Ate there a few years back and really enjoyed it, great service. Tea bags for convenience, loose tea for flavour. Great review . Cheers Lee, looking forward to the next one.
Here in Australia we are led to believe that there’s recession and times are bad in Britain . If that’s the case , how can ordinary folk afford to pay those prices for basic tucker ? . Something just doesn’t add up here .
I live in Britain and can't get my head around it half the country's population telling you they are using food banks, under threat of eviction, then we have massive queues at air ports and ports getting away on foreign holidays .
That looked great! cooked in beef dripping just like my dad used to do! loose tea, at one time there were no tea bags all tea wasloose, without a doubt it was stronger and you coild choose how strong you made it|! Fantastic!
Hello Lee, thank you for having us in your vlog. I must admit your fish and chips looked amazing. I take back what i said 😂 It was so lovely meeting you and it was like bumping into a friend i haven't seen for ages. If ever you're in Nantwich let me know, it'll be lovely to see you again. I can only really recommend the Cheshire cat round here, its really nice. If you do head this way, go to dagfields. There's a great shop there called Nantwich collectables, it sells MY Pokémon artwork 😂 but it also sells anything collectable, its brilliant. I'm sure Ryan and Ash would buy you a brew if you went in 😂 It was lovely to see you and be in the video, it made our holiday amazing thank you ❤
Fabulous vlog Lee. You must have been there in or around the same time as another famous food RUclipsr the one who takes his table and chair everywhere with him. The only difference is he sat outside and brought fish & chips from the take out section. The fish & chips looked good and the quality of that fish looked excellent. That curry sauce I could tell was superb. Yes definitely a proper brew with that Yorkshire tea. Loose tea definitely better than bags, you can leave it to brew in a hot teapot. Lots of tourists there and certainly looked busy. 9.6 is a perfect rating for that. Loved to Bounty bar on your head at the start…”Wanted The MacMaster”!
Teabags are usually made from tea “dust,” small particles of low-quality tea that are inexpensive and easily available. In contrast, loose leaf tea is made from whole leaves of tea, which are of a much better quality and brew up a cup with a much more flavor.
I loved Whitby the first time my parents took me there in 1962. As George Harrison observed: "All things much pass, all things must pass away." Remember the special moments, because they are fleeting, as are we.
I’m really glad you listened! I was really worried you was getting takeout again! But you sat inside! That is the only way to eat Magpie Fish and Chips! And as promised! Much much better!
That looks insane - I mean, off the chart good! Look at the way the chef has drizzled layers of batter on top of the fish while its in the oil to create that crust. Amazing work. And the flaky, perfectly cooked fish itself. How does fish and chips get any better? Been many times to the Magpie and it always delivers.
The Magpie is a good chippy in a town full of good chip shops. Not worth standing outside in the rain in a queue for their offering when there is just as good on offer elsewhere. We as a family go to Terrys about 100m up the road from the Magpie and sit upstairs overlooking the harbour through the big picture windows.
The fish looked great but the price is unbelievable, that's 45 $ Canadian for one person I can have the same meal here for about 12 $ mind you it would be haddock it's impossible to find cod here ,but glad you enjoyed it Lee
Great vlog Lee,loved the bounty joke, the fish and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce looked very good my marks 9.50 I would have marked 10 but can't stand queueing many thanks Lee
I am from the state of Mississippi in the US. Tea is a big thing down there. My mum always used loose-leaf tea and it was always the best. I can tell if tea bags are used. The paper or whatever seems to take away from the flavor. Sadly we can no longer get loose tea but some shops have proper loose English tea. I stopped drinking tea when I realized it was causing inflammation in my joints.
Been to the Magpie a few times over the years and it has always been excellent. Fish is always fresh, thick with crispy batter, a small portion is ample for me and staff are great. Loose leaf tea tends to be better quality than that in tea bags and tea bags are often bleached (some bags are actually plastic) and many are sealed with plastic.
Totally agree with you Lee and at the end of the day they may be a big business but they’re a local business, it’s lovely to sit down to eat in there and yes loose leaf is definitely the best. If you fancy something a little different in Whitby go to Elizabeth Bothams and get a Lemon Bun, great local bakers shop.
