Having a spicy mixed kebab with salad while I watch. Wow, that fish looks top notch! Cant beat the coastal cities when it comes to fish & chips
Ate there a few years back and really enjoyed it, great service.
Tea bags for convenience, loose tea for flavour. Great review . Cheers Lee, looking forward to the next one.
9.6 ? Whilst I enjoy your video's and those fish'n chips looked really nice. £24.60 inc tea ! Far far far too expensive ! Just imagine a family with 3 hungry kids. £24.60 x 5 ! Ouch. Your past video's used to be about best price and value, perhaps you have now lost touch with reality ?
Hello Lee, thank you for having us in your vlog. I must admit your fish and chips looked amazing. I take back what i said 😂
It was so lovely meeting you and it was like bumping into a friend i haven't seen for ages.
If ever you're in Nantwich let me know, it'll be lovely to see you again. I can only really recommend the Cheshire cat round here, its really nice. If you do head this way, go to dagfields. There's a great shop there called Nantwich collectables, it sells MY Pokémon artwork 😂 but it also sells anything collectable, its brilliant. I'm sure Ryan and Ash would buy you a brew if you went in 😂
It was lovely to see you and be in the video, it made our holiday amazing thank you ❤
When I go to the seaside with my kids and not forgetting the dog we always take a picnic always more enjoyable as takeaways nowadays is potluck
I loved Whitby the first time my parents took me there in 1962. As George Harrison observed: "All things much pass, all things must pass away." Remember the special moments, because they are fleeting, as are we.
That looked great! cooked in beef dripping just like my dad used to do! loose tea, at one time there were no tea bags all tea wasloose, without a doubt it was stronger and you coild choose how strong you made it|! Fantastic!
Lee you are back to making videos everyday, please take it easy don't make yourself ill again
Probably filmed it last week and had the weekend off.
Just what I was thinking 🤔
Not worked all weekend. 👍🏼I film and edit in week now. Weekend with family. Always. ❤️👍🏼👍🏼
@@TheMacMaster As long as your keeping well that's the main thing ! 👍🙂
@@TheMacMaster Glad to hear it great work thanks
Just watched Danny do the takeaway. Looked so much better Lee 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Little expensive in my opinion
That looked awesome! I'm not sure why people that don't have kids go to places like this during the school holidays. I dislike large crowds, Its much nicer during school term times.
Totally agree with you Lee and at the end of the day they may be a big business but they’re a local business, it’s lovely to sit down to eat in there and yes loose leaf is definitely the best.
If you fancy something a little different in Whitby go to Elizabeth Bothams and get a Lemon Bun, great local bakers shop.
Daylight robbery at nearly £25. Two adults and two children min £70 at a time where the cost of living is biting hard?. Not a place for lower earners to take the family. I'd say a tourist trap regardless to how well run it is.
My word, that cod looks extremely scrumptious ! I do simply love a hefty serving of flake and chips, too.
Been to the Magpie a few times over the years and it has always been excellent. Fish is always fresh, thick with crispy batter, a small portion is ample for me and staff are great.
Loose leaf tea tends to be better quality than that in tea bags and tea bags are often bleached (some bags are actually plastic) and many are sealed with plastic.
I've always thought it was a tourist trap tbh & can't see why people queue to get in, it looked nice but a bit expensive, glad you enjoyed it 😋
👍🏼
Lee, I know its all about the food review but to make social interaction and make people laugh in the street makes it a double bonus, keep up the good work and onwards my friend ❤👍👍👍
Thank you. 🕶️
Too expensive. My theory still stands things i ramekins are microwaved. Those peas looked claggy & over cooked.
Love how that kid photo-bombed you in the restuarant. I take it he must have been at it once too ofrten as I love how the next shot you've got the menu placed (pun unintended) strategicaly 😂
Lol. 😂 wasn't done on purpose. I just put the menu back in it's holder. 😜
I agree 100% great place great food great service & great atmosphere. Big mistake tried a takeaway from Trenchers & threw 1/2 of it in the bin. Back to Magpie’s from now on 😉
Not been to Whitby for years But there was only one Chippy worth going to, for Me. And that was Silver Street. Local Chippie. "Scraps" and Gravy. Really hope they survived......Harbour stuff was a waste of time.
That looked absolutely gorgeous
not for that price.
10 out of 10 for a excellent consistent quality (by sight of course) even though they were rammed busy. I was drooling for bread & butter fish buttie!
