Mine did this when we went to Disney World in 2015. We left for a week and he was shaking like he was having a seizure when we got home because he was so happy. According to our neighbours, he’d walk around the house crying, and just slept in my bed because he thought we disappeared. We haven’t left for that long since then 🙁
Sweetest darling. Animals have such compassion. I truly believe cats only become aloof when we raise/treat them according to the standard they they are cold and distant "by nature."
I rarely go on holiday but one time, my neighbour kindly popped in to feed and pet my cat for a week. The hardest bit for me was when I returned was hearing that my girl would sprint to the door when my neighbour came in, cry then slip away behind the sofa. Watching this honey brought back those guilty feelings. Cats do miss us....

@@ruxz-ujdkr yes, we have all the paperwork and vaccines for the pet, we look for pet friendly places. We have our own litter box for the cat. It learned to adapt to the traveling. Mostly we travel by car, therefore is quite easy. Obviously if we will fly long distance then we will also look for a caretaker, but for normal travel there is no issue, it's like traveling with any other pet. She sleeps most of the time in the car or watching out the window.

My cat would not like my absence and upon my return, would act pleased to see me at first...then later, with no warning, would pounce on my foot and bite me! She'd then walk off as if happy to have gotten her revenge.

Your cat is letting you know what your absence meant to him. Evidently he feels unheard. Cats communicate. You don’t know how to express love and compassion that would make him feel loved. Everyone and every creature response to love and compassion in their own way. You’ve not had that in your life so you’ve transfered those personal needs on to a helpless creature. Work on your relationship with your cat so you can give what you really need to be able to love unconditionally. Don’t miss the opportunity.

This is how kitties experience depression or sadness. Cats do have deep instinctual perceptions Most are introverts. Dogs are mostly extroverts. Dogs don’t have same sensibilities as cats. Both are special and beautiful creatures. A privilege to be on their lives.
I'm a pet sitter but I take care of the whole house usually. I've had a few pets like this. Though there is one cat that took ages to gain their trust. At first I didn't think there was a cat in the house but after the third trip I got to see them. The poor thing really missed their mom and dad. So scared all the time but she is really beautiful. Poor thing had a complete stranger take care of them for days at a time.
Fortunately I don't like vacations I have 5 cats. I really enjoy stay at home with them and my parents, I would never leave my babies alone even just one day. I miss them already, They are sleeping right now.
Same. I have 12 cats and my family can't go to vacation with all family members. At least one or two get to stay behind to take care of the cats since the cats hotels are very expensive and it stressed them out
My cat never showed her face for the 5 weeks I was in hospital and rehab. She ate, used the litter box but would not come out until my first night home. As soon as family left she came running to the bed and couldn't stop purring, rubbing her head all over me. She stayed by my side for the first 3 days.❤

My cat Nicki (waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge now) would give me two earfulls upon my return from vacay for about 20 minutes. After that she would disappear and give me the silent treatment for about two hours. I couldn't get her to come out with food, water or treats. Nope, it was always around two hours until she figured my lesson was learned and then all was forgiven. I love all the rest of your stories as well.

I always take him with me, I still don't understand how people can leave them alone in the house. Mine on his first vacation was terrified that we would leave and abandon him, he would go to the kennel that was next to the suitcases and from there he meowed at us, when he saw that we were going to take him he was very happy and the truth was he behaved very good on the plane! Edit: Taking a small pet nowadays on a plane (in the cabin) is quite simple, they charge you extra, it really isn't much compared to leaving it alone to suffer at home. You just have to do the paperwork required by the country and the airline where you will travel. In my case, they were only vaccination certificates and a certificate of good health. I also recommend talking to the vet about giving them a calming medicine for the cat.
I created the best job and life for myself. I petsit for clients, moving into their home ( after several meet and greets). I know their routine, give extra walks and approved treats, and my sole purpose is to be completely available, right on the floor, with their furbabies. They feel my heart towards them, I tell them how much mom loves and misses them, and send videos randomly throughout the day. I'm a loving bookmark in their lives, til mom and dad get home. Can you imagine a sweeter vocation? Blessed
People sometimes don't realize the level of separation anxiety that their fur children suffer thru when they go on vacation. Yes its responsible to get a friend to drop in and feed them, but sometimes it would be nice to get a "companion" to spend some quality time just sitting with them and giving tummy rubs, back scratches, taking them out side for walks...etc.! Feeding them is important but friendship is important too. We always try and get a "friend" that has come over before and if we are going to be gone a while we sometimes try and get someone to stay with them in the home. The have people that are licensed and bonded or that are insured to watch your family member. Take the extra time to plan a good care program for your pets....Please... Take Care and Stay Safe...!
This Is why I made my cat passport and never go without her. She make my life so mutch more less anxious and better, I would do anything for her. When i walk, swim, take a bycicle or car she alwaya goes places with me ❤
Oh sure make me feel terrible! But for real, this is why I am getting my girl Goblin fully vaccinated and getting her a kitty passport so that she can come with me everywhere. She's too important to me; she pretty much saved my life; I was in a very dark place and was giving serious consideration towards suicide, when she literally ran and jumped into my arms from the street while I was talking to a RSPCA door to door person. This was about two years ago and my life has been so much happier since then. I know that she loves me, I have never had a cat as affectionate towards me as this one (despite being around them all my life), she'll come to me when I am feeling low, she gives me gentle little love bites on the tip of my nose whilst giving me the super slow blinks. I love almost more than anything else in my life (she only just loses out to my Mum) and I don't know how I will be able to cope when her time comes. And great, now I am crying, in public, and I am a 35 year old man...

It’s suggested to leave an article of clothing or towel you’ve already used where they sleep so that they’re comforted by your scent until you’re home again. When I’m going to leave for extending periods of time, I take all my pets with me.❤️
The First and only time we left our cat alone was last June, for 5 days, my sister would come 2 times a day to feed him and let him in/out of the house. But when we came back is was clearly angry at us 😂
I was away from my cat for over a year and i wondered if he would remember me. I called his name and within seconds he came running to me and i have been home for several months now and he has not left my side 💖
Poor guy. I was fortunate to have cats that didn't mind staying at "cat hotels" at my vets, but they were very gregarious guys who always liked strangers. In fact many times they didn't seem to want to leave!
My cat goes to my mom when I am on vacation. She has diabetes so she needs insuline twice a day. Even before the diagnosis (just last year) I always brought her to my mom. She kinda grew up there and she can get outside. I live in an apartment with a balcony, she often goes outside but it's different when you have total freedom. But she is always in hearing distant, if I call her or lure her wirh food or treats she will be running home 😅 She is the sweetest tortoise 🥰
OMGGG that meow sounded just like this cat i tamed named chicken, yes its the cat in my pfp. took me maybe 6-8 months to tame him, now he comes into the house almost every day and I feed him along with other cats.
