To all the people that aren’t seeing the bigger picture: Cole is portraying his perspective of the world’s addiction and all the different types. Whether it’s money, drugs, woman, gambling, buying things or obsession. The video also shows how people blindly follow the wrong path and are under a “spell” basically and will do anything to get what they want, even sell their souls perhaps (hence the godly figure in the video). All this to show that the root of all evil is greed and the need for more. The one thing this video lacks was love which is the deeper message, a lack of love will lead to these things.
There was no way I was gonna watch this video and not leave a comment. J Cole gives what RAP truly means: Rhythm And Poetry. That's why he will always be my favourite artiste.
This video by Cole is a work of art and it has so many messages about the pursuit of money and greed in American culture. We’ll pay an arm and a leg for a car that depreciates and is worth much less right after we buy it.
LoganFamNetwork . Couldn’t have said it any better Bruh I was thinking the same thing this guy can say the most meaningful shit ever and somehow explain it through his bars so deeply and well. Only J Cole can do that
I feel like it's more saying people sacrifice part of themselves for material objects and don't care that part of them is missing rather than the actual amount itself. If ya'll watch full metal alchemist it could be somewhat referencing to that as well, to gain something first you must sacrafice something.
The message of this video is so powerful, we all have the pursuit if money we will do anything at all cost to get. But once we start to chase it the pursuit of money gets us killed. Basically what he is saying money is the root of all evil but is a necessity at the same time.
Money isn’t the root of evil, money is just green pieces of paper. Greed is the root of evil, if you chase money for the wrong reasons you will become corrupted
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. Your all wrong but close.
I feel like if he were to write a script on all of his albums and make them into movies he would be able to have at least three of em at this point, and I would watch all of them at least once a day
Kia Amire.. I think this shits straight... "GARBAGE"!!! I mean, C'mon J.. It cost him an arm and a leg, literally, to get another possession. There are many artists and then there is J Cole, who actually teaches us something.
And then the gas in the car went out, the thrill was gone and he was left with the realisation that he had sacrificed so much and gained nothing, just momentarily comfort.

Chantelle Peters I wish I could love this comment!! This is exactly what I was telling my mom and my sister when it first came out! If you don’t pay attention to the lyrics you could almost mistake it for what’s popular now.. but it’s truly deep and has many meaning to it.

