Mad Men 06x03 - Trudy confronts Pete "I will destroy you"

- "I refuse to be a failure. I don't care what you want any more. This is how it's going to work - you will be here only when I tell you to be here. I'm drawing a 50 mile radius around this house and if you so much as open your fly to urinate, I will destroy you."
I always wish that Trudy found out about the secret baby.
I don't think she would have cared because the baby was adopted out and not around to cause scandal to her social standing. Trudy didn't care if Pete philandered, just that he was discreet.
She would burn down the city.
@@jeremyud she would have been mad because it was further proof that he wasn't being discreet, but you're right that the baby legally being placed out of their lives would've soothed that burn
@@juliantapia1407 I think it would have thrown her for a loop because she'd never sensed anything between him and Peggy and never imagined she was a threat, and Trudy seemed to rather like Peggy. I don't know if she'd be mad, but she'd be shocked. I wouldn't say that his dalliance of Peggy was an example of indiscretion, since no one at the office ever put two and two together with Pete and Peggy. People assumed that she'd slept with Don, but no one ever suspected her and Pete. No one but Don even knew Peggy was ever even pregnant, and even he didn't know whose baby it was, though he didn't much care about that particular detail.
@@jeremyud she did care that he cheated. It hurt her deeply... but it can only hurt so much for so long before you start resenting the person and come numb to it. Then you have to make the most of what you have, and back then that meant keeping your reputation together. Trudy loved him when they got married and tried for YEARS to make him happy. She didn’t use him for status- he USED HER for that- he married HER because you came from a wealthy, well-connected family, remember? And she didn’t care that he didn’t have a lot of money, she just wanted a loving husband and family and he never cared about her. So eventually she had to grow up, realize it was never going to happen, and get practical. Humans are social creatures, we need friends, especially when a happy home life has eluded us. Back then, that meant having a good reputation for someone like Trudy and where she lived. She was mad he wasn’t being discreet because she had long ago become numb to the cheating and that was literally ALL the consideration she asked of him.
Trudy was like the perfect wife. Pete was a spoiled brat who didn't know how good he had it.
I feel bad for him because he pulled exactly the same shit Don pulled but Don got away with it and he didn't.
@@quintiniusverginix7827 You feel bad for a guy who cheats on his amazing wife? I thought it was funny watching him get caught and kicked to the curb. Pete thought he was slick but Trudy was too smart for him.
@@PatrickPierceBateman " You feel bad for a guy who cheats on his amazing wife?" I do
@@quintiniusverginix7827 Don also saw what Pete had and tried to tell Pete not to throw it away
@@quintiniusverginix7827 Don didn't get away with it. It just took him much longer to get caught. And they got caught the same way, the second the screwed around with a married woman, said woman's husband rats on them. They were equally as reckless.
Trudy enjoyed having an upper-class life and always put on the perfect performance to ensure it went smoothly; but you can tell even from the early episodes she's not blind or oblivious. She just knows that appearances and optics are 90% of what matters in their social circle and business affairs. Trudy married Pete to ensure a lifestyle, but she would never let him take her down.
I can always tell someone’s been watching Succession when they slip in “optics” in a sentence lol
She's richer than he is. He has the name, but his family has lost some its former status.
Of all the mad men wives Trudy surprised me, at first I thought she was going to be a younger version of Betty or a trophy wife like Megan or Roger’s second wife, but she holds her own, she managed to mix 50s housewife with 60s independent femininity, she willingly supports her husband and respects his “needs” but she won’t be forced down by him, Trudy was definitely in the vein of the strong woman alongside Joan and Peggy
@@bellablow4287
And. In your case I prescribe some subservient boring ass piece of hell.
I mean... Pete’s not exactly an intimidating husband. Standing up to him is probably way easier than standing up to Don or Roger.
His "needs" more like his self-destructing sin
@@hollywoodshopaholic Pete is way more slippery though.
@broomsterm you missed the point of Joan as a character.
Even after she found out she just wishes he was discreet and not that he hadn’t done what he did. That’s crazy amount of leniency.
Perfect wife.
Who marries Alison Brie and then cheats on her?!
Green Dale hopefully not Dave Franco
Vincent Kartheiser, apparently.
The same guy that blackmails a teenager into having sex with him
Ronaldo Sosa, what kind of a dirtbag does that?
