I personally don't have a problem with shipping culture, it's just when things get out of hand or when fights break out that it becomes poisonous to a fandom.

In my opinion, although I completely get the appeal to RariJack, AppleDash is such a refreshing ship and I’m glad that it’s been made (somewhat) canon. Sapphic pairings in media are almost always somewhat heteronormative. There’s the girly femme and the masculine butch (or as I like to call it, the “girl lesbian x boy lesbian” trope). This trope, to me (a butch, sapphic woman), has always felt like an appeal to the heterosexual gaze, because it’s like they are trying to make the relationship more “acceptable” by forcing heterosexual standards onto them. AppleDash is special to me because, since both Applejack and Rainbow Dash are pretty tomboyish, they can’t be forced into traditionally heterosexual relationship roles because everything about their relationship is so GAY!!! The butch lesbian x butch lesbian pairing is so rare and underrepresented, that I am so ecstatic to see it represented in a show that I love! Again, I like RariJack and I get the appeal, but Applejack and Rainbow Dash make such a good butch power couple!
Yes! It’s so rare to get a butch x butch or masc x masc pairing! So often if it’s not “girl lesbian x boy lesbian” it’s two femmes or two “girl lesbians” and of course there’s nothing wrong with either of those pairings, it’s just important for there to be a wide range of representation! Same thing goes for relationships between two guys where there’s often a more femme one which makes it more digestible to audiences expecting heteronormativity.
as someone that ships rarijack and appledash. I think appledash is very important because it shows that you dont need to have a fem and masc person to be a romantic relationship, you can have two masculine people (in this case ponies) or two feminine people, or even two androgs, or a combo of any of that. You dont need a mother figure or a father figure, relationships dont need to stick to those heteronormative roles. Even straight couples dont have to have fem and masc, and feminine man and masculine woman should also be more normalized. As much as I love rarijack, I do appreciate appledash for showing that.
I feel like the Pony Appledash/ Human Rarijack Ship situation is the perfect example of how the interdimensional parallel characters are, in fact, separate characters, appropriately informed by their home dimensions. I mean, we have that one adorable EqG short where Applejack is making a RUclips video about redoing Rarity's studio- it goes a bit awry, but she's totally committed to making this video. Meanwhile, if phones hit Equestria in G4, could you imagine how hard it would be to convince Applejack to carry around a mobile device full time like that? (Even if it were apple brand lol) Applejack got to know the other girls- and thus a lot of Friendship lessons at a younger age, and had less pressure to take on financial/guardianship responsibilities because of human Apple Family circumstances. Human AJ has more in common with human Rarity, and stands to benefit less from Rainbow Dash's support network than Pony Applejack. Horse AJ would likely thrive around the pony-specific Military-lite Wonderbolts and would surely come to appreciate being included in RD's family unit without having to take responsibility all the damn time. (I assume AJ became matriarch of the broader Apple Family diaspora) Rarity and Pinkie don't change too much, but Rainbow seems to be more grounded (ha) without discovering the gift of the legendary Rainboom at a young age, and humble when she does get the Speed Force. ...Humble by Dash standards. Fluttershy is just so much happier- she probably had bullying, yes, but it wasn't based on a perceived disability that was associated with repeated, involuntary fits of skydiving. She lacks the extreme degree of PTSD of pony Fluttershy, so we can kinda see a more natural state of flutterbutter shyness. Which is still very shy. But poor Twilight- she's so clearly designed for Magic, but stuck in a magicless world. Incomplete as a person. She's just a walking metaphor for "Friendship is Magic" in that sense- the magic friendship princess has nothing without those three things. (Which kinda feels wrong to say, but her situation is kinda messed up in itself- imagine finding out you're the mortal mirror version of an immortal demigod who's career trajectory involves talking over an eternal reign over a mystical kingdom and casually dribbling the Sun, with a Dragon at your side) Pony Twilight actually had friends- Lemon Hearts, Lyra and the others, two brothers as well as real magic. SciTwi had one brother, a dog, and social media. Oof.