"It's a bounty on my head" 😂 The fish looked excellent quality to be fair as did the chips although the peas didn't look particularly inviting. The price is a bit warm but you can see them on the menu outside before you go in so it's your call. I'd certainly give it a go based on your review
Brilliant vlog Lee was great to see this many happy memories of going there over the years with my parents . Got to ask you.... where is the best fish and chips you've experienced in the uk .?
Not been to Whitby for years But there was only one Chippy worth going to, for Me. And that was Silver Street. Local Chippie. "Scraps" and Gravy. Really hope they survived......Harbour stuff was a waste of time.
Lee, I know its all about the food review but to make social interaction and make people laugh in the street makes it a double bonus, keep up the good work and onwards my friend ❤👍👍👍
Good evening. Well Lee another Good plate full of Fresh Whitby Goodness. Beautiful portion of Cod, plenty of Chips. Gorgeous mushy peas and the most Delicious and Tasty Curry sauce ( That you are suppose to poor on top of your Fish and Chips, it is a Sauce ). I thought that the price was spot on. You always pay for Good Quality Fare. I would have ordered the same Lee. A very Good and Honest review. Glad you enjoyed your meal Lee. 😃😃😃
I've commented this before in your other videos and I'll comment it again now.... You're vastly becoming one of my favourite RUclipsrs and I look forward to your videos daily.. BTW.. How on earth do you manage to produce daily videos!!? Haha. Brilliant. Keep at it! Another great video, Lee.. 👍
Side note... I personally love your Lake District vid's, like I've mentioned.. And, I think, it would be fantastic if you done a few more revisits and updated Lakes vid's 👍👍👍
That looked awesome! I'm not sure why people that don't have kids go to places like this during the school holidays. I dislike large crowds, Its much nicer during school term times.
The Magpie will thrive on the 2 reviews this week😂 My advice, and you walked past them to get there, would be to try Abbey Fisheries next time you visit😊
The Magpie is the right name, picking all the shiny silver and gold coins out of the punters purses and wallets for fish and chips, that aside Mac that fish did look nice 👍 as regards the tea Yes loose tea leaves are way better than teabags with contain lots of dust and crap! I drink Natural Dandelion tea picked by myself for health benefits, as regards teabags there is only one tea to buy and that is Yorkshire tea! Nice one Mac 👍
Daylight robbery at nearly £25. Two adults and two children min £70 at a time where the cost of living is biting hard?. Not a place for lower earners to take the family. I'd say a tourist trap regardless to how well run it is.
Wow looked great when RMT went as well. Looks like they have quality and consistency. Absolutely delicious looking fish and chips in my opinion. Can’t wait to give it a go myself.
The look on that lady's face in the queue as you started talking 😂 Mustn't have liked being filmed as she disappeared from the next shot. I've been to Whitby many times but never made it to the Magpie, always too big a queue. Usually end up at Quayside to eat in and never had a problem with the food.
Nice perhaps, but a ridiculous price for what was offered. Magazine hotel in New Brighton does massive portions, inclusive of home made tartare sauce and mushy peas for £25 for two people. Amazing value and a magic meal in a lovely old world pub run by a family of dedicated staff. Do try it when you get the chance. Friday lunch time is the best imo.
I agree 100% great place great food great service & great atmosphere. Big mistake tried a takeaway from Trenchers & threw 1/2 of it in the bin. Back to Magpie’s from now on 😉
Love how that kid photo-bombed you in the restuarant. I take it he must have been at it once too ofrten as I love how the next shot you've got the menu placed (pun unintended) strategicaly 😂
I've always enjoyed going to the Magpie for a sit down chippy tea. A great alternative is Silver Street fisheries, so next time you are in Whitby get yourself there.
Hi Lee,I would agree with your score and that fish looked lush. My son & visited The Fisherman's Wife when in Whitby last Sept and really enjoyed it. I had large haddock which was huge and my son had their fish pie which he loved. We did try Papa's Fish and Chips when there too, but was quite disappointed.