People like pete
Wow Alison Brie is so cool. I mean it's awesome how she can be serious in Mad Men and a college student in Community. I love it
Also a happy go lucky half cat half unicorn in the LEGO movie!
She invented acting 💖💖💖
She's a wrestler now.
Don't forget about Diane!
The woman of our dreams.
"I'll live with that."
I love how both Betty and Trudy are given the chance to turn their husband's desperate insults back on them.
"What, so now I'm not good enough for some mainline brat?"
"That's right."
When asked in an interview which Mad Men character he would want to catch up with in 10 years, Mathew Weiner said without hesitation “Trudy Campbell”. And that actually makes sense. Despite her starting out and remaining one of the smaller roles in the series, every time she briefly appears Alison Brie and the writers always imbued her with a positive energy and strong sense of self determination. I suspect that even in 1983 Trudy would still be a stable happy person.
Pete deserved it. Cheating on any woman is not good, but on Trudy it's just plain silly.
if i asked my woman permission to cheat my balls would be confiscated
Sounds like your balls are already gone if you have to ask permission for anything
@@rogerpatino3000 i give u permission to have a sense of humour
@@transeeyou885 he's an incel - no such thing as humour with then
Your lack of self awareness is hilarious
I love how realistic they make it - you can actually hear the refrigerator compressor kick on right in the silence between Trudy’s fury and Pete’s response.
this show had fantastic sound design
I don’t hate Pete, but I wish Trudy hadn’t gotten back with him at the end. He didn’t deserve it. He cheated on her a hundred times.
LovelyMiss90 Yeah but it’s obvious she had other priorities than having a faithful man
I don't remember these 2 getting back together? In season 7?
@@fletchersykes1660 Yes last episode
Yeah but she only knows about the one time. Plus, and she said it herself, there was an understanding as long as he kept it super discreet.
@@Sirirenen Thanks. I wasn't really a big fan of seasons 6 and 7. I'll give them a rewatch.
I liked that Trudy stood up for herself in this scene. Hilarious how Pete thought he could simply stroll through the kitchen after his neighbor peeled by their place and booted his bloodied and beaten side piece onto his lawn. "SHE'S ALL YOUR NOW, CAMPBELL!" * *SCREEEEEEEECHHHHH!* * Ha ha! Then she even set about nursing the girl and wiping up her blood.
The next morning though? Pete's all, "GOOOOOOD morning, cupcake! Well, I'm off!" Ba ha ha ha ha. He wants to be Don, but...he ain't.
johnnytastetest you’re so right. He does want to be Don. But he fails miserably
Even Don wants to be Don. ..but fails. ..
Besides, Don was cought too...more than once. Take your heads out of your asses.
@@jenlindley7780 yep
His own ego is out of his league
@@inkedhigh isn't everyones?
The way she grinds into "I will destroy you" is so brutal and amazing. Hard to believe this is the same actress who played sweet sweet Annie on Community when she uncorks that one.
did anyone else feel the need to stand up and cheer that trudy finally stood up to pete? ATTAGIRL, TRUDY!!!!
Haha and then later she totally caves again and goes back to him.
For anyone who hasn't seen this episode, the next scene is of Trudy installing paintball guns on all roads within the fifty mile radius.
I love her voice
I was so glad she finally told him off. And then I could totally see her becoming a sucessful stand-up comic, The Marvelous Mrs. Campbell. Trudy has that same wit, intelligence and joie de vivre. And Pete watching her in the audience, shocked, and realizing what a fool he's been.
...if that don't work out she can try wrestling. ;)
Hells bells Trudy!
+stipV A thing like that!
Marriage is a racket
@@esmeexavier5790 your right
Slavery at its best
I was celebrating when she finally stood up to Pete 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
She is such a badass. I love this badass threat she gives. "I Will Destroy You." I'd be shitting myself if she said that to me.
Not more badass than you Walter..

Your all narcissistic a-holes. Go f yourself
I wish my mother had had this conversation with my father in the mid '70s.
she’s not your mother bro
Trudy Campbell LOCKIN SHIT DOWN.
Although, Trudy's father gave Pete many accounts. I can see how Trudy can use it against him if he does not comply.
I would divorce his ass and leave him destitute.
Trudy needed him to make money or she’d be an embarrassing burden to her parents.