Now that's a proper piece of fish
Silver street chippy away from the front , fantastic fish n chips and a good few quid cheaper
Price is outrageous, £24.60 for for a fish and chip lunch!! Looked nice, but I wouldn't pay that, these things are getting way out of hand.
as long as thhere are customers willing to pay....
We are getting screwed EVERYWHERE. Just seen Tesco have reduced their clubcard points for fuel AND increased the price per litre at the same time... grim face :(
Steak and chips 24 quid bargain but fish and chips it's weird that it's not seen same way when both cost same per 100g/per ounce
Best fish and chips we have ever had from The Magpie. We live in Somerset so hoping to go back again!
Yummy fish and chips curry tasty I would give it a 9 put vinagar on the peas
Lee I think the drawback with a takeaway is the food sweats in the package softening the chips and batter. Thems is my thoughts 😮.
Dracula used to eat his fish and chips there, too. 🤣
Very unusual to see proper tea made in a pot with l bags w=if the loss leafose leaf, The only Tea I buy in bags is Yorkshire would like to try the loose leaf, Yes there is a difference in taste between the two,
My usual tea comes both ways I only buy bags if the loose is out of stock, That Fish looked impressive, I had Fish N Chips today sit down in a new Cafe to me excellent meal cooked in beef
tallow so I won't have an upset tummy tomorrow like I do with vegetable oils
Looked good to me. Good curry sauce is the icing on the cake for me. Good cuppa too.
Great vlog Lee,loved the bounty joke, the fish and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce looked very good my marks 9.50 I would have marked 10 but can't stand queueing many thanks Lee
Blimey 119 thousand subscribers now and well deserved, great to see you back at your best lee, we are so glad we got to meet you in benidorm this year you are the reason I decided to pursue my channel on RUclips if you ever could find time to drop me a plug for the real ale drinkers out there I'd appreciate it and be forever great full take care and hope to bump into you one day again soon 🍻 look after yourself buddy 👍
Went to The Magpie earlier this year, no queue as was rather late. Hate to admit it as a Grimsby boy but bloody hell it was good, the Yorkies can do a good fish & chips.
Agree with you, Trenches was pretty average and expensive.
Also honourable mention to Silver Street Fisheries which is a bit out the way (was staying in an Airbnb house close to it) and I had the feeling the people who owned it are cannibals (very odd horror-movie vibes, me and my dad were laughing the whole time especially when I asked for salt and vinegar and they starred at me for a good 10 seconds) but was delicious.
rate my take away did a review very recently, never been to Whitby. Does seem expensive
Hi Lee, enjoyed your review as usual. Very pricey though.
Why not try the swan chippy in Southport. The set meal(cod chips peas bread n butter and a pot of tea)is only £11. Really good value and good quality.
£25 quid for what lee got there is pretty much the going rate for a sit down meal at the seaside, it's like expecting to go to london and get a pint for les than 7 quid. Not going to happen. You probably can get cheaper, but remember, your not just paying for the meal, your paying for the service and your surroundings while enjoying the meal. Even at a local chippy anywhere in the country your probably looking at £15 minimum and that's takeaway. Defo a 9/10 there looked great.
Someone talking common sense at last instead of all the moaners talking about price. Lee ordered the largest fish & only waited 10 min outside. Are people who work in Whitby
supposed to work for peanuts.Your comments are spot on.
I have seen that restaurant in several other videos and they all seemed to enjoyed it. That was a huge meal, thought that was gravy for the chips at first. 😂😂
ANOTHER CRACKING VIDEO KEEP THEM COMING LEE, PETER FROM GLASGOW 👌
Fish looks fantastic.
Good review. We've been to The Magpie, very good. Got to say we preferred Mister Chips along the front, only just though.
I always have to put vinegar on my mushy peas
C'mon Lee. Rev it up. Are you confined to Northern Fish and Chip shops now? All getting rather samey mate. Get your arse in gear and travel more. Try a few niche places for a change. I feel like I am experiencing Groundhog day watching your vids. Shame I used to enjoy them. You seem like a great bloke, but I now FF your vids and try and find out if you have produced something different. Sorry, Lee. This is only my opinion. Love you anyway. 😀
Back ✈️soon. 🎥🎬🕶️
Brilliant vlog Lee was great to see this many happy memories of going there over the years with my parents .
Got to ask you.... where is the best fish and chips you've experienced in the uk .?
HOW MUCH ! Lee the loose leaf tea is so that you can have your tea leaves read - yours said we will have the shirt off your back and you will like the curry sauce more than the actual meal - for two people that would be nearly £50 - expensive in my opinion.