I also think another reason RariJack works in EQG and not in pony is that Rarity in pony is a CEO with a huge fashion empire and probably has to travel a lot, whereas Applejack is very much a homebody in a lot of ways. Rainbow Dash is also in the traveling camp, since Wonderbolts seem to travel around for shows, but she can also fly faster than sound and thus isn't ever really that far from home temporally. Since Rarity would likely become somewhat Canterlot focused, it's another reason I think RariTwi is SUPER slept on as a ship in the pony canon. I think RariTwi would be able to understand the large amount of responsibilities they both have that take them away from home and take up time. Definitely my fav ship. I also see the positives of RariDash since both of them are highly characterized by their uniquely high level of ambition, which I think is special and very specific to those two.
i'm with you on SciTwi. sometimes feeling a little like that myself, great difference is i actually got friends and to my knowledge no omnipotent other self in a parallel universe. your analysis on the other Equestria Girls is on point as well. on the pony side i ship Appledash and on the human side Rarijack. it works out quite well.
Personally, I think there could be two types of relationships for Applejack and Rainbow Dash. The first one is romantic, where they live together, possibly married. The second type of relationship could be platonic, a little sad, like they couldn't find any romantic partners in their lives but still choose to be by each other's side until the end of days. This could also apply to Fluttershy and Discord.
For your second scenario, it’s not really sad imo. Maybe they’re both aroace, and so they don’t feel a need for romantic partners or relationships. I know at least AppleJack canonically isn’t in Equestria Girls, but since it’s not exactly the same universe, I don’t discount it as a possibility.
I like to see Fluttershy and Discord as in a QPR! (Queerplatonic relationship) Discord gives HUGE aromantic vibes (there's that one episode where he talks about not understanding/liking romance) And, not only that, but Fluttershy's color palette combined with Discord's color palette is LITERALLY THE QUEERPLATONIC FLAG 💛🩷🤍🩶🖤 Plus... QPRs in fandom is literally the best because it's technically both shipping AND platonic... so ✨ It satisfies both shippers and non-shippers of Fluttercord

I'm a RariTwi but I will always respect TwiDash. Monarch Twilight and pseudo-military celebrity (Wonderbolts) Rainbow Dash are kind of a political powerhouse - which in our world would be terrible, but I can suspend my disbelief for happy pony show.

While I personally don't ship characters, I love seeing what others find enjoyment in. I think Jim Miller's response was the best way to go about the question, and is what I personally would have done if I was in his situation. It leaves the answer open to personal preference, so each ship is a valid as the other. It also acknowledges that this is a fictional world, so it exists in the minds of the fans and the fans have ultimate creative liberty as to what happens in their own personal world.
I personally think all of them just being a big group of friends is the best way for the show to end, but I think these ships are cute and fun! I actually kind of feel happy imagining them together whether its canon or not because it is adorable to think about.
I’m really big on Flutterdash and Rarijack, but rewatching the series with hindsight gives me a new appreciation for Appledash. I just like them all now! and having one ship canon in the main universe and the other canon in the human universe is just the best of both worlds.
I truly appreciate them making both ships canon. Especially since people have stereotypical views of how lesbians or lesbian/sapphic relationships should appear. Often times, people think that there should be a "man" and a "woman" in a gay relationship, meaning that there should be a traditionally masculine partner, and a traditionally feminine partner. I appreciate Appledash because I really see them as both traditionally masculine, and I love that they don't force into that stereotype. I also like the canon that rarity can exist as a queer person, because many people stereotype lesbians/sapphic women as only masc. For these reasons, both ships existing are great for diff reasons.
Whenever I see people talk about gay shipping or masculine female characters, I sometimes get a little confused on what makes something a stereotype or representation. Some could argue that Rarijack consisting of a typical fem and masc duo is a stereotype on how relationships work, but some could also argue Appledash consisting of two masculine characters is a stereotype on that tomboys and lesbians are correlated. In my opinion, either ship is okay since more people seem to relate to it than be offended by it.
I always never thought of them as canon. It could've just been visits by rainbow dash while AJ was doing some chores and considering her age wanted to help her.
I love how you put it in the ‘asking the director’ section. Everyone has different tastes, opinions and viewpoints, and really, the show is just there to be enjoyed. I think everyone should be able to interpret their beloved characters how they want, and I’m glad the director facilitated that with his replies.
I like the idea of AppleDash being canon in the pony universe and Rarijack being canon in the human universe. :) The butch x butch ship of the pony universe is fun and refreshing while the soft x tough ship of the human one is a nice yin/yang trope.
i can get why rarijack wouldn't have worked out long term- there would be no way applejack would move to the city, and the only thing keeping rarity in the country was her friends. assuming twilight took over rule of equestria from the capital, there wouldn't imo be any reason for rarity not to go too - she's the one with vast connections in Canterlot by the end of the series. i probably would have shipped it at one time but as an adult, it feels more believable that AJ and RD would pair up since the places they flourish in and their goals/wants in life don't conflict. in either case both rarijack and fluttercord made me super happy