My favorite Trudy moment is at their apartment when arrogant Pete is playing hard to get with Don and Roger on joining the new agency. Trudy, listening in from the down the hallway, yells something like, "Peter, could you come in here for a moment?"
It always found it depressing when they moved to Connecticut. The tone was always very Revolutionary Road in feel. The oppressiveness of suburban living in the middle of nowhere no matter how close you are to the city center.
Yeah, back then vibrant NYC would make it seem like they were moving into a cave. But after coronavirus lockdown/PLAN-demic? The suburbs are now the place to be.
She deserved a much better husband.
She was into his pedigree. Remember how she bragged to the real estate agent when they looked at apartments? She was also a spoilt brat.
His mistress was so much better in many ways, he deserved a much better wife
Cheating on Trudy was the dumbest thing Pete ever did.
Every time I see Trudy I can’t believe she played Annie and every time I see Annie I can’t believe she played Trudy
Just proves how talented Alisson brie is
I just can't take this serious, watched Community before Mad men..
What about Bryan Cranston? He was a crazy and hilarious dad in Malcolm in The Middle and then he goes all badass serious acting in Breaking Bad? I love how some actors can change so much when we see them in other shows or movies.
remember that episode where abed pretended to be don to seduce annie, so when abed watch mad men and saw trudy he never think to himself "she reminds me of someone i livedtogetdher with"
HAHAHAHA yes
God, honestly? When she gets serious here, all I hear is a 60s era Diane Nguyen.
"we try not to sexualize Annie"
It's so beautifully in character for Pete that the best he could come up with to defend himself was "........you don't know anything for sure though!!" 😂
The closest thing Mad Men has to a jump the shark moment is them staying together throughout the series.
Today Trudy would be a CEO
what i see when i first watch this scene : a determined woman who is pissed at his husband for cheating at her
what I see after watching community : annie pretending to be a badass
well you should have married Jeff !
YYEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on bruh
But he didn't want to marry her.
@@gabrielluizja443 he kinda did though
Peter never deserved Trudy for one second, she is the most underrated character on the show
I love how that's the best threat that Pete can conjure in that moment 🤣 yeah, she walked away the winner of that round and the whole match.
Trudys a fuckin badass. Cleaned up Pete and got Don to come to a dinner party.
Trudy is the best wife in the whole show. One of my favorite characters. Pete doesn't deserve her but getting her at the end was the best ending for him.
Why would he want to be with another woman? Trudy's like the perfect wife
Jules 1997 the perfect wife....what century are you from
Lol what? I don’t want a wife that forces me to buy an apartment I don’t want
i loved trudy in this scene-taking control; go on girl! even peter is like 'damn it!' alison does a great job playing her.
I’ve always respected Pete’s professional drive and ambition, but I thought he was dumb to cheat on Trudy. She was gorgeous, smart, and really respected her marriage and husband. I used to wish I was one of his friends at the office that would tell him, Pete don’t f*ck it up with Trudy she’s a gem!
And she’s a great mom too
I heard she say “I will destroy you” but with a paintball gun behind her back
Trudy The Destroya
why didn't she stomp on his testicles sooner, he would stop cheating
Trudy is such a lioness. So much love for her.
To this day it is still one the most glorious scenes on TV.
Watch Pete get his ass handed to him throughout this series was a great joy. Seeing how they gradually receded his hair and set his course for oblivion was brilliant, and foreshadowed from the beginning. Tough character to have to play and live with.
Annie's young we try not to sexualize her.
@LokiTetch Alexandra Rubin and Prince Andrew
@LokiTetch It's a quote from Community.
LokiTetch She plays Annie in Community and it’s a quote from the show. Every interview or clip of Alison Brie has at least one version of it.

Alison Brie seems so different in Mad Men than what I'm used to seeing her in acting (Community).
that's good acting for ya
I’m used to seeing her in Bojack Horseman
Oh shit. This scene was great. Trudy SMASH!
Reason #14 why I like Alison Brie
I refuse to be a failure 😂😂
Trudy was my favorite female character on the show. She had the best arc.
Alison Brie could do it all! One of my favorite scenes!! Trudy was always too good for Pete
You go, Trudy.
I love Allison Brie, she has great range. This was before she even played Annie on Community as a 19 year old college student. I always had a huge celebrity crush on her, and especially her as Annie.
