It seems to me, that this video is a metaphor for where Cole is in his life. He sees himself as a slave, but one who has more comforts than most. He doesn't receive the respect of his people for this, because they believe he sold out at their expense (that he is a puppet of the white man). Though what he comes to reveal later on, was that it is his elevated position that he will leverage as a means of freeing his people. He is sacrificing luxury, and everything he is in order to see his own free. I believe he uses music as his vessel to do this, and perhaps this gives us more insight as to why Cole is driven beyond belief. Why his music constantly reaches out to illuminate the dark path, kept hidden by the distractions of our world.
@@ritikmota9276 one of my absolute favorites actually. There's a cool remix of it out there too. I am just a huge J Cole fan - as an Artist (Actor) I hope to bring the same level of intention and honesty to my work. Cole is one of my heroes.
Love the way he touched upon privilege between black communities. Cole is black, but treated better due to money, status as celeb, light skin, etc. But all black people come together in the end despite social standing because under the racist ruling, are all still oppressed. The white girl helping them represents allyship. We must ALL come together to stop these injustices.
Look, I 100% detest ANY forms of racism, and I would stand beside anyone to fight against it. I am curious what "racist ruling" you are referring to though?
@@Chima207 If the racism is so subtle, then how is it a "racist ruling?" I cant think of one law or regulation that is perpetuating racism. There are certainly, socially racist interactions in many communities. But those are between many different ethnic groups of people. Meaning, racism exists socially between so many racial groups, that it would be dishonest to single out Black people as the most oppressed. Im down to shun people for any racially motivated aggression. But our laws are pretty fair and racism is generally hated and fought. I think there will always be some racists. Thats terrible, but I find it a bit dishonest to be telling people that slavery hundreds of years ago is responsible for the overall success of American society, and therefore, has left this powerful unseen racial hatred. You called it subtle, I imagine you actually believe it to be more severe. I just think most Americans would shut a racist down immediately if they had an interaction with one. Out of curiousity, can give any examples of the "subtle" racism and explain how they are hurting people?
@@Chima207 Nothing? I mean you would really smear an entire country without any examples. That is shocking to me. Also, if you live in America... then youre already very privileged. Seriously.
@@victoriabrown5022 oh i was not aware! that doesn't negate my point tho, and doesn't take away from his blackness either. but thanks for letting me know!
Why should society tell them what to do with their platform? They shouldn't be forced to essentially sponsor movements just because they are famous and happen to be black. That's BS.
If you guys didn't notice J cole Sold out Madison square garden. If you thing he is not making waves its because you're apart of the world that isn't paying attention .
But a Madison square garden full of people is just a small fraction of the worlds population and it is only recognised as a big achievement to those who even know what Madison square garden is which is just Americans. And when you think of they amount of Americans who heard the news he sold out there then that's less than 1% of the worlds population so it doesn't affect more 99% of the world so it's nothing special
Its like, when you first hear this album, that's all you're doing: Hearing it. Its like "Okay yeah, my nigga back." But if you actually LISTEN to this joint more and more, you start hearing stuff. For example January 28th "Can I make a million dollars off a rap tune?"// A Tale of 2 Citiez "What's the value of a thing?" "Last night, WE pulled up on a nigga at the light like..."//G.O.M.D "Lord will you tell me if I change? I wanna go back to Jermaine." "My nigga done went Hollywood." Lyrics like that, that are kind of hidden, give off a message that turns the entire track upside down for you. Its like every time I hear a song on this record, I learn something new. This man right here? A mastermind. I cant stress enough how even though people claim they love Jermaine, he's STILL the most slept on. And I'm not talking about celebrity status or anything, I'm talking about his material, his flow, his persona. It sickens me when people say their favorite song is "Wet Dreamz" or "Power Trip". Like get the fuck out. No doubt these are great songs, but people so caught up in mainstream hits, that their mind is too clouded to actually take the time out to LISTEN to the words. Society is so fucked up to the point where having puppies in their video is lame, but having 50 naked females, drugs, and booze in the background is dope. Fuck outta here.
+Mizzy I get what you're saying but even those mainstream hits of his are crazy clever. Just look at the music video to Wet Dreamz lol... Don't fall into the very trap you're so eager to preach against. Regardless, there's definitely something on this album for everyone.
I'm honestly not saying these tracks aren't greats. I'd be a hater if I did. But you and I both know that there's many close minded people that don't respect the music and/or lyrics. They just like it because they play it in the club a lot -_- it's frustrating
AbstractRule America was built by slaves, which were mainly black. By built I mean EVERYTHING, White House, New York, Chicago, Boston, houses, they were the main laborers of every industry. Yet they still had time to build a culture found no where else.
DauntingDays Uhm........................are you stupid? Every big city and shit was built by construction workers and shit, who were mostly white. I'm not even doing to go more in depth because of how dumb you sound.