Cole is on another level 🔥🔥🔥. J. Cole goes in soo hard on this right here! Only reason he is getting more hits is cuz he is just watching that short on my channel explaining how all these rappers out here be blowing up so big
BLVNK FVCE yea my username is like 4 years old who cares , i was 14 , and my liking Rae sremmurd 4 years ago doesn’t mean i don’t know music ... he’s overrated as i said
BLVNK FVCE if we take j Coles music and let lil uzi vert rap the same lyrics the world will say “oh it’s trash” simply out of fear of looking stupid , if he didn’t have the reputation he does half his fans would understand that he is pretty basic and there’s nothing special about the music he makes
So J Cole character is King overdose and in the first scene you see him on a throne having a hooked note floating in front of the kids leading them to believe a lifestyle that he lives. Influencing the younger generation like these so called mumble rappers. The next scene King overdose is just showing off. Counting his money to resemble that is the only thing that matters. The scene with the straight jacket and the four walls of money depicts how all this money has him blocked from seeing what’s really going on in the world. Which is why he is rapping about money. The scene were he reaches for money and gets cut resembles how companies and corporates will hold onto your money. Kids break into his home and steal everything he has are those same kids he influenced. Suggesting your own will follow in the message you share. He escapes with one money bag and tries buy a car but is too broke so he offers his arm and a leg referring to the saying of it cost an arm and a leg. This message Cole wanted to show how desperate rappers will become in the future. King overdose buys the car but is to broke for gas and eventually crashes chasing the money. Cole wanted us to see how this will be the state of most rappers due to their lifestyle and drugs.
Spot on, except King OverDose is a different character from the modern day rapper Cole is also portraying, just like the car dealer is a different character Cole portrays.
The humblest artist ever J. Cole goes in soo hard on this right here! Only reason he is getting more hits is cuz he is just watching that short on my channel explaining how all these rappers out here be blowing up so big
R.I.P. mumble rappers. Money isn’t everything. So many rich miserable souls. We don’t need society’s “ways”/“rules”, to validate our existence in this world. How was this world BEFORE currency became the main? Far much better, than where we are now.
Luis Solis wrong...before slavery and the lands were stolen, from the rightful owners? Everything was not controlled by money and greed. Understand that. Indians, Hispanics, Africans Etc. Traded goods and gold. It’s the United States fault as to why things are the way that they are now. This new society that WASNT here when my ancestors were conquered. Do research !
Classik Got Bars money is just a tool to trade easily. And I don't think the society is that bad right now. Before the united states existed america was not an oasis of peace.
J. Cole is a genius his music has deep meanings, and till this day i look at his music clip and still see alot of hidden meanings in the scenes very influential
My theory is - J Cole is not on the cover off his “KOD”.. it’s Edward. (If you listen to “Intro” closely Cole says, “I’m trapped inside myself.... in which I love my demons rest I’m calling out for help” J Cole goes through the journey of a drug addict and while also giving advice and commentary on it throughout the album.) Edward is the demon J Cole is trying to “kiLL”, the same one featured on the album. Edward is the “King of Drugs” (another play on KOD), he’s the one responsible for getting these “kids on drugs.” Basically, he gets them on drugs and slowly but surely kills them.. Look at the cover, they’re all looking up towards Edward.. at first they’re doing the basics weed, lean, coke (only slightly under his cape) but the more they do, the less satisfied they get, and the more they crave, pushing them deeper into his cape and giving Edward more power over their soul, until he finally takes their soul and they overdose (the 2nd meaning of KOD is “Kings Overdosed”) because at the top they’re skeletons.. but the demon doesn’t just get kids addicted to drugs, Cole hits on fake friends (The Cut Off), lust (The Photograph), the love of money/greed (ATM), and adultery (Kevin’s Heart: I really think this has to do with when Kevin Hart cheated on his pregnant wife👀) so “Kill Our Demons” could refer to anything or any hold any demons has over our lives that keeps us from fully making Jesus Lord of our life... but hey just a theory For this video.. if you look at this in perspective with my theory.. when the “Kids on Drugs” get high Edward takes control of them (look at their faces and who’s pulling them) meanwhile Cole is locked up in the cages of his own mind “I’m trapped inside myself.... in which I love my demons rest I’m calling out for help” ....... you’re welcome
Bro I cannot stop listening to this song lmao. It's so good. I've been a fan of Cole for some time now but I'm just now starting to listen to older songs.
Don't get too caught up in materialism and temporal pleasures. Life is about more than just that, and you might lose valuable things if you don't keep the balance. Thats what he's trying to tell you
The fact that Cole has always been naturally funny makes this refreshing to see him experiment with his new choice of sound mixed with the retro video style. While portraying the same message.🔥

He is so overrated
BLVNK FVCE yea my username is like 4 years old who cares , i was 14 , and my liking Rae sremmurd 4 years ago doesn’t mean i don’t know music ... he’s overrated as i said
BLVNK FVCE if we take j Coles music and let lil uzi vert rap the same lyrics the world will say “oh it’s trash” simply out of fear of looking stupid , if he didn’t have the reputation he does half his fans would understand that he is pretty basic and there’s nothing special about the music he makes
when the dollar landed on his face at the end, I almost lost it 😂
then it hit me, literally 'cant take it when you die but you cant live without it 💥💥
Literally 😂
youtube doin cole wrong not putting him on trending
He’s #1 on trending ...

My mom always said- you make the money. Don’t let the money make you..
Tariece Stewart exactly
So reminiscent of early Outkast & Busta Rhymes visuals. Track sounds amazing, and I love the “cost an arm and a leg” analogy
Artsy Blazer So true man!! literally reminded me stankonia!! 🔥🐐
Siri my eyes this was the best music video when it came out in a long time. Reminds me of this guy to see on TV when I was a kid classic shit.

But money, you'll never have enough of it. Why chase after every big dollar, giving up pieces of who you are in the process?

