- Go through the roller coaster of emotions in the Barry Trotz era of the Caps. Congrats to the Capitals on their Stanley Cup victory this year, they deserve it.

You can see they would rather die on the ice then experience another disapointment again. From the moment they got over Columbus they only had one thing on their mind and that was the cup, step by step. For me this is one of the greatest stories in hockey in the past decades. I have watched the team struggle in playoffs in the past 4 or more years and what we saw this spring is something I will never forget. Thank you for the memories Caps.
You watch ovi and Backstrom and holtby and every year, their reaction gets worse. After the Pittsburgh series in 2017, the Caps really thought they were about to do it, presidents trophy, came back from a 3-1 deficit against the pens. On home ice for game 7 and then they got shut out. You saw ovis interview after, he didn’t think he’d ever make it past the second round. Backstrom reportedly was crying after the game, his dad trying to consol him. And watching all of their interviews, it looked like they were at a funeral. I’m glad they were able to do it this year. Not for me, for them
I also have to admit I have lost faith in Holtby during the regular season and wanted him to be traded. But he proved me wrong and made me look like a fool. I did not see this comeback coming but the more happy I´m that it happened. His save against Vegas was the last strike that really made me believe this is the year and nothing could change it.
The 2017 game 7 against Pittsburgh was probably the biggest heartbreak I've ever experienced as a sports fan, I really thought that was going to be our year. But after they came back from down 0-2 against Columbus I knew there was something different about last years' team. They were playing under fire the whole year, nobody was taking them seriously all year as cup contenders, the window had closed, should've traded Ovi/Backstrom/Holtby... that playoff run was all inspired by the motivation from the previous playoff failures and it was beautiful. Really the hockey version of the 2011 Mavs if you think about it.
Agree. I Love when teams like this win.. The teams who have been through the most pain, and who deserve it the most from just pure hard work & determination. Not just Talent.. It makes it so much more special.. Unlike the Spoiled teams like Pittsburgh who always get the best fuckin players in the world all on one team some how. One Era they got Lemieux and Jagr for 15 years! Next Era they got Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and the best damn goalie in the league Fleury.. Ridiculous.

I admit I’m not a Caps fan. For a while, I didn’t think too much of Ovie. But I had my head up my ass because he didn’t play for the team I root for. His expression when Bettman gave him the Cup says it all. He deserves it. Congratulations, Alex.
Zack Parker I completely agree, I’m glad you enjoyed. You weren’t alone in thinking that. Lots of fans didn’t think Ovi had what it takes to win a cup. They didn’t think he was a leader. It doesn’t help that the Canadian analysts (cherry, milbury) are very critical of him. I don’t think anyone is saying that anymore.

Caps aren't my favourite team in the league but what a journey it was for you guys, the team and the city deserved it, what a great smile on Ovi's face, also screw the Penguins

@@lelouchvibritannia4028 I agree that was the case before, but I'd say now it's Ovi to Backy because of their long shared history (11 years playing together and suffering in the postseason), and Backy played with a broken hand, meaning Ovi had to help him hold the Cup up.

As a pens fan, this is a great video. You can’t say you’re a hockey fan if you’re not proud of the caps for winning the cup this past season. Idk if it was the pain and determination that pushed them to win this, but they fought harder than anyone else and clearly deserved it more than Columbus, Pittsburgh, Tampa and Vegas.
After Washington beat us in overtime, I was a little disappointed. But not at all bitter. If it had to be any team to end our reign, I'm glad it was them and not the Flyers. Philly would have just destroyed their city and ate horse crap again like they did when the Eagles won.

seeing us lose in 2015 had me heartbroken but i’ve stuck with the caps and beloved in them knowing they could do it and when they did it elt so good to rub it in the penguin fans faces
I'm swedish and I don't really have any favorite NHL team but, seeing Ovechkin and Bäckström lifting that cup with the Capitals made me teary eyed. Loved it!

Ovechkin is one of the greatest all around hockey players of all time. Saying that not as a Caps fan, just been watching him since he started and every single goal he scores brings him the same energy and passion. Caps just made the cup more valuable because it's been held by greats like them.

But seriously, I've never been happier to see an in-division team win the Cup. Ovi is hockey personified and I'm glad he finally got the hardware after all the work he's put in. Not to mention Backstrom is one of the most criminally underrated playmaking centers of all time.