I love appledash a lot, They are (imo) perfect for each other in many ways, like discussed in the video the writers new this and gave vague hints throughout the series, I also just think they are really cute together. Although I can understand why people don't like them. It is in the end all for good fun, so have fun with ships it is ment to be entertainment after all. Have a good one!
I actually only ever had two ships in the MLP universe: Fluttershy and Discord, and Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich. I guess I struck gold with the finale! When it comes to Applejack ships, I’ve always seen the appeal of both Appledash and Rarijack, even if I never actively shipped either pairing. I’m glad they could each become canon in their own ways though! It’s nice whenever we can see fandom pairings at least nodded to by series creators (I will never forget almost choking when Angel in Fluttershy’s body described Fluttershy as wanting to marry Discord), especially in an episode so important as a series finale.
Although I don't have anything against them being gay, I have a big problem with them being lovers. The point of the show wasn't to show passionate love, it was to show the love that exists between good friends. Think back to the season ! episode sonic rainboom. Rainbow Dash wasn't crying as she did the impossible to save someone she was afraid she would not be able to make clam chowder with during Pinkies weekly orgy's it was because she was scared she was about to lose a good friend. What they did with these two not only betrayed the original intent of the show it was what holywood always does because they don't understand how to portray the love between friends. Remember the lord of the rings; when they tried to portray Sam and Frodo as good friends they failed miserably it just came across as them being gay lovers because friendship love is much harder to portray than passionate love so they got lazy and just made it passionate. I thought this show was better than that and I was really disappointed when they capitulated to the holywood misunderstanding about how friendship love is much different as passionate in the end. if they wanted to do another passionate love I would have put Starlight with Sunburst Starlight clearly loved Sunburst with passion. Enough to enslave her town after he left and broke her heart anyway.

For Equestria Girls, I personally have it in my headcanon that Applejack is into both, Rainbow and Rarity or at least changed. Because in the older EG movies, she was always closer to Rainbow Dash, but in the later specials more with Rarity.
Personally I always preferred Rarijack over Appledash (I never liked it) I never found Appledash appealing as much as Rarijack - through the personality/opinion differences that made them completely perfect for eachother. AJ and Rainbow would be more suited as friends than lovers in my op.
Fun facat: back when I was like- nine or ten, I remember seeing that episode of AppleDash and making a whole story that both Applejack and Rainbowdash lost their families, and thus leaned on each other for support and friendship. I was also raised in a Christian home and had no idea of the LGBTQ+ community due to being sheltered, so I made the story morbid but still without making them a couple. Realizing what actually conspired, it makes much more sense.
Here I have the solution…just make them poly. Either they all date each other or have an agreement to both date apple Jack with no drama. Rarity and Rainbowdash are close and would probably butt heads in the second idea but I feel like they would make it work. Now I might be bias to this idea as I’m poly irl and a huge multi shipper sooooo.
But I also love that both ships are canon or close to in those two different worlds. It also adds to the idea that those characters are slightly different to their counterparts this adds to their characters and is just cute.
Honestly I just like being a multishipper. I don’t see the point in fighting over ships when you can just enjoy them all, or just leave others alone about their ships! I ship most combinations of the main six, plus some side ships (fluttercord my beloved). I’ll ship most anything (just nothing illegal and some ships just give me the ick). I enjoy a lot of the Mane 6 pony ships tbh, even the contradictory ones,. But I never really got into shipping beyond a "Oh, that would make an interesting pairing." Solution: Make them all polyamorous! Everyone gets their ships, lol. And then I don't have to decide which one I like the most.
They arrive together, talking about domestic chores. They live together. They gaze at each other with adoring expressions throughout that whole epilogue episode. In the very last shot you see of them, Dash has her hoof literally resting on AJ's head. No other Mane 6 character does anything intimate like that with any other character. Their relationship is specifically shown to be different to the others. You can ignore it all if you want, but that is as clear a message as the writers can give to the audience without explicitly saying they're a couple. But yeah, you are correct that it's your choice to ignore all that. But you ignoring it doesn't change the fact it happened.