They tryna say I can't come back

Man fuck them nigga I come back
Ay let me tell you 'bout it
I wanna tell you 'bout it
Hands up, everybody run
Cole outside and he say he got a gun
Niggas like "man that's what everybody say"
Go and pop the trunk and everybody dead
Everybody scared of the nigga
Aware that the nigga is better
All my bitches the pick of the litter
Never bitter

Me I never hate, get cake like Anna Mae, woah
Eat the cake bitch, eat the damn cake
Fuck good nigga we demand great

Nigga you know how it goes, make the pizza man wait
The best kept secret
Even hoes try and keep it and I leak the damn tape
Rest in peace any nigga want beef
Even secret service couldn't keep the man safe
I said to the window, to the wall
My nigga ride when I call
Got bitches all in my mind
Fuck nigga blocking my shine
I know the reason you feel the way
I know just who you wan' be
So everyday I thank the man upstairs
That I ain't you and you ain't me

They gettin' temporary dough and I don't tell nobody
Lord will you tell me if I changed, I won't tell nobody
I wanna go back to Jermaine, and I won't tell nobody
This is the part that the thugs skip
Young nigga never had love
You know, foot massage, back rub shit
Blowing bubbles in the bathtub shit
That is until I met you
Together we done watch years go by
Seen a river of your tears go by
Got me thinkin' bout some kids, still I
Tell them hoes come through
(The break up)
Get to know somebody and you learn a lot about 'em
When we long for you, start to doubt 'em
Tell yourself you better off without 'em
Then in time you will find can't walk without 'em
Can't talk without 'em, can't breath without 'em
Came here together, you can't leave without 'em
So you walk back in, make a scene about 'em
On your Amerie it's just 1 thing about 'em

Don't nobody sing about it no more

He is sacrificing luxury, and everything he is in order to see his own free. I believe he uses music as his vessel to do this, and perhaps this gives us more insight as to why Cole is driven beyond belief. Why his music constantly reaches out to illuminate the dark path, kept hidden by the distractions of our world.
shut up
@@TyMcLeod don’t listen to him, you spoke fax’s
yeah, you should also give a listen to his other song snow on tha bluff, which also talks about this!
@@ritikmota9276 one of my absolute favorites actually. There's a cool remix of it out there too. I am just a huge J Cole fan - as an Artist (Actor) I hope to bring the same level of intention and honesty to my work.

Seriously.
Cole is mixed-😭his mom is white

If you guys didn't notice J cole Sold out Madison square garden. If you thing he is not making waves its because you're apart of the world that isn't paying attention .
But a Madison square garden full of people is just a small fraction of the worlds population and it is only recognised as a big achievement to those who even know what Madison square garden is which is just Americans. And when you think of they amount of Americans who heard the news he sold out there then that's less than 1% of the worlds population so it doesn't affect more 99% of the world so it's nothing special

Never gets old
Its like, when you first hear this album, that's all you're doing: Hearing it. Fuck outta here.
so Fucking true.
preach 🙏
The trutthhhhhhhhh
+Mizzy I get what you're saying but even those mainstream hits of his are crazy clever. Just look at the music video to Wet Dreamz lol... Don't fall into the very trap you're so eager to preach against. Regardless, there's definitely something on this album for everyone.
I'm honestly not saying these tracks aren't greats. I'd be a hater if I did. But you and I both know that there's many close minded people that don't respect the music and/or lyrics. They just like it because they play it in the club a lot -_- it's frustrating
J.Cole low key a great actor

Black people built America
Literally and culturally
DauntingDays uhm......you realize how stupid you sound right?
AbstractRule America was built by slaves, which were mainly black. By built I mean EVERYTHING, White House, New York, Chicago, Boston, houses, they were the main laborers of every industry. Yet they still had time to build a culture found no where else.
DauntingDays Uhm........................are you stupid? Every big city and shit was built by construction workers and shit, who were mostly white. I'm not even doing to go more in depth because of how dumb you sound.
AbstractRule You're obviously eleven, or a bad troll, so I find no use arguing with you
DauntingDays So in the 1900s when big cities were being built, slaves were building these skyscrapers? Because that's what you said. and lmao at the culture part.
the mood change from hope to celebration gives me goosebumps each time.
