      @edwardsabean-untermann7225 2 года назад +20

      Agreed! "Lone Wolf" tactics really make sense for submarines - or more topically, cloaked ships - where you can avoid engagements that don't favour you without having to leave the entire AO.
      For Federation ships that aren't the Defiant, leaving your ships isolated like that seems like a massive liability...

      @@edwardsabean-untermann7225 It made sense back in the day when the ships could get to a friendly port in short order. Or have other ships reassigned to support others but when support is to far away it makes sense to send ships out in wings… even if those ships split off, working together as a wing allows the Captains to organise their assets so they know where each is, and how close to one another they are.

      @@davfree9732 this is true, I was using submarines as an example since it's modern-day relevant. If there was a design element of the _Intrepid_ class that always bugged me it was the undersized warp nacelles that looked like they were just upscaled shuttle parts. The _Pathfinder_ nicely updates the design, although I'm not entirely sold on the pylons they're connected to.
    All in all a very good update for the new 'modern' standard in STO.

    • @jaturnley
      @jaturnley 2 года назад +7

      It always bugged me that the nacelles on the Pathfinder have a clear path between then when in normal mode and move to a position where the ship obstructs the path between them when going to warp - it goes against the Roddenberry design rules for no reason other than it looks prettier. I usually just kitbash the Intrepid struts in; it looks just as good and makes more sense.

    • @Vespuchian
      @Vespuchian 2 года назад

      @@jaturnley I've known some real trekkies who've pondered that one. The concensus they reached (which has about as much 'official' status as the next guy you talk to on the bus, so take with some healthy salt) is that it's more important for Federation warp nacelles to 'see' each other than for the Bussard Scoops to have a direct path forward. Something, something, warp fields follow laminar flow which is why faster ships are built sleeker, mumble, mumble, etc.
      Of course, all of that seems to have become optional/ignorable over the years so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

    i was wondering, if they decide to change the hullconfiguration to add more hardpoints (love that word btw,you are the only chanel i found who uses it so far), wouldn't it make sense to make enough space to install secondary energysources, only for the weapons? like a smaller matter/antimatter reactor, the warpcore of a runabout (or 2 side by side)? this way, the weapon would not need the cental warpcore, or could even work when the internal EPS-system is damaged. also,given the feact that DS9 could withstand a large klingon fleet for quite a while only powered by 4 Fusionractors, should there smaller/compact fusionractor through out the ship,and nearby the main weaponsmountpoints? or has this already been done, just not mentioned loudly enough? (i have those thougts in a lot of episodes throughout the franchise,when they got energyflow-issues. other SciFi franchises i follow build their ships that way,at least the combat-variants) Oh,btw,really like the design,the intrepid-frame was allways my favorit.

    I hope they do the Odyssey class and some non-Federation ship classes. One of the recon destroyers would be my pick.

    The concept of exploring unknown deepspace in a race against other territory claimants could make a great series.

    It's also fitted with a type II shuttle replicator, this is an improved version of the shuttle replicator fitted to the USS Voyager and can replicate runabout type vessels

    My Starfleet science main, mains the Legendary Intrepid with the Pathfinder skin. I found this quite satisfying. Since this was done with Cryptic, am I to understand that the Federation Starfleet and the Terran Starfleet *agreed* on a design for a tactical Pathfinder in the Trailblazer? Interesting.

    When I saw/heard your announcement of this series, I was sceptical that I'd be all that interested. Not least because the idea of playing STO has always depressed the hell out of me after seeing what Cryptic turned Champions Online into.
    But this was great, and scratched an itch for more Trek lore that I wasn't even aware I had. Turns out I'm more of a Trekkie than I realised, and I'm perfectly happy with that. ;)
    Looking forward to seeing the rest in this series match the very high bar set by the first episode!

      Something to consider: the formula that got imposed on Champion's Online didn't work for it, but it works really brilliantly for STO. Unfortunately, since they though that because the two game engines were the same they could also apply the same financial decisions, which is not the case at all.

    I personally think that there should have been an event arc where Voyager found a abandoned shipyard that could refit, repair and redesign Voyager. And then had the crew redesign voyager along the lines of the pathfinder class and thus intergrate the advanced tech the crew has found on there journey so far including Borg tech and defensive systems.