all the ships in this show are so interesting, but i struggle to figure out character dynamics and therefore the dynamic of a ship- i wish there was a diagram or a video to explain every possible pairing within the main six (and maybe a little out of them) so i could see it visually
My person headcanon is that Appledash is a couple and Rarity ends up with Prince Blueblood. Blueblood gets some good development in the comics and didn’t deserve to be written out of the story and him ultimately ending up with Rarity would make her Princess Rarity, which would be a nice reference to G3.
Jim said that on Twitter because he preferred it that way, but the producers actually did want to confirm both AppleDash and FlutterCord. He said this later on in his EqD interview: "You know, I personally didn't really want to confirm any relationships in that last episode but I was outvoted by people who are well above my pay grade, so they thought it would be a nice way to wrap things up in a bow. That's fine. I brought up the point that by saying these two characters are in a relationship you're invalidating of all the people who think that these they should be with other characters or whatever but you know sometimes they just have to make a decision and say this is what we're gonna do and you have to abide by that, but yeah I when season nine ended I got death threats and stuff too for sure not just because of that but because of a lot of stuff in this show." (...) "Yeah we tried to keep it in a way that, sort of like, you know, it could be a little bit ambiguous, it's not as ambiguous as maybe I would like it to be but you know you do it if you can." (...) "Yeah like they wanted to hint that Fluttershy and Discord were together and, well, hey man it was the end of the show so why not make a couple really bold hail marys, I can understand where their heads were at and why they were like let's just do it, let's just go for it."

I think MLP ship debate is always gonna be leagues above other shipping wars in other fandoms for one reason: in MLP, almost all ships make sense, especially amongst the Mane 6. No matter which way you pair them, the dynamic is either interesting, cute, or at the very least funny. Compare that with something like, say, the shipping in the Hellaverse fandom, where they range from canon to 'oh god why would you think that would work?!', in both a crackship AND a problematic ship kind of way.
This show was amazing!! In college this was my happiness to see. Loved the songs and story writing for the character development. I also love pinkie pie :D this vid was lovely :) i always loved rarijack :) and i always liked flutterdash. im happy the writers let it be to the viewers:) Happy that in pony world we have pony universe one ship and the human universe of equestria girls another ship :) This is a beautiful fictional universe and multi universe now and im happy for My Little Pony Friendship is magic and Equestria girls :). I love Twilight and starlight in pony verse, but enjoy Science Twilight and Sunset in the Equestria girls universe.

For those who don’t know if you bathe too often it’s strips your natural oils away and gives you dry, itchy and ashy skin. Same goes for taking hot showers. But maybe Rarity uses a LOT of moisturizer I don’t know 🤷♀️
I'm on two minds about leaving canon "open to interpretation". On one hand, letting the viewers decide for too much themselves can risk leaving a work being reduced to concepts where nothing is really solid and there's no story in the first place. But on the other hand, the romantic relationships of the Mane 6 has never been a primary point of their characters so leaving that open (like AppleDash) or closed (CheesePie) is fine either way. While I recognize that shipping wars can easily get toxic, I don't think there are no points where there's no room for discussion and it all boils down to taste, at least for canon. AppleDash and RariJack are ships that were both possible regardless of which is arguably more, "sensible" so that really did boil down to taste. In real life, sometimes a real couple forms over another not because the pair was "better compatible" but simply because luck based circumstances gave experiences that solidified one over the other. However ships like Shining cheating with Chrysalis have problems that go farther than poor basis in canon and really should stay in the realm of either crackfics or fan based AUs that change character traits and history to an extent.
Little baby gay (I didn’t even know I was gay actually lol) 14 year old me shipped rarijack and I still do (in equestria girls) but when I say rainbow dash and applejack in the finale, I was converted instantly.
I like that the creators kept it open to interpretation as a means to keep everyone happy. If you ask me, I just see Rainbow and AJ as roomates because to me, they just have that "best friends engage with friendly competition with each other* sort of vibes. I always got that message from the show, even now as im rewatching the series as an adult. Now, before anyone says anything, I'm not a RariJack shipper, but I'm not an AppleDash shipper either. I simply just view them all as great friends and theres nothing more than that. I also like having FlutterCord open to interpretation because while i dont think its a bad ship, im more confused about how... the reproductive side works... to be honest... but if you like the ship, then feel free. This is just my opinion on things