First of all, I've got to say that the town of Whitby looks absolutely smashing. It looks like a place I'd like to spend some time in. It is really a pretty town. As to your dinner, after the long wait and all, it sounds like you really enjoyed your meal. I'd have to rate it at about 9.5.🤩😃😄
Damn you with your fish and chip vlogs Im always hungry thanks to you!! Loves you !!! Loose leaf tea bags tend to let the flavour through better. Childhood memories!!! lovely Vlog Lee x
Great video... Not for me to be honest, we had a less than average visit although it was winter and the restaurant was fairly quiet. The next night I was wandering around the town and chanced across the Fish Box, no fussy rubbish just a freshly cooked meal... Ive also eaten at Robertsons as well... If Im honest the BEST Fisn N Chips in the world (and Ive eaten them all over) would be in Red Bank Road, Bispham Kitchen...Try them if you dont believe me. Freshest Ive ever tasted... I would agree that Rays 2 in Benidorm is the best we have in this bit of Spain though.....
Hi Lee, nothing better than a proper pot of tea brewed in a proper tea pot, leaving it time to brew unlike a tea bag in a cup. The fish and chips looked great, however I can;t understand why the curry sauce was served in a great big gravy boat, a medium sized tub would've sufficed. The best fish & chips I ever had was at the Pump house pub at Albert dock in Liverpool, the cod was so big it was served on a chopping board because it didn't fit on a plate.
That looks really excellent, Lee. The price was exactly as it should be, if you want to pay a proper wage to the people who work there. I thought the cod was a very generous portion but I'm slightly disappointed that they don't have skinless haddock, especially in Yorkshire where haddock is our favourite. By the way loose leaf tea is far superior to the tea that you find in teabags, which are of lower quality. The leaves in full leaf tea are the main leaves from the tea bush chopped into smaller pieces, whereas those in teabags can be a little better than sweepings. Enough! I'm boring myself.
Hi Lee, enjoyed your review as usual. Very pricey though. Why not try the swan chippy in Southport. The set meal(cod chips peas bread n butter and a pot of tea)is only £11. Really good value and good quality.
"Everyday is like Sunday" Whitby is a lovely place,so many fish and chips shop in the seaside town,so would be hard to decide which would be the best 😁😃😄 great vlog yet again, keep safe and well always.
as long as thhere are customers willing to pay.... We are getting screwed EVERYWHERE. Just seen Tesco have reduced their clubcard points for fuel AND increased the price per litre at the same time... grim face :(
❤❤❤❤❤ WOW looks lovely yummmmmmy ok 10/10. Reminds me of a lot of spots in Cape Cod , Massachusetts where I grew up…will have to check it out thanks Lee.😊😊😊😊 Loose Leaf YES way better stronger😊
Watched you for years lee and I am pretty sure you have been to the magpie takeaway twice before once you ate them in your car and the other time you are then was opposite the takeaway. Anyway we have been to almost every fish and chip shop in whitby and totally agree with what you said about every one of them today you were totally honest fantastic review tonight we have been to the magpie at least 5 times and always had a tea bag but haven't been for a year. Pleased the bounty has been lifted 😂
Very unusual to see proper tea made in a pot with l bags w=if the loss leafose leaf, The only Tea I buy in bags is Yorkshire would like to try the loose leaf, Yes there is a difference in taste between the two, My usual tea comes both ways I only buy bags if the loose is out of stock, That Fish looked impressive, I had Fish N Chips today sit down in a new Cafe to me excellent meal cooked in beef tallow so I won't have an upset tummy tomorrow like I do with vegetable oils
I heard the fish is caught then brought directly to Magpie fish and chips cafe. I was very Luck as a teenager my Yorkshire grandma would make my grampa and I homemade fish and chips every Friday for supper 😊 in Ontario, Canada.
Went to The Magpie earlier this year, no queue as was rather late. Hate to admit it as a Grimsby boy but bloody hell it was good, the Yorkies can do a good fish & chips. Agree with you, Trenches was pretty average and expensive. Also honourable mention to Silver Street Fisheries which is a bit out the way (was staying in an Airbnb house close to it) and I had the feeling the people who owned it are cannibals (very odd horror-movie vibes, me and my dad were laughing the whole time especially when I asked for salt and vinegar and they starred at me for a good 10 seconds) but was delicious.
