Her greatness is the contradiction of being “larger than life” while simultaneously being completely honest and “down to earth”. Complete honesty is a good life lesson.
The last great raconteur of Broadway. Who on Earth has these great stories, and is so quick, engaging, and funny? Even later on at age 88 on this show she was hysterical.
I absolutely Love this woman. Real talent invites everyone to the table look at Elaine. Look at Judy. Everyone has an opinion they have to give pronouncements about it. Gosh, I just love Elaine Stritch. She looks great on this. I first found her on Twos Company. she and Donald Sinden were just fab. I hope I get to meet her when the day comes when God takes me.
The story of Ethel Merman showing up ...2nd row seats...for Elaine's opening night in Call Me Madame, after understudying her for @2 years is hilarious...."Bye"! lmffao
Elaine Stritch is not her name. I came up with that name when I wrote a song that I gave to a singer before she was well known. Without the rights to the song, they took the name I created and my song, and called it their own.
She won FIVE Tony Awards! 🤯 I guess you’ve never seen her show ‘At Liberty’? I’m guessing you’ve never been floored by her rendition of ‘Ladies Who Lunch’? Eliane is an elderly woman here, having won multiple awards and accolades, had people like Noel Coward write roles for her and at this point in her successful life - paid her dues. She doesn’t seem conceited to me, just confident and direct - with no time to waste on surface chatter. She is very intense, I’m not even sure I’m a fan of that particular type of energy, but to call her conceited just misses her spirit entirely. This is ‘Theater Talk’ and they take their beloved industry and craft very seriously.
I hope some day you can get to a point where you don't have to shrink to feel accepted. There is a difference between healthy self-confidence and arrogance, it's a shame you can't see Elaine for who she was.
Her greatness is the contradiction of being “larger than life” while simultaneously being completely honest and “down to earth”. Complete honesty is a good life lesson.
She is so correct about talent. It attacts sabotage, back-stabbing, envy, jealousy... it also devours your life.

Elaine's great friend, Barbara Cook...columnist Liz Smith were also among the last of those "broads".

Love Elaine. He is my therapy and more

I sure miss her, she was a real dame!!

I miss her.
Rip Elaine!!
Talent creates jealousy in others who don’t have it , who are suddenly experts in your field.
Her hair is so lovely... she is such a loss
Her lovely hair is a wig.

Critic John Simon on "Sail Away" cackled: "Elaine Stritch plays the male lead."
That’s coffee !!!
A wise man once said, "novelty is not an artistic value." The trend-seeking emphasis in New York is highly destructive to art.
I agree Edward Albee is not easy to digest …
I wonder did she ever do Gypsy ... she would have made a great Moma Rose
She once sang Rose's Turn but never did a production of Gypsy, I think she might have struggled vocally with it
I wonder if she knew who JAMES LEVINE REALLY WAS….
This was long ago…
She sounds arrogant and conceited.

Exactly.

@ah7910 5 nominations but only 1 win, which is frankly disgusting
She is far from it. She was very gracious.
