I need my uni vibe lol. I’ll buy yours as soon as I have the $$$. WELL DONE THIS WAS AN AWESOME JIMI JAM ON GUITAR !!! Imagine if you added some delay every now and then ???? Insane !!! Thanks 🙏:)
I've listened to a few of the audio only hendrix concert videos you can find on RUclips and this is exactly what I hear of course how can you not with these pedals , sounds great Chris
Sounds killer mate. Makes me want to abandon my pedal board for this. Interesting fuzz circuit the BOG fuzz. Sounds somewhere inbetween a fuzz face and big muff. Sounds righteous either way Chris. Shame Dunlop don’t make the big box version anymore, the mini version just didn’t seem to have the same guts/bottom end
I bought the fuzz I love it the clean up is crazy good man I want the Texan twang and the gypsy drive next . I hope they become more available at U.S. dealers they gotta be selling out fast cause they can be hard to find . Love your videos and playing Chris . Great company love the passion and commitment to the blues. Well done and I wish you all great success
Great Video, but a bit too much gain/reverb/compression on the Deluxe Reverb. Otherwise a really good approximation of Jimi's tone. Great playing as well!
Haha no battery cover anymore on my Dunlop Octavio neither, just like that vanished... It’s as if everybody seems to agree this pedal sounds absolutely awesome but even better without this small plastic piece 😜 Anyway, yeah you certainly did succeed in capturing the essence of this very special Hendrix show, and your guitar playing is superb as always 👍
Right components, but I think most players incorrectly assume Jimi used the fuzz face more than he did. It was usually the distortion of CLEAN guitar loud enough to cause speaker breakup and interaction. He would back the guitar volume control to about 3-4 to sound as if a distortion unit was switched off. Kind of waaaaay too much reverb there too. Again, playing at stadium levels, natural slap back ambience is audible. Even outdoors. God, this sounds nasty. LOL Use a Marshall, at least a half stack.. or an all tube Twin,. At 17 (1970) I had the exact rig, minus the Octavia. Fender vibrato Stratocaster, Marshall 100 8x12, Univibe, Vox Wah, Dallas Fuzzface. The heart of Jimi's sound was the AMP. The fuzz face was solos like Stone Free, Voodoo Child (Slight Return) or House Burning Down, and octived Purpule Haze. I don't think he ever used the Fuzzface on any part of All Along the Watchtower. It's SPEAKER BREAKUP and interactive feedback. None of that lives at low volume or speakerless DI. I RARELY hear Hendrix copycats not use a fuzzbox on EVERY friggin thing. Remember, BEFORE he went to England, he was playing loud as hell without the FX boxes he later discovered. They never were the heart of his "sound". Trust me on that. It will open a door that you probably haven't gone through
on point. Sound is actually dreadful. Definately anywhere near Hendrix tone. Don''t ya people praising the tone here in the comments don't have ears?? I also got tired of everybody PRed into thinking that Hednrix was all bout fuzz
IMO, Hendrix’s tone left quite a lot to be desired. I’ll chalk it up to the big amps and effects pedals being basically new technology. Kenny Wayne Sheppard and SRVs tone makes Hendrix is a hard listen (tone wise) if you play it directly after the two other guys I mentioned
The band of gypsys circuit is not like a normal fuzz face...if you listen to jimi at the isle of Wight he got those same oscillations with his wah and fuzz he was using at that time. I think you have to modify the wah to get rid of it.
Bro are you going wah into fuzz? Because i run my fuzz from you guys first to get mine to work with my setup which is fuzz wah 808 to blues jr. What do you recomend?
Came here from your Instagram post, expecting great things. I've been listening to Band Of Gypsys since I was about 14, which is (gulp) 32 years ago now. Nothing I've heard has been as close as this video - superb work! Would have preferred it to be longer, to give a bit more time to hear how the different combinations of pedals sound. Also I don't understand if/how you changed the order of the signal chain without unplugging and replugging them in, did you have an external switcher of some sort or do I just not know what I'm talking about? Probably the latter. Anyway, 7:55 that riff is just THE Hendrix sound I've been looking for for years. Once I get up I'll be plugging in my nearest pedals to try to get close, and emptying out the kids' piggy banks to try and scrape enough together for a Gypsy Vibe.... Thanks man ✌️
Hi Sam, Thank you so much for the lovely comment. That really means a lot! We didn’t actually change the signal Order at all on this particular video. It’s a really inspiring set up! That’s awesome in regards to our gypsy vibe, really appreciate the support 🎸🎛
Yikes I've been listening to the live at the filmore for 30 years now! Personally the last 3rd of who knows is my favourite bit of hendrix. It's the end of the 60s and you can tell. It's funky as he'll and I must listen to it and machine gun five times a week still
You should really invest in a microphone. The sound from the camera is distorted and unpleasing to listen to over studio monitors. But great sound apart from the mic quality.
Thanks a lot for the feedback. We did actually use an SM57 on this but you’re not the first person to bring up this objection, I think we crushed the audio too much with distortion in postproduction. Lesson learned for next time. Thanks again for watching
My 2 cents: Dlx Reverb with reverb pretty prominent is irritating and lacks the warm basis of a Plexi. Next thing is the Wah…the sweep/effect is cutting through the Fuzz - this is what a buffer allows, definitely not what Jimi had at that time - he had a mod made to the output resistor of his Wah, so the sweep of your Vox makes me suspicious. Overall cool playing and sympathetic presentation, the sound though doesn’t really remind me of Jimi’s sound 👍
@@PedalPawn Could you quickly explain, why your Wah works so brilliantly with your Fuzz? If you had a Plexi it would be awesome to hear these pedals through that amp :-)
Dear Chris, it's definitely not my meaning to rain on your parade, but the Dunlop Octavio, as cool as it is, is actually n o t a recreation of the unit Jimi played on the BOG gigs. Instead history, based on decades of research, has shown the pedal that musician/keyboardist - and friend of Jimi's - Gerard Jerry Guida owned for decades, one he claims Jimi gifted him in 1970, later sold by Guida to collector Al Romano, verified as the real deal by Roger Mayer, and lastly seen actioned off by Julien's Auction House in December 2020 - to be the actaul ONE. If you don't believe me, there are several ways you can check the authenticity of what I'm telling you. The Mayer made unit that dear brother Jeorge Tripps lovingly cloned on behalf of the Dunlop company, the one in the MuPOP (Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle) is simply not the BOG one. It sounds killer, but it's not the BOG unit. So while I do realise that this is the internet, a place that tends to put personal random opinion over well researched facts, I still thought it might be a good idea to share the latter with you. You seem like a genuine and passionate young individual, one who would want to get his Hendrix history right :-) Wishing you all the best - and please keep on pushing, straight ahead
I’ve never heard Hendrix sound so distorted to the point it made no sense? actually he didn’t usually play all that distorted? Anyway. Gotta work with em. The order you run them in is important.
What’s funny about this, and I have no way of knowing. But it would be funny if Jimi were alive today And didn’t even like any of this shit anymore much less use any of it. Lol
It was cool to see the pedals, but my God, that was EQ'd and recorded so bad it was painful. Why would you post something like that? Those pedals sound and record great when done right. Come on bro, you can do better than that...

