@@Zilong09 I hear yea. My main issue is currently that I don't play enough games to be worth it to keep getting more. Where is the last time we got a game because we already played everything we currently own? I honestly can't remember. To be fair, I feel like if you can try games and sell them back or trade those that do not stick with you or your group, it's still a "healthy" way to go about it. I can say that this is not me tho. 😅 Also, anyone with the disposable income should be able to do w/e they want with their money, but let's be real here, most of us do not have infinite disposable income. Thanks for sharing your situation. It's great to see we ain't alone in that struggle that is getting more and more board games when we should definitely not always ;) Stay strong!
Great video and great recommendation. Personnaly, I am also turning away from the FOMO on new games and look back at classic games I want to try. Concordia and Hansa Teutonica are my next game I will get.
Reminds me of Gencon '18, where i demoed a dozen games for Asmodee, and the actual game to look for was "Dino Dunk!" by some smaller indy, and not the vast majority of stuff being peddled as the next big deal by bigger publishers.
I’ve felt very underwhelmed recently on new games being released. Not sure why. Nothing that I have to have. Even turned down backing Planet Unknown, which I thought I’d back for sure.
I’m 💯 with you in this. I buy those well established games at good prices. Happy days. Ps: we played RA last night for the first time! I won. I finally got to play the well renowned Ra, and loved it. Cheers!
I love how every boardgaming channel has at least a couple of GenCon vids while in reality it practically concerns less than 1% of the gamers that will attend. Completely ridiculous.
The whole board gaming social media and review sphere is absolute nonsense. So many people have picked up their recording devices and it's so hard to tell who has any idea what they're talking about when it comes to their reviews on a game, especially since many of them subscribe to peddling the crowd funded games that haven't proved official if they're any good. You just see these random faces on the KS pages, people I never heard about being used as professional opinions on a game's good design. Games that will take years to be shipped out before the masses actually play test it.
I get that you advice against buying at a 10% markup, but I struggle to understand the point of "Don't buy the unknown". Like, weren't Ark Nova, Res Arcana and the other games you mention all unknown at some point? We wouldn't have them if everyone stuck with "the known", although that becomes a hen-egg-problem at this point :P I mean, yeah, the conservative way is to spend your money on already known to be well-received games rather than gamble on a new one that yet has to prove itself, but it sure is fun as hell to give a new game a chance and get a gem this way. Regarding it is a hobby after all (so I assume you have money to spend on it or rather the money spent won't hurt at any point), I think a gamble here and there is a fun way to experience new games and as a community it will help to find those gems aswell (plus figuring out the not so gemmy games I guess :P )
And if any of these Gen Con games do end up being great, fear not. You will still be able to get them in 6 months when the hype train has long since left the station.
FINALLY someone giving Binho some love!!!! Knew I loved ya Liege! Going to my first con this year and couldn’t be more excited. I’m not goin gift new games though. Im going with the hope that I’ll learn how to play some of the games I’ve already got. We will see if I can avoid the fomo!
Another thing to consider: Play what you already have and don't get more.
Word!
Seriously. I have 20 games on my pile of shame. No, not a shelf of shame because there's no room for them... They just pile on top of each other.

This list works for all kickstarters FOMO campaigns as well
Shout out for Binho! My local store randomly got this in stock and it's a blast.
Great video and a wonderful set of recommendations.
I’ve transported my Crokinole board many times
Sky Team was CRAZY at GenCon
Strong video as always!!

Every single year, most conventions unfortunately
I would love to see a gen con/essen look back style video
I agree with the title, I have looked at gencon lists and nothing interests me that is going to be on sale at gencon that we know of.
Great video, agree Ra is great. Also agree that most games can be found later at retail.
i usually average one Kickstarter pledge per year but this year i did 5. im tapped out on hype for a while 🥵
And even if you don't like Ra, at least you can treat it like a puzzle: Trying to get it all back in the box with no lid lift.
A really good retail list!

I love Res Arcana. Gotto try Gosu X.
RA Deluxe 100%
One word: Lorcana!

Strange video
Scalpers are......
Save Youre money for the children!
Dude makes a video saying skip gencon when most people buy their tickets months in advance. Put the haterade down and have a good time.
