    That's pretty fancy. Where do you get that stuff? Couldn't you just sandwich your plastic with wood? Your not taking it down unless your replacing your plastic? Could you use clear 4 mil? Vapor barrier. Just thinking that things are getting hard to find. Need to improvise

    Greenhouses can be made from cow panels and tie wrapped together but a bit harder to fasten plastic over it. Screws with flex tape over the screws into wood on inside can work. Sections of plastic such as 6 to 10 mil can be taped together with about a one or two inch crack so that tape on outside meets the tape on inside back to back.

    Just a heads up - blades for Aluminum are available in most common rotary saw blade sizes (7.25, 10, 12"). They do better and last longer than most regular wood blades.

    My greenhouse kit 30' x 36' didn't come with a ridge pole and I didn't think to put one in. I awoke one morning after a big downpour to find the greenhouse totaled! $40 worth of tubing could have saved me thousands of dollars and many days of work.

    any solutions for the wear and tear on the plastic where you take the wiggle wire on and off? thinking bout sliding it over. maybe a strip of tape along the channel?

    Unfortunately here in NZ we don't have access like North America to 'channel locks and 'wiggle wire' or if we do its prohibitly so expensive, so I've made my own modifying a common building product here in a galv channel and by bending 2.5mm high tensile fencing wire as the 'riggley wire' A lot of work but worth it compared to other systems available here. It works, my timber frame gothic arch greenhouse has it fixing poly on and it's been 10 months, so far so good!

    I put a Bellow in my Greenhouse, so the blower only runs for 15 minutes on and it’s off for 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Just used a square piece of scrap over the tube, and tapes 3 sides. I also use waffle head screws so less air leaks out and my 2 layers go on the same time for small greenhouses. I was able to do 11x22 feet in town on the back of my garage instead of half that size, by just using poly film instead of polycarbonate.

      I think he's using a regular saw blade, albiet carbide tipped, which will work, but they do make nonferrous (aluminum, copper, brass) rotary saw blades in the common sizes (7.25, 10, 12") Theres an Oshlun 7.25" nonferrous blade on Amazon for $27, that gets excellent reviews.

    I work on this farm we build 4 300 ft long 25 ft high high tunnels made in italy and they had this weird poly lock on it which was channel lock and two pieces of plastic, one small piece that went inside a larger piece, which locked in the plastic to the channel lock. It fucking sucked, breaks all the time because you need to hammer it in, would rip the plastic easily and does not hold in the plastic like wiggle wire does.

    I would collect aluminum shavings from cuts/drills and isolate them from the environment - aluminum is a neurotoxin. You probably won't notice much effect, but it is not good for the environment in the long run.

    I already put up my double poly last week. Should the corner poly go up in to the same channel lock with the main poly for the whole greenhouse? I’m going to have to go back and redo this. I saw that gap in the corners and I was scratching my head about that. I just continued watching… it sounds like you layer in up to three wiggle wires in to one channel lock …

    First rate Sir! As an engineer, I noticed that there are NO diagonal components to your framing. You can greatly strengthen your structure greatly by adding a few diagonal unistrut or even wood strips on the inside surface of your frame bows, say, going from near the peak to near the existing head-high longitudinal crossing 3 or 4 frames. Instead of fasteners you can even just lash them diagonal to bow frame where they cross with paracord. It will withstand wind load much better. Wont need many. Look up bow shed construction for example. If it was a house, the plywood sheathing acts as the diagonal torsion element.
    Cheers, Chuck in Florida.

    • @charleselertii6187
      @charleselertii6187 2 года назад +1

      Diagonals in framing really help resist "racking" of the frame structure from wind or other load. Simple and cheap. Chuck.

    • @charleselertii6187
      @charleselertii6187 2 года назад

      If you can direct me your business email, I can provide a sketch of what I am talking about with installing the diagonal bracing inside the structure. It will really take a lot of load off of your fastener too. I like the paracord square lashing method as the best. No detriment to intehrity

    • @charleselertii6187
      @charleselertii6187 2 года назад

      Your structure is threatened by wind loading on the end walls when you install them, in my opinion. Regards, Chuck.

      Usually greenhouses come with those diagonals, both of mine did, makes it very stable in high winds or snow loads.

    I just want to add one thing. Don't align the channels very close to each other. Leave a tiny gap between them, around 2-3 millimetres. Aluminium will expand and retract. If you don't leave this gap they will push each other apart. The force is unbelievable. It will break the screws.

    I just use gorilla tape at the end hoops and cross lines like a caterpillar tunnel. I live in a very windy area of the southern Oregon coast and take down everything for the winters as we get 80 mph winter storms. All summer we get gusts to 40 plus. Haven't had to mess with the tape once this year on 5 hoop houses. This being said wiggle wire is better just a lot more work for me