In my part off the woods touristy £11.50 for small lemonade and glass wine ,i consider a hell of a markup ? = whole bottle wine & a decent bottle of lemonade less than a tenner. Like the chippy supply and demand, your meal if consistent is on par with my local chippy takeaway
Your intro was 100/10 😂
Tea bags are made from sweeping the floors after processing the good loose leaf!
Watched you for years lee and I am pretty sure you have been to the magpie takeaway twice before once you ate them in your car and the other time you are then was opposite the takeaway. Anyway we have been to almost every fish and chip shop in whitby and totally agree with what you said about every one of them today you were totally honest fantastic review tonight we have been to the magpie at least 5 times and always had a tea bag but haven't been for a year. Pleased the bounty has been lifted 😂
Lol. 😂 Bounty has been lifted. 😂 👍🏼
I've commented this before in your other videos and I'll comment it again now.... You're vastly becoming one of my favourite RUclipsrs and I look forward to your videos daily.. BTW.. How on earth do you manage to produce daily videos!!? Haha. Brilliant. Keep at it! Another great video, Lee.. 👍
Side note... I personally love your Lake District vid's, like I've mentioned.. And, I think, it would be fantastic if you done a few more revisits and updated Lakes vid's 👍👍👍
He says sometimes he films more than one a day
Thank you. ❤️
Hi Lee, looks excellent fish and chips. Glad you enjoyed them. We're in Blackpool at the moment and popped into the Tower fisheries on your recommendation and they were awesome and so reasonably priced. Keep up.the good work. Love Glenn and Selina xx
It looked very good food, but Yorkshire folk paying £24! Really?
I also thought Trenchers was just "ok", found it far too greasy and I'm not normally fussy when it comes to a chippy!
You've actually been twice before! The first was in the "before times!" (before the pandemic) in which you were quite favourable!
no bleached teabags just a lovely cuppa loose tea butyou can get bleached teabags
Yes Lee loose tea does tast betterthe tea in tea bags is powdery .even loose tea typho tasts ok.
Dracula and Whitby rings a bell Mcmaster
Lovely Lee as you said in video if sure you walk in the wrong places in Whitby you will get linched hehe nice review
"Everyday is like Sunday" Whitby is a lovely place,so many fish and chips shop in the seaside town,so would be hard to decide which would be the best 😁😃😄 great vlog yet again, keep safe and well always.
Yes, it did look good. It may have been a good idea to walk into the chippy with that family, just incase, as there is strength in numbers. Haha! It looked like a 9 for me, if only it was a 'full meal deal' with mushy peas and curry sauce.😊.
Looked nice like chips with some flex and softness 👍👍👍 I'd go extra, chips and b& b too.
ive not seen a fish that meaty in ages, looks so good
Wow looked great when RMT went as well. Looks like they have quality and consistency. Absolutely delicious looking fish and chips in my opinion. Can’t wait to give it a go myself.
been there, loved it. nice review Lee
The salmon cod and smoked haddock in a thermodore sauce is beautiful
Did someone in the background complain about being on camera? I noticed the placement of the menu at 11 minutes 59 seconds. If so,I wonder if they feel the same about being on CCTV verywhere they go.
Hello Lee. Mighty fish and chips, they looked really tasty. The aftertaste you had may have been bicarbonated soda. The tea leaf is better, maybe something to do with the bag. Seemed quite pricey to me but if there is a famous chef name connection it will be. 9all around and the time is 2.49pm😄😄😄
Yep spot on Lee if only they keep the same staff and chefs to keep the consistency be ok every time not just hit and miss ??? Little john from chichester (8)
Beautiful piece of fish, there...
It's good to meet the locals. I'm curious about the oysters. Prefer west coast oysters, the east coast Cdn. oysters are muddy, very hard to shuck. Once you break in they're just as good. Service charge is BS-I don't want to go to Vegas and pay resort fees-I don't even gamble FFS! Looks good. Again-you have to order beer and tell us Cdns. about it.
It actually did look very good only down side price if your a family of 4. But scoring on the food alone solid 9
That looked nice aswell. Was just thinking it would be nice if you went and did a video in Goathland (heartbeat country) don't know if there's any chip shop there but there is the Goathland Hotel (aidensfield arms) and I think there's also a tes room aswell
I went to Whitby you have to queue to get in all restaurants, We waited 40 minutes then for two small fish and chips a bottle of wine and a slice of bread we paid £48.00 won't be going back. They make such a fuss about "fresh Whitby fish and chips" when most of the fish they serve is from Grimsby and guess what ? Sheffield is nearer to Grimsby than Whitby so it's just as fresh !!!