Yes! It’s so rare to get a butch x butch or masc x masc pairing! So often if it’s not “girl lesbian x boy lesbian” it’s two femmes or two “girl lesbians” and of course there’s nothing wrong with either of those pairings, it’s just important for there to be a wide range of representation! Same thing goes for relationships between two guys where there’s often a more femme one which makes it more digestible to audiences expecting heteronormativity.

as someone that ships rarijack and appledash. I think appledash is very important because it shows that you dont need to have a fem and masc person to be a romantic relationship, you can have two masculine people (in this case ponies) or two feminine people, or even two androgs, or a combo of any of that. You dont need a mother figure or a father figure, relationships dont need to stick to those heteronormative roles. Even straight couples dont have to have fem and masc, and feminine man and masculine woman should also be more normalized. As much as I love rarijack, I do appreciate appledash for showing that.
I feel like the Pony Appledash/ Human Rarijack Ship situation is the perfect example of how the interdimensional parallel characters are, in fact, separate characters, appropriately informed by their home dimensions.
I mean, we have that one adorable EqG short where Applejack is making a RUclips video about redoing Rarity's studio- it goes a bit awry, but she's totally committed to making this video.
Meanwhile, if phones hit Equestria in G4, could you imagine how hard it would be to convince Applejack to carry around a mobile device full time like that? (Even if it were apple brand lol)
Applejack got to know the other girls- and thus a lot of Friendship lessons at a younger age, and had less pressure to take on financial/guardianship responsibilities because of human Apple Family circumstances.
Human AJ has more in common with human Rarity, and stands to benefit less from Rainbow Dash's support network than Pony Applejack. Horse AJ would likely thrive around the pony-specific Military-lite Wonderbolts and would surely come to appreciate being included in RD's family unit without having to take responsibility all the damn time. (I assume AJ became matriarch of the broader Apple Family diaspora)
Rarity and Pinkie don't change too much, but Rainbow seems to be more grounded (ha) without discovering the gift of the legendary Rainboom at a young age, and humble when she does get the Speed Force.

Fluttershy is just so much happier- she probably had bullying, yes, but it wasn't based on a perceived disability that was associated with repeated, involuntary fits of skydiving.
She lacks the extreme degree of PTSD of pony Fluttershy, so we can kinda see a more natural state of flutterbutter shyness.
Which is still very shy.
But poor Twilight- she's so clearly designed for Magic, but stuck in a magicless world. Incomplete as a person. She's just a walking metaphor for "Friendship is Magic" in that sense- the magic friendship princess has nothing without those three things. (Which kinda feels wrong to say, but her situation is kinda messed up in itself- imagine finding out you're the mortal mirror version of an immortal demigod who's career trajectory involves talking over an eternal reign over a mystical kingdom and casually dribbling the Sun, with a Dragon at your side)
Pony Twilight actually had friends- Lemon Hearts, Lyra and the others, two brothers as well as real magic.

I also think another reason RariJack works in EQG and not in pony is that Rarity in pony is a CEO with a huge fashion empire and probably has to travel a lot, whereas Applejack is very much a homebody in a lot of ways. Rainbow Dash is also in the traveling camp, since Wonderbolts seem to travel around for shows, but she can also fly faster than sound and thus isn't ever really that far from home temporally. Since Rarity would likely become somewhat Canterlot focused, it's another reason I think RariTwi is SUPER slept on as a ship in the pony canon. I think RariTwi would be able to understand the large amount of responsibilities they both have that take them away from home and take up time. Definitely my fav ship. I also see the positives of RariDash since both of them are highly characterized by their uniquely high level of ambition, which I think is special and very specific to those two.

i'm with you on SciTwi. sometimes feeling a little like that myself, great difference is i actually got friends and to my knowledge no omnipotent other self in a parallel universe. your analysis on the other Equestria Girls is on point as well. on the pony side i ship Appledash and on the human side Rarijack. it works out quite well.
Personally, I think there could be two types of relationships for Applejack and Rainbow Dash. The first one is romantic, where they live together, possibly married. The second type of relationship could be platonic, a little sad, like they couldn't find any romantic partners in their lives but still choose to be by each other's side until the end of days. This could also apply to Fluttershy and Discord.
For your second scenario, it’s not really sad imo. Maybe they’re both aroace, and so they don’t feel a need for romantic partners or relationships. I know at least AppleJack canonically isn’t in Equestria Girls, but since it’s not exactly the same universe, I don’t discount it as a possibility.