If the peas reminded you of your school meals then that must be a plus surely, for authenticity if nothing else. As a devout fan of Yorkshire tea I became a complete convert after tasting the Welsh brew tea. Available from Aldi. Sadly not all Aldi's sell it but, if you see it buy it. I highly recommend it. Use bottled water in the kettle to enjoy it at it's best. A truly delicious blend of tea. You didn't mention it in this video, but you have said many times that the fish and chips reminded you of your Mum and Dad. I suspect that what you are subconsciously being reminded of is the taste of beef dripping, which was the frying medium of those times. It's mostly palm oils that are used these days, and, in my opinion chips have become less flavoursome and more toxic as a result.
Great vlogg on fish n chips as usual here….taking on the famous Magpie Cafe…as that n Trenchers seem to be the most popular looking at the queues. No doubt plenty others to choose from as seen in the vdo. The fish looked huge n meaty n cud tell u liked the curry sauce the most. Think loose leaf tea will always give a stronger flavour than tea within a tea bag. Thought was a tad expensive compared to many others u have tried before. To me it looks very touristy. Score on the doors 8/10 🤔😉👍🏻
Ate there a few years back and really enjoyed it, great service.
Tea bags for convenience, loose tea for flavour. Great review . Cheers Lee, looking forward to the next one.

I've never eaten here. Last time I was there I got fish n chips on a takeaway near the pier and that was the best I've ever had
Loose leaf tea is in a different class to bags, love it !
My word, that cod looks extremely scrumptious ! I do simply love a hefty serving of flake and chips, too.
Ahh, British summer time in August, winter coats all round!

Best fish and chips we have ever had from The Magpie. We live in Somerset so hoping to go back again!
"Walk With Me" Tim did a review here 9 months ago. He liked it and Tim travels worldwide. 🙂
Should have teamed up with Simply Whitby!
10 out of 10 for a excellent consistent quality (by sight of course) even though they were rammed busy. I was drooling for bread & butter fish buttie!

Lee you are back to making videos everyday, please take it easy don't make yourself ill again

Looked wicked that did Lee, i noticed Woof on the fish menu, i guess that might be Dogfish? Lovely looking meal, cheers.

Anyway we have been to almost every fish and chip shop in whitby and totally agree with what you said about every one of them today you were totally honest fantastic review tonight we have been to the magpie at least 5 times and always had a tea bag but haven't been for a year. Pleased the bounty has been lifted 😂
Lol. 😂 Bounty has been lifted. 😂 👍🏼
Looked nice like chips with some flex and softness 👍👍👍 I'd go extra, chips and b& b too.
Nice to meet you in whitby, you need to come to steels in cleethorpes
Looked good to me. Good curry sauce is the icing on the cake for me. Good cuppa too.
The salmon cod and smoked haddock in a thermodore sauce is beautiful
Great as usual mate. Any plans to see the silver fox any time soon they’re always my favourite when you two are together 😂
Lee I think the drawback with a takeaway is the food sweats in the package softening the chips and batter. Thems is my thoughts 😮.
Very unusual to see proper tea made in a pot with l bags w=if the loss leafose leaf, The only Tea I buy in bags is Yorkshire would like to try the loose leaf, Yes there is a difference in taste between the two,
My usual tea comes both ways I only buy bags if the loose is out of stock, That Fish looked impressive, I had Fish N Chips today sit down in a new Cafe to me excellent meal cooked in beef
tallow so I won't have an upset tummy tomorrow like I do with vegetable oils
I heard the fish is caught then brought directly to Magpie fish and chips cafe. I was very Luck as a teenager my Yorkshire grandma would make my grampa and I homemade fish and chips every Friday for supper 😊 in Ontario, Canada.
how much... nice but not 18 quid
Terrific review, fish looked amazing 👍
Looked nice. I'm assuming the price included shares in the company. Imagine a family of 4 going to eat there
Great vlogg on fish n chips as usual here….taking on the famous Magpie Cafe…as that n Trenchers seem to be the most popular looking at the queues.