Over priced, over rated.. Purely living off the name ..Mr Chips blinds it...
Prefer the batter a little browner and well drained on the range, I guess the fish is straight out of the pan and on to the plate. So busy I guess they have no choice. As a foot note went in the Magpie some 25 years ago I ordered fish & chips, my girl friend had a steak, she got stared at as if she had asked for larks tounges marinated in unicorn broth. LOL happy days.
Love your content brother
7. Loose leaf in pots, teabags in mugs.
Yep the Magpie is really good. Leaf tea tastes better because bagged tea is often the dusty stuff unfit to be sold loose. Also the paper teabag has a flavour of its own.
Almost like I seen this place on a certain someone else’s RUclips just a few days ago 👀
Yep. I did it first though a couple of years ago. 😉
went 3 weeks ago, that curry sauce is the bomb💢...chips 8/10..fish 10/10👌
Great video my Friend
Hopefully there were no Whitby residents going"..is that who i think it is..?"😀

You know there’s a thing called a pub crawl. When I get to the UK I’ll be doing a chippery crawl with all the places Lee has gone. I’ll have fine time at it too. Here in New Jersey we had a proper Chippery in Kearny called the Argyle. Sadly it closed down just as CV hit. Now I have to go to NYC to a Salt & Battery to get something similar. Keep on it Lee.
My mate’s just recommended Hadley’s fish’n’chips in Whitby. I wonder if you’ve popped in there, Lee…?
😂 I just Loved it when you put the menu up so that annoying little brat couldn't see you vlogging Lee , Good for you I say Lol 😂 Xx
Too expensive for a fish n chip dinner Lee. I know it’s a large fish and you ate in but that is still a lot of money, especially when it’s 12 quid for a mini fish. Think I’ll find somewhere else to go.
Nice but extremely pricey! 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
Great as usual mate. Any plans to see the silver fox any time soon they’re always my favourite when you two are together 😂
No wig this time 😂you remember me and my family?? 🤩❤️
😅You're a brave Man Lee going back to Whitby after what happened in the past..I'm surprised you didn't wait until the Craicmaster could join you just in case lol.but i did see you had stood the menu up to cover the name on your hoodie lol just in case..but very expensive if you have got a family of four..for how much they change for adults if it was my place i would let children eat free especially during the school holidays..and they could for sure..but it's all about this 💷 unfortunately people with food places would get alot more customers if they reduced ther prices and still make a healthy profit 💷
Last went to Whitby in 2013, visiting three times on day trips from Scarborough. The first time, we did a chippy in the town (may have been Mr Chips) second time Trenchers and the third time, a place on the Quayside caled....The Quayside. All were excellent! We weren''t aware of the Magpies reputation, so didn't go!
been meaning to come back but the cost of accomadation that way has become a little silly! Maybe next year!
Love whitby, went a few weeks back, before that it was a good 25 years, and it's not changed at all😊😊😊, great video as always mate, love watching your reviews. Got to say, though, you were brave going back there😂😂😂😂😂
Forgot to mention loose leaf tea tastes far better 👍
Loose Leaf all the way. Heck when I was in China there was no strainer you just dumped the tea in a glass and poured water in. I called Tea Weeds. I am a Boston Man myself and there is no way I would go anywhere near NYC. I do like tea more so than shhhh coffee. Hey that Fish and Chips looked great! Unfortunately, where I live, they think Catfish is seafood. I grew up in the Northeast USA where there were ton of fish and chip places then the church said you could eat meat on Friday, and it put them all out of business.
Great vlogg on fish n chips as usual here….taking on the famous Magpie Cafe…as that n Trenchers seem to be the most popular looking at the queues. No doubt plenty others to choose from as seen in the vdo. The fish looked huge n meaty n cud tell u liked the curry sauce the most. Think loose leaf tea will always give a stronger flavour than tea within a tea bag. Thought was a tad expensive compared to many others u have tried before. To me it looks very touristy.
Score on the doors 8/10 🤔😉👍🏻
All good apart from the price would be a very expensive meal for a family on holiday or day trip 👍❤️
We went there for takeaway very disappointing but I think the eat in is alot better by the looks of things
Battered fish have no voice. Stop violence against fish! 😂
That town talks lee. I used to live there many moons ago. Everyone knew each other's business. The magpie was on fire 2017 & 2018.
Yes thats right i remember that video. Well you were honest in the review and on that day was bad. And a great review 8/10. And cooked in beef dripping 😁😊👍