As a Penguins fan I was extremely happy for the Capitals' fan base after this. All those years we gave it to them, and they handled it gracefully. They didn't throw beer and bracelets on the ice like fans in Philadelphia did.
I do, however, agree word-for-word with what you said in your second paragraph.
In the aftermath of this historic victory, I've read and heard the haters say, "They won't win another". Truth is, after cheering for the Caps since my first hockey game in 1989, I'm fine with only 1. I don't care because it's easily the hardest trophy to win in all of professional sports. The Capitals have proven that over the years by having the best team in the regular season and losing early in the playoffs for YEARS. This year they literally slayed all those playoff demons in one postseason. Tortorella, the Lightning, Crosby, Letang, the Penguins, losing Game 7s, blowing late leads, unlucky bounces, 2nd round, and Marc Andre f**king Fleury. As much heartache as all Caps fans have experienced over the years, now we can always have this one to remember forever. Hockey just got less stressful. #ALLCAPS

What I love about it was that it looks as tho, once he touched it, he pretty much had control on it. It didn't bounce around or squirt free. It hit his hand & stick & then ice & that was it. Done.

People that were complaining about the how the seeds work in the playoffs all I kept saying was “you gotta beat the best to be the best” and finally the capitals beat the penguins and went on to win the cup.
Darian Canada Exactly man, you can complain all you want but that’s not gonna change anything. I think it’s kind of cool because it forces you to beat your division rivals and really makes the playoffs more rivalry based. We only played PIT once before they changed it and now we got 3 amazing series in a row

I have been a Loyal Capitals fan since 1978. This team deserved to win. Over the years and countless disappointing losses in series we led 2-0,3-1 including the 4 OT loss to the Islanders I continued to follow this team. I dreamed of the day they would accomplish the ultimate prize! This team for this post season seemed more driven! Backstrom and Ovechkin finally got recognized for the great players they have always been since day one of them working together to accomplish the Ultimate Prize THE STANLEY CUP! We as loyal fans deserved this Magic Season and have been rewarded! Thank you Caps ! I have watched this video over and over and will continue to enjoy and Savor this GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT!! Let's go Caps!!!

Easily one of the most emotional couple of months of my life. I legit freaked out and cried like ten times during the whole thing and it lost my shit in that final game. Amazing amazing memories

I rooted for the caps all the playoffs in 2018 as a habs fan. All Ive wanted that year was seeing the caps lift the cup and Ovi lifting it. It happened ! Congrats caps ! Well deserved !
Sweetest Stanley Cup win in the history, by far. The passion was incredinble, the hunger, the years long suffering was finally rewarded. Greatest moments in sports history!
It was always mental with this team, they always have had the talent to get it done and the past 3 years the Pens and Caps have been the best teams in the league. When they got over the Pittsburgh hurdle it was inevitable and I'm telling you now, they're going to win it again. The only thing stopping them from going back to back are injuries. There isn't a better top 6 in hockey, they have all the young talent in the world and their blue line is strong. Factor in Holtby and you have a team that can win the cup again.

The 2017-18 Capitals very much reminded me of the 2006 Indianapolis Colts. Those two teams were known for their generational superstar for a decade (Ovechkin and Peyton Manning) and had spectacular regular seasons year after year with high expectations for the playoffs, only to fall short in painful fashion each time. Then the year after their "window" was slammed shut, they regress a little bit, but they go on an unlikely run to finally win their long awaited championship.
Not to mention, they each finally defeated their longtime adversaries in a playoff round to get their championship. Peyton finally beat Brady to get to and win Super Bowl XLI and Ovechkin finally beat Crosby on his way to lifting the Stanley Cup.
I can't stop watching it. What a performance. Hats off to my CAPS. I love it.

I was at game 6 against TB. There was a different kind of energy in the arena that night, the moment that Chandler Stevenson chased down that icing which led to the second goal I knew the cup was for the caps.

Pens fan here. I'm supposed to root against the Caps, especially since they were against Fleury, but this series was just too GR8. I was cheering for one of the best to ever hit the ice to finally get his due. Hopefully things get back to normal soon and he can break the "Great Ones" record.