Rainy nights facts
Dope but well not just rappers anyone else who got a lot of money 😂
Shit.
Spot on, except King OverDose is a different character from the modern day rapper Cole is also portraying, just like the car dealer is a different character Cole portrays.
Damn I think you nailed it
It was a dollar not note.
It’s crazy how people are quick to call this man trash because he actually has a message behind his music. Gtfoh
IKR! They just dont understand!!!
M I T C H E L L P H I L stop trolling
gbaby5o thats not why its just cause he’s actually trash LMFAOOOOOO
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

The humblest artist ever
J. Cole goes in soo hard on this right here! Only reason he is getting more hits is cuz he is just watching that short on my channel explaining how all these rappers out here be blowing up so big
Most rappers flaunt their money......
JCole makes a song about how it destroys you.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Choco DOLLA he's not the only one lmao
Elijah Stiles he’s the only with his level of popularity I believe
He’s not the only one but he’s the best at it
Elijah Stiles MOST rappers, read carefully
Doesn’t Kendrick do it also??
R.I.P. mumble rappers.
Money isn’t everything.
So many rich miserable souls.
We don’t need society’s “ways”/“rules”, to validate our existence in this world. How was this world BEFORE currency became the main? Far much better, than where we are now.
Currency has always been the main, you do know that right, it's been around for the longest
It's not bad to have money or want money, it's bad to he greedy that's the message of the song
You sure about that though?
We all love to believe in a utopian society; but the reality is we were probably killing each other over scraps and kills.
Classik Got Bars money is just a tool to trade easily. And I don't think the society is that bad right now. Before the united states existed america was not an oasis of peace.
There's a deeper message. Shows the world has constructed the youth such that we think money is everything. When it's really nothing.
TOBIO they are literally "on" drugs chasing money
stfu plz
Also saying that we work our selves dead, how you gone spend a dime if you work yourself dead
Alot of shit you need can only be acquired by having money so i wouldnt call it nothing
tell em
J. Cole is a genius his music has deep meanings, and till this day i look at his music clip and still see alot of hidden meanings in the scenes very influential
Not that deep bruh.
And then Grippy dropped.
Now This Is "ART" - I like the way he explained how chasing just money is not all that matters in life ❤ & respect...
J. Cole
ATM - About The Money
EZEN JET - GAMER™ of course he would say chasing money isn’t important he already has all of it
Jesse Turner ahhh 😂
2010 Ugly God lol right
He even explained how money can kill you
My theory is -
J Cole is not on the cover off his “KOD”.. it’s Edward. Look at the cover, they’re all looking up towards Edward.. at first they’re doing the basics weed, lean, coke (only slightly under his cape) but the more they do, the less satisfied they get, and the more they crave, pushing them deeper into his cape and giving Edward more power over their soul, until he finally takes their soul and they overdose (the 2nd meaning of KOD is “Kings Overdosed”) because at the top they’re skeletons.. but the demon doesn’t just get kids addicted to drugs, Cole hits on fake friends (The Cut Off), lust (The Photograph), the love of money/greed (ATM), and adultery (Kevin’s Heart: I really think this has to do with when Kevin Hart cheated on his pregnant wife👀) so “Kill Our Demons” could refer to anything or any hold any demons has over our lives that keeps us from fully making Jesus Lord of our life... but hey just a theory
For this video.. if you look at this in perspective with my theory.. when the “Kids on Drugs” get high Edward takes control of them (look at their faces and who’s pulling them) meanwhile Cole is locked up in the cages of his own mind “I’m trapped inside myself.... in which I love my demons rest I’m calling out for help” .......
you’re welcome

The fact that Cole has always been naturally funny makes this refreshing to see him experiment with his new choice of sound mixed with the retro video style.

**CHOOSE WISELY.**
I see a strong Busta Rhymes and Ludacris influence with the socially conscious satire in the imagery. Awesome video.
What busta song is like this ?
Yesss..my thoughts exactly!!
1 imparticular by busta.."dangerous"
And luda-"stand up"
Word some elements reminded me of Gimme Some More by Busta, Get Back by Luda, & Morris Brown by Outkast.
Busta many timez splatters his face on the camera on diff angles and does head movements similar to the onez here
