burnt. Let us unite! We are ready to die; Italy called. Yes! The following references are made to the Italian National Anthem: Ref 1: "Victory" was the name of the Goddess of victory. Ref 2: "offer her(Rome) the hair"; in reference to an old tradition of cutting women slaves hair short, they are calling on the Goddess Victory to offer her hair for Rome; because by divine will of the Gods she was given into slavery to Rome. Ref 3: Legnano is the site of a famous battle in 1176 where various Italian comunities fought against Emperor Federico Barbarossa for their freedom. Ref 4: Ferruccio was a captain who valliantly defended Florence from the troops of Charles V in 1530. Ref 5: Balilla was a nickname for Giambattista Perasso who was a child from Genova that fought in the 1746 people's revolution of Genova against the Austrians. Ref 6: "Sold swords" - referring to Italian mercenaries bought by the French to fight against the Italian Republicans. Ref 7: "polish blood" - referring to the Austrians who jointly with Russia invaded and destroyed Poland. Reference to the word "coorte" = cohort (a part of an ancient roman legion, it was composed of between 300 and 600 men) so... stringiamoci a coorte = "let hold us in cohort style" / Let us unite Italian National Anthem [Italian/English] ruclips.net/video/vU_-IvNbfQ0/видео.html
Sure, here is the information about the Italian invasion of Libya in short: * Italy invaded Libya in 1911 for economic and strategic reasons. * The war lasted for two years and resulted in the deaths of about 80,000 to 100,000 Libyans and 5,000 Italians. * The Italians used brutal methods to suppress the Libyan resistance, including aerial bombardment, concentration camps, and public executions. * The war left a legacy of bitterness and resentment that continues to this day. Here are some key points: * The Italian invasion of Libya was a major turning point in Italian history. * The war marked the beginning of Italy's colonial rule in Libya, which lasted until 1943. * The war also left a legacy of bitterness and resentment that continues to this day. We will take revenge from you Italy one day. Keep It in mind. You treated very dirt way immigrants and some weeks ago more than 700 people were killed in a way of Italy. Your country don't help them

Hi! Fun fact: in our anthem we mention Poland and in the Polish one Italy is mentioned, too!
This anthem has it all: Cherished historial events. A future of glorious potential. "Together we can rise to any occasion and best all who oppose us" sentiment. Catchy tune which encompasses & marries, in broad tempo variation, both sedate pageantry & passion-stirring gusto. The repeated "cohort" section rising each time from conspitatorial sotto voce to ardent declarative roar ....
Oh, to be Italian and know this plays for you .... Best ever!
Thanks for your input in both posts. Allow me to suggest this video wherein is divulged Goffredo Mameli's life.ruclips.net/video/YFWEpB9Uav0/видео.html '' GOFFREDO MAMELI e Il Canto degli Italiani'' - ''La vita breve ed avventurosa del giovanissimo autore del nostro Inno Nazionale.''

Viva l'amicizia tra italiani e francesi! 🇫🇷🇮🇹
I'm French and our president signed a treaty with Italy some months ago, the Quirinal Treaty. It is a Franco-Italian equivalent of the Élysée Treaty, which is considered to be at the foundation of the Franco-German friendship.This type of treaty was indeed ONLY signed for the Franco-German relationship, and it's only the second treaty of this type ("Treaty for a Strengthened Bilateral Cooperation") to be signed by France, this time for the Franco-Italian friendship!
It's a huge sign from both France and Italy to show how close we are to each others :)
Viva l'italia! 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
the translation from Italian to English changes, because the words have another meaning, if you are not Italian you cannot understand

I think the Italian anthem is one of the few on earth that are not just satisfied with speaking highly of the country for what it's supposed or dreamt to be, rather has no trouble recognizing and mentioning its history for what it actually is.
Nel 1957 e 1958, all'età di 8 e 9 anni, ospite di una colonia marina, lo dovetti imparare a memoria; lo si cantava al mattino, dopo l'alzabandiera.
I am Italian and I had no idea there were additional verses to the anthem! They only taught us the first part (plus chorus), very interesting, thanks for sharing!
that's funny you say that..I was thinking it seemed longer ...Bravo

Those kids going on the field with Italy`s players are the luckiest people ever. Imagine having this anthem screamed into your ears by Buffon and Chiellini. Best anthem ever.

Italian National Anthem explained
The Italian National Anthem "Inno di Mameli" or "Mameli's hymn" is also known as "Canto degli Italiani" or "Song of the Italians".
Brothers of Italy,
Italy has awakened;
Scipio's helmet
she has put on her head.
Where is the Victory? (ref. 1)
Offer her the hair; (ref. 2)
because slave of Rome
God created her.
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called. Yes!
We have been for centuries
stamped on, and laughed at,
because we are not one people,
because we are divided.
Let's unite under
one flag, one dream;
To melt together
Already the time has come.
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called. Yes!
Let's unite, let's love;
The union and the love
Reveal to the people
God's ways.
We swear to liberate
the native soil:
United, for God,
Who can beat us?
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called. Yes!
From the Alps to Sicily,
Everywhere is Legnano; (ref 3)
Every man of Ferruccio (ref 4)
has the heart and the hand;
the children of Italy
are called Balilla; (ref 5)
The sound of every church bell
calling for evening prayers.
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called. Yes!
They are branches that bend
the sold swords; (ref. 6)
Already the eagle of Austria
has lost its feathers.
the blood of Italy
and the Polish blood (ref. 7)
Drank with Cossacks
But its heart was burnt.
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called. Yes!
The following references are made to the Italian National Anthem:
Ref 1: "Victory" was the name of the Goddess of victory.
Reference to the word "coorte" = cohort (a part of an ancient roman legion, it was composed of between 300 and 600 men) so... stringiamoci a coorte = "let hold us in cohort style" / Let us unite

Sure, here is the information about the Italian invasion of Libya in short:
* Italy invaded Libya in 1911 for economic and strategic reasons.
Here are some key points:
* The Italian invasion of Libya was a major turning point in Italian history.