I was so happy when Trudy stood up to Pete & disappointed when they got back together
Pete and Trudy have the best exchanges! Hells bells!
Men love to use "being alone " as a scare tactic to women, hoping all that conditioning helps them with that crap. Its such a cheap ploy, and whats worse is they believe it. No matter how much a crappy husband I am, you wont leave, because where will that leave you???
With the house or apt if you are smart. When the dust settles date move on etc.
I remember believing that they had a happy new beginning in the series finale. The writing on that show was great.
So far the best line of season 6.
You go Trudy!!
Pete didn't deserve Trudy ... at all.
Remember to turn your speakers or headphones back down after watching this video.
Damn, she's good. She should have had a much bigger role in that show.
Chill out diane
In reality, Alison brie would never have to play second fiddle to another woman 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yea Trudy!
I like how there is literally ZERO mention of the husband beating up his wife.
Pete was out of his depth all the time, including with Trudy. But at the end they are grinning from ear to ear.
I never heard of this Alison Brie before yesterday....she is marvelous
That scene was so awesome!
A fifty-mile radius? Poor Pete - that includes all of New York City 😊
Yeah I was gonna say, I grew up around Greenwich, I don’t think it’s that far from the city! XD
"Fifty mile radius. A thing like that."
Its funny how the woman he cheats with becomes his wife IRL. Both Vincent and Elisabeth get to share Alexis in their equally successful shows.
I'd die laughing if they reveal shes moved on from Pete, only to reveal her new lover is either Jeff or Troy from Community.
I still can't believe everything pretty much worked out well for that snivelling, cowardly, vile Pete. Trudy should have remarried a better man or stayed single. She was always way too good for him.
Too good how? What did she accomplish in her life exactly? Being born rich and attractive?
"Trudy don't jump through conclusions!"
Pete is sooo cynic hahaha gotta love him ♥
I love Trudy, she is my favorite female character. By the way, where is their dancing?
I had crush on Trudy😊
This is by far the best scene of the season so far!!!
I fucking love trudy! Such a badass. When the dude in the situation gets cheated on, he beats his wife. When trudy gets cheated on she takes said beaten wife to the hospital and then eviscerates pete 😆💖
Trudy is WIFEY GOALS
Trudy got tired of pete's shit. 😂🤣
Trudy was the strongest woman on the show. Also the most beautiful in my eyes
when i watched mad men and didn't know who alison brie was, i was like damn who's this amazing actress who plays the role of "annoying wife" and "strong woman who stands for herself" so well. it always stuck with me. Later I find out she's a famous one. kudos to her skill that i managed to somehow remember her character without even knowing who the actress is at all.
I wonder 💭 If Don had been with a woman like Trudy, I bet he would have been a different husband a different person. He responds well with kind caring warm women like Anna. Betty was the Anti-Trudy.
It would have been interesting if Trudy and Don had more interactions just to learn more about each other or compare each other’s counterparts.
Trudy actually reminds me a little bit of Monica from Friends. Referring to their shared traits of working hard at relationships, understanding their partners and supporting their needs. They each have a “what can I do for you” attitude always trying to please the crowd.
Trudy is very inspiring! 💕
Best scene of the series ‼️
Is anyone else getting major Eliza Schuyler vibes from her in this scene?
Wow I don’t remember this episode of community. When did Annie get so hardcore
This is 'Capricious' Caroline Decker
What happened with the blood on the towel at the end? I didn't see this episode
50-mile radius? Pete better start looking for a job in another city. (lol!)
Trudy lives in the suburbs. Pete lives in New York City. That's why he says "out here."
Or rather, Pete has an apartment in NYC, ostensibly because of the long commute.
+hahayouarefunny And because of his mistresses.
fucking dirtbag, does mistresses have anything to do with why his wife is threatening destruction
"Don't get mad. Get everything." - Ivana Trump
I hear Diane when she talks
There was not 1 good person in this entire show, but I still loved it
Who cheats on Annie?
Alison Brie is such a talented actress!
What season is this? I just recently got into the show and plan on going through in order, but I would love to see when she finally starts standing up against Pete
Season 6, episode 3. For future reference, that is how to read the numbers in the title (06x03, or you might see them as 0603 or something).
Actually it's episode 2 in season 6.
How could anyone cheat on her like