I think Jim Miller's response was the best way to go about the question, and is what I personally would have done if I was in his situation. It leaves the answer open to personal preference, so each ship is a valid as the other. It also acknowledges that this is a fictional world, so it exists in the minds of the fans and the fans have ultimate creative liberty as to what happens in their own personal world.
I personally think all of them just being a big group of friends is the best way for the show to end, but I think these ships are cute and fun! I actually kind of feel happy imagining them together whether its canon or not because it is adorable to think about.

I’m really big on Flutterdash and Rarijack, but rewatching the series with hindsight gives me a new appreciation for Appledash. I just like them all now! and having one ship canon in the main universe and the other canon in the human universe is just the best of both worlds.
I truly appreciate them making both ships canon. Especially since people have stereotypical views of how lesbians or lesbian/sapphic relationships should appear. Often times, people think that there should be a "man" and a "woman" in a gay relationship, meaning that there should be a traditionally masculine partner, and a traditionally feminine partner. I appreciate Appledash because I really see them as both traditionally masculine, and I love that they don't force into that stereotype. I also like the canon that rarity can exist as a queer person, because many people stereotype lesbians/sapphic women as only masc. For these reasons, both ships existing are great for diff reasons.
Whenever I see people talk about gay shipping or masculine female characters, I sometimes get a little confused on what makes something a stereotype or representation. Some could argue that Rarijack consisting of a typical fem and masc duo is a stereotype on how relationships work, but some could also argue Appledash consisting of two masculine characters is a stereotype on that tomboys and lesbians are correlated. In my opinion, either ship is okay since more people seem to relate to it than be offended by it.

i can get why rarijack wouldn't have worked out long term- there would be no way applejack would move to the city, and the only thing keeping rarity in the country was her friends. assuming twilight took over rule of equestria from the capital, there wouldn't imo be any reason for rarity not to go too - she's the one with vast connections in Canterlot by the end of the series. i probably would have shipped it at one time but as an adult, it feels more believable that AJ and RD would pair up since the places they flourish in and their goals/wants in life don't conflict.

I actually only ever had two ships in the MLP universe: Fluttershy and Discord, and Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich. I guess I struck gold with the finale! When it comes to Applejack ships, I’ve always seen the appeal of both Appledash and Rarijack, even if I never actively shipped either pairing. I’m glad they could each become canon in their own ways though! It’s nice whenever we can see fandom pairings at least nodded to by series creators (I will never forget almost choking when Angel in Fluttershy’s body described Fluttershy as wanting to marry Discord), especially in an episode so important as a series finale.
Although I don't have anything against them being gay, I have a big problem with them being lovers. The point of the show wasn't to show passionate love, it was to show the love that exists between good friends. Think back to the season ! episode sonic rainboom. Rainbow Dash wasn't crying as she did the impossible to save someone she was afraid she would not be able to make clam chowder with during Pinkies weekly orgy's it was because she was scared she was about to lose a good friend. What they did with these two not only betrayed the original intent of the show it was what holywood always does because they don't understand how to portray the love between friends. Remember the lord of the rings; when they tried to portray Sam and Frodo as good friends they failed miserably it just came across as them being gay lovers because friendship love is much harder to portray than passionate love so they got lazy and just made it passionate. I thought this show was better than that and I was really disappointed when they capitulated to the holywood misunderstanding about how friendship love is much different as passionate in the end. if they wanted to do another passionate love I would have put Starlight with Sunburst Starlight clearly loved Sunburst with passion. Enough to enslave her town after he left and broke her heart anyway.
Screw shipping wars, the mane six all love eachother and they’re one big poly couple and all their canon romantic partners can be apart of it too.

For Equestria Girls, I personally have it in my headcanon that Applejack is into both, Rainbow and Rarity or at least changed. Because in the older EG movies, she was always closer to Rainbow Dash, but in the later specials more with Rarity.

Fun facat: back when I was like- nine or ten, I remember seeing that episode of AppleDash and making a whole story that both Applejack and Rainbowdash lost their families, and thus leaned on each other for support and friendship. I was also raised in a Christian home and had no idea of the LGBTQ+ community due to being sheltered, so I made the story morbid but still without making them a couple. Realizing what actually conspired, it makes much more sense.

