KDNN Island 98.5 Honolulu, launched in 1999 after dropping it’s Classic Hits format.
They would flip to its current format of “Island Music,” which targets young adults with a mix of Contemporary Hawaiian hits, Jamaican Reggae and local Jawaiian music. Jawaiian is a style of Hawaiian Raggae that has become popular especially among ethnic groups and races that have been historically oppressed, such as Pacific Islanders, and Australian Aborigines.
KDNN is one of Honolulu's FM stations whose format is geared toward native Hawaiians. HI-93 KQMQ, FM 100 KCCN, and Hawaiian 105 KINE also target local Hawaiians.
