My luck is to be from Sweden, and had the chance to work in many areas in the mountains. My first meeting with the native Same people was with the family Kråik - I was a privilege to have a coffee with him. Ulla has been one of my favorite Same singer. Thank you for this song!

Beautiful and enchanting song and video, what a great precious diamond. The artist Ulla Pirttijärvi is a native-born Laplander and a wife of a reindeer herder. She is also a vocalist in a band called Ulda. Btw, this traditional Sami singing style is called joik. I'm from Finland, but however, Finnish and Sami speakers are not able to understand each other's speech. But traditionally joiks have no lyrics at all, it's more like chanting.
Such an empty, yet stunning landscape. This music echoes the loneliness some may feel living there. I can see why they have such a deep connection with their dogs and reindeer. I am Swedish and sometimes feel that empty landscape in my soul. And I adore animals.

All I was told by a Finland native on youtube is the lullaby is about singing a baby to sleep in a cradle blown by the wind. For several days I read about your customs & beautiful reindeer herders, not knowing that Ulla is married to a reindeer herder herself. Thank you so much for teaching me more about your culture & Ulla. ♥ Ambriel

I personally can't decide which of her songs I find best, perhaps this one, or "Mattarahku Askai" from the album with the same name. Ulla sings like an Angel. If you're into this kind of music, I'd be happy to exchange recommendations. :-)
