Bingo Ochiai must've been one of the very smallest and most remote interchange stations out there. There is absolutely nothing around the station, not even a hamlet around it.
Yeah 20 years ago when I rode from Matsue to Hiroshima on this line I thought I could grab some food at Bingo Ochiai. I thought there'd at least be a convenience store or something at the station. You can imagine my dismay when the reality dawned on arrival! Man was my stomach hungry by the time I got to Hiroshima!
@@lontongstroong it was more like "Oh no!" 🤣 Just remember in 99 there was no Google maps or Wikipedia, or RUclips videos to inform oneself beforehand.😀
This is called a switchback. It's like a road serpentine and has the same purpose. But because it's impossible for trains to make sharp u-turns the only solution is to change the direction. Switchbacks aren't uncommon for mountain railways despite traffic slowing off course. You can find a lot of them, for example, here: ruclips.net/video/_4Yyti9K9cg/видео.html (watch all parts!).
Switchback occurs on the Akita Shinkansen at Omagari Station, also on the Ltd Express Hida at Gifu Station. So it's not even only on mountains, does happen in cities too and on faster trains! On trains where seats direction can be changed (like the Akita Shinkansen or Hida) you may board the train with seats facing backward and the announcer will warn you that the facing direction will change later on. (i.e. if you board between Akita>Omagari or Nagoya>Gifu).
@@Antipika Now I guess switchbacks are common or even necessary in all railway systems. Unlike what we see in this video, they just do it in the backyard without passengers.
I like that switchback. At first I didn't know what was going on when the train started to go in reverse, so I looked up Izumo Sakane and saw the route on the map.
Wow ,Sugoi . This's so interesting and spectacular . Many Many Thanks for the Fantastic Video .I am really in Love with Japan's Country side . If We could see the Small Villages and Farmers, those who are working on their Paddy Fields ,It will be more enthusiastic .
1:26:53 The first tunnel from Kamedake station (kametaka eki) is the Tandani tunnel (660m). I noticed that water had accumulated in the right waterway (?) around where the train went through the tunnel. Does water collect in this season?_? , I thought that water was springing from the wall inside the tunnel, and I felt difficulty of track maintenance management. (by Google translate & my fix.)
Good morning or good evening. For me it's the most beautiful video with the most amazing landscapes i ever seen on your channel. Thanks a lot. Merci beaucoup. Goedemorgen of goedeavond. Heel erg bedankt.
Wow. The landscapes could be the inspiration for Studio Ghibli animations. I did mot see a Totoro though. On the negative side the vegetation in the track ballast is not good for the long time health of the track.
Most enjoyable Train ride, Noticed that the Japanese architecture is very functional: Boxy housing with slanted roofs. They are also very productive with large spaces devoted to rice production And they drive on the left side like the Brits.
How horrible that this line would be considered for closure. It is such a pleasant ride through the countryside. If I had the means to visit Japan I definitely would go out of my way to ride this line.
I think it has to be one of japans most scenic railway journeys and if they should try to close it down the good people of japan should band together to save it jr west should promote it as a tourist line people would come from all around the world to ride on it the same thing happened in our state of nsw (australia) they closed down most of the state country lines and if you want to go to country nsw you have to catch a bus the state goverment of the day wrecked the whole system cheers bob. ps "DONT LET IT HAPPEN OVER THERE".
While it's not impossible, it would be difficult since this line does not lead anywhere. In addition, the Hakubi line which serves a similar route is very close by. There have been some success stories of railway companies in Japan bringing on tourist trains to increase profits but in those cases, it's a line that leads to a particular somewhat populous city which has no other railways nearby. JR just closed the Sanko Line which was quite near to the Kisuki Line a few years ago, but at least this line has a few more regular passengers than that line.

Great video !! I've been watching a lot of these lately (my wife thinks I'm crazy) and I think this is the best I've seen. Thanks for your videos AUNZ RAILFAN !!
Very scenic line and enjoyable video. It was sad to see the tracks so overgrown with weed and the constant speed restrictions presumably due to the poor state of the track. JR should invest in some urgent upgrades to the track.
I doubt the speed restrictions are due to poor maintenance. The Kisuki line was built in 1932 and is a very mountainous line. Lots of curves would require the speed limits we see to operate safely. I doubt JR would put money into this line beyond keeping it in somewhat usable form since it earns very little money.
Without going off the beaten track we would never know this or any other non-urban part of Japan. Many thanks.

Enjoy these videos. I live in the desert in north-west Arizona USA and it is just dirt and rocks. Japan is green and has trees, so beautiful.

A most enjoyable, relaxing trip. At 35:35, that is the best vanishing act I’ve seen in years 😉. 🐨🇦🇺
Absolutely- like a Harry Potter character :)
excellent scenic journey. thank you

Very interesting and scenic to watch. Loved it! 🥰❤️🤗

Would be a very cool job to be a motorman on this line, great views from the office window!
That platform on the right at Izumo Yashiro Station makes it look like at one point there was another track there. Very interesting
There was but it was likely removed due to it not being needed. Having more points means more maintenance is required.
I enjoyed this recording, very good quality and what a beautiful nature and especially the peace it radiated.
