    Hello Jed, thank you for this and your other videos on the Volvo 3.2 6 cylinder engine. It is the same as the LR2 (Freelander 2 in UK) 3.2 i6. The petrol/gasoline engine is not so popular in the UK but I love it! We use ours to travel between the UK and the centre of France, (usually about 12 hours driving) and recently suffered from an overheated engine. The problems, following on from a split bottom hose and loss of coolant, were my fault. I should have stopped immediately and called for recovery... Instead I continued driving to the garage... Big mistake, as I warped the cylinder head. We are in a very rural part of the country and in some respects like stepping back in time so, 'we' decided to have a go and strip it down ourselves. We have the Land Rover workshop manual but it assumes that the engineer is already trained on the vehicle and so leaves gaps in the procedure. Your videos are excellent as they take us through physical method of putting key components back together as well as demonstrating the things to be careful of. I cannot thank you enough, You are a star! Emma x

    I have oil leaking into my spark plug tubes on my 2002 Volvo S60 2.4T. Based off of these other comments it seems like it is due to either a bad O-ring around the spark plug tube or the cam cover seal has gone bad. My question is, how difficult is it to take off the valve cover and will I have to have that special tool to do so? Also curious if it’s possibly smartest to just replace the head gasket at the same time as I have an issue of burnt coolant. Thank you.

    • @TheVolvoGuy

      You will need tools to reseal the valve cover, as far as the headgasket, if you have no problems with it I would leave it alone

    Awesome content, deep respect to your knowledge and the way you share it. I've found myself in a tricky position where I discovered in my recently purchased c30 t5 one of the 4 short bolts around the spark plug coil #1 snapped and the remaining half of the bolt is still threaded in the head. Oil builds up, fills the hole and accumulates in the casting puddles around as when oil is spilled over the valve cover when putting fresh oil thru the filler neck. Also noticed when changing spark plugs oil sips in and almost covers the spark plug too. I have a few mods and ready to get tune to stage 2 or 2+ meaning another 60 to 80hp and 100 to 130 tq increase. Should that be addressed or can I live with it cleaning the excess oil every a couple of weeks. Maybe try sealing the hole with silicone? Should I try removing the broken bolt? I would love not to remove the valve cover, but every not volvo expert I've asked have different a opinion.

    A few quick questions, are the two rear cam plugs easy to install? Do they require any pink sealer? Can I carefully use a pick to pull out the old leaky cam plugs and press in the two new ones? And what should I use to prep the surfaces where the new cam plugs go, just wipe out the oil? Should I clean with a degreaser or alcohol? Thanks for any tips!

    • @TheVolvoGuy
      @TheVolvoGuy  Год назад +1

      The caps do not require any sealer, but you do have to replace them, using a pick will damage the cap surface or the head/cam cover surface.

    • @TheVolvoGuy

      As long as you don't change the valves, the Camshaft or the Tappit, or the tappit location, then no adjustments are needed. The intake clearance is .200mm +- 0.05.

  • @geeserguy
    @geeserguy 5 лет назад

    The question I have is the oil filler cap stand in the head has been displaced and is now partially recessed in the head. Is there any chance of removing the cam cover and getting the cap stand reinstalled. I can't pull it up from externally . Have another engine without that problem but the timing belt jumped and valves are bent; 0 Compression. God another engine but that is the one with the oil filler cap stand problem or am I going to have to take the heads off and try to make the one with the bent valves operable since the cam & head are mated together. Additionally, I do not have the special tools to do a valve job. Car is old enough that there are not that many decent used engines available.

    • @TheVolvoGuy
      @TheVolvoGuy  5 лет назад

      Now the oil filler screen fell inside the head and you can't get it back to its place? If that is the case then yes you have to remove the valve cover to reinstall it. If you have another cylinder head you have to fix the valves and swap the head and the cam cover as one unit you can not change the cam cover by it self.

Then i replaced the oil filler cap gasket. Still have new oil appearing In my spark plug ports. Was wondering if the next step should be to replace the o rings for the spark plug ports. If yes could you help me understand the timing set up and if I need the special tool to hold the cams in place. Also was thinking if I have the timing belt off I'd do the the belt, tensioners, and the water pump. Hoping you could make a video before I start ripping into my daily.

      Hi,
      You would have to remove the power steering pump then the intake manifold then the induction pipe. Then the wiring and some brackets that is attached to the valve covers. You do not have to replace both, but if you doing all that work would you want to do it again if the other side starts leaking a year from now? I would change both.