Here I have the solution…just make them poly. Either they all date each other or have an agreement to both date apple Jack with no drama. Rarity and Rainbowdash are close and would probably butt heads in the second idea but I feel like they would make it work. Now I might be bias to this idea as I’m poly irl and a huge multi shipper sooooo.
But I also love that both ships are canon or close to in those two different worlds. It also adds to the idea that those characters are slightly different to their counterparts this adds to their characters and is just cute.
The fact that nobody quit yet the voices still sounded great throughout a whole decade is actually insane.

They arrive together, talking about domestic chores. They live together. They gaze at each other with adoring expressions throughout that whole epilogue episode. In the very last shot you see of them, Dash has her hoof literally resting on AJ's head. No other Mane 6 character does anything intimate like that with any other character. Their relationship is specifically shown to be different to the others. You can ignore it all if you want, but that is as clear a message as the writers can give to the audience without explicitly saying they're a couple. But yeah, you are correct that it's your choice to ignore all that. But you ignoring it doesn't change the fact it happened.

all the ships in this show are so interesting, but i struggle to figure out character dynamics and therefore the dynamic of a ship- i wish there was a diagram or a video to explain every possible pairing within the main six (and maybe a little out of them) so i could see it visually
My person headcanon is that Appledash is a couple and Rarity ends up with Prince Blueblood. Blueblood gets some good development in the comics and didn’t deserve to be written out of the story and him ultimately ending up with Rarity would make her Princess Rarity, which would be a nice reference to G3.

Jim said that on Twitter because he preferred it that way, but the producers actually did want to confirm both AppleDash and FlutterCord. He said this later on in his EqD interview:
"You know, I personally didn't really want to confirm any relationships in that last episode but I was outvoted by people who are well above my pay grade, so they thought it would be a nice way to wrap things up in a bow. That's fine. I brought up the point that by saying these two characters are in a relationship you're invalidating of all the people who think that these they should be with other characters or whatever but you know sometimes they just have to make a decision and say this is what we're gonna do and you have to abide by that, but yeah I when season nine ended I got death threats and stuff too for sure not just because of that but because of a lot of stuff in this show."

I think MLP ship debate is always gonna be leagues above other shipping wars in other fandoms for one reason: in MLP, almost all ships make sense, especially amongst the Mane 6. No matter which way you pair them, the dynamic is either interesting, cute, or at the very least funny. Compare that with something like, say, the shipping in the Hellaverse fandom, where they range from canon to 'oh god why would you think that would work?!', in both a crackship AND a problematic ship kind of way.

For those who don’t know if you bathe too often it’s strips your natural oils away and gives you dry, itchy and ashy skin. Same goes for taking hot showers.
But maybe Rarity uses a LOT of moisturizer I don’t know 🤷♀️

I'm on two minds about leaving canon "open to interpretation". On one hand, letting the viewers decide for too much themselves can risk leaving a work being reduced to concepts where nothing is really solid and there's no story in the first place. But on the other hand, the romantic relationships of the Mane 6 has never been a primary point of their characters so leaving that open (like AppleDash) or closed (CheesePie) is fine either way.
While I recognize that shipping wars can easily get toxic, I don't think there are no points where there's no room for discussion and it all boils down to taste, at least for canon. AppleDash and RariJack are ships that were both possible regardless of which is arguably more, "sensible" so that really did boil down to taste. In real life, sometimes a real couple forms over another not because the pair was "better compatible" but simply because luck based circumstances gave experiences that solidified one over the other. However ships like Shining cheating with Chrysalis have problems that go farther than poor basis in canon and really should stay in the realm of either crackfics or fan based AUs that change character traits and history to an extent.
Little baby gay (I didn’t even know I was gay actually lol) 14 year old me shipped rarijack and I still do (in equestria girls) but when I say rainbow dash and applejack in the finale, I was converted instantly.

I like that the creators kept it open to interpretation as a means to keep everyone happy. If you ask me, I just see Rainbow and AJ as roomates because to me, they just have that "best friends engage with friendly competition with each other* sort of vibes. I always got that message from the show, even now as im rewatching the series as an adult. Now, before anyone says anything, I'm not a RariJack shipper, but I'm not an AppleDash shipper either. I simply just view them all as great friends and theres nothing more than that. I also like having FlutterCord open to interpretation because while i dont think its a bad ship, im more confused about how... the reproductive side works... to be honest... but if you like the ship, then feel free. This is just my opinion on things