That is a rig of mass destruction! Tone for years. Love it.
Haha thanks so much mate!!
Holy hell. That’s so out of control but you seem to rein it in. I love all those sounds so much.
Wow, that’s so nice of you to say, thank you so much
awesome playing! so rare to hear someone actually capture the “out of control” epicness of Jimi’s style 👏
Absolutely loving these pedalboard recreation videos!! 🔥🔥

That bombastic tone and riff at 6:18 made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. (Pun intended)
Same with 9:00. What a fun and informative video!
Yep, that univibe sounds incredible. It sounds more watery and less phase-y than any current one I've heard
Definitely the right vibe, no pun intended but I think Jimi was less distorted. I guess he was probably using Marshalls too
How did get the Wah tone starting at 5:43 ? Sounds lovely, the wah really sings.
Its got vintage mojo in there. It's what we hear on records so it just resonates with us.

No he didn't. You just heard the tune
I would take the Gypsy vibe out and replace it with a Fulltone Deja Vibe..
Absolutely I would also Fulltone deja vibes are 100% Era correct and hand made
It sounds unbelievably good!
Are the pickups on the guitar used in this video bridge or neck? Is it the neck?
Now that was fun!! Thanks, Chris.
Awesome stuff, thanks a lot mate
I'm pretty sure Jimi ran Fuzz into Wah , as documented on Woodstock and Isle of Wight photos.
Nope. Look again
Hi Chris... Thanks so much for this... I was hoping to find a video of this... Curious though.... Did Jimi use verb?...
Wah, octavia, fuzz then vibe is what his chain was for band of gypsys
Awesome playing Awesome Tone congratulations 👏 👏

A clean sound like on Cry of Love?

Silicon
Red is germanium
How the base tone is so spot on? Any overdrive or just clean amp?

I prefer my Fuzzface before the Wah
Too much amp gain or too loud for the phone mic
I think that is exactly what happened. A little too much bass too perhaps. I think the input was getting overloaded at times.
