Don’t base your whole identity around poker. Treat it as a cerebral hobby that has its good days and bad days. Have other activities going on that make you feel good about yourself or that you at least have the potential to make you feel better about yourself (yard chores, fixing stuff, playing an instrument, trying to get better at your job, working on mental health, etc.)

I steal a line from a blackjack movie, "21." Always account for variable change. In other words, every player plays different, and they are constantly changing, whether emotionally reacting to cards, or learning how to play cards better, or how to play you better.

I have no problem calling his shoves when I have 75% equity... all day, every day and twice on the sabbath... I know that sometimes I am out, but most the times I am stacking him. two nights ago we went 1-1/// I got two freebies coming LOL
As flaky as this may sound, I find meditating helps me out a lot when I play. It just seems to even me out and i don't get caught up as much with the ups and downs. I feel like it helps me view the session as a whole instead of the few times the Variance Monster got me. But I get that meditation isn't for everyone. Just do whatever you need to so you're in a calm, even keel Mind Frame. And for lack of a better word, a "Zen" mind frame. Just doing a few simple controlled breathing exercises for a few minutes can do this.
The last one works in reverse because people always remember the hands that they won with 68 or 57. You remember the oddities. Aces are supposed to win. So winning with them is not memorable
A problem with the rise of poker bloggers is that they do focuses heavily on short-term outcomes. That's not really surprising as they're trying to create exciting, dramatic content. But when they 'act' as though they are devastated by a few bad beats and a single heavy loss, that's a really bad message for players out there.
You're the 10th best poker player in the world, you will lose if you're always playing against the best nine. If you're the 10th worst poker player in the world, you will Win if you are playing against the worst nine. Game selection is always going to be the most important dynamic at low levels because if you're better than they are you will win more often. I've been playing for the last 25 years but my three biggest sessions have been in the last 4 months because I finally found a room where I am continually one of the best players at the table. I haven't won every session but my losses are a couple hundred and my wins are a couple thousand.
@@johnnyBuz072 normally I would say that but I've studied the game a lot more in the last 6 months than I did in the previous 24 and 1/2 years and I've been noticing a lot more things at the table and they are working.
I had somebody scream at me when I outdrew them on the river in an online game. I felt bad and "sorry, that was a cooler" after winning a large pot. He started ranting about me ignoring pot odds when I should have folded to his bet and how the site dealt unfairly to him all the time. It got so bad I had to put him on ignore. That incident caused me to lose focus so I left the game before I made stupid plays. Poker wisdom to the rescue.
if i was that guy i would only rant to myself and say good hand to you... if he thinks you're the fish he wouldn't want you to leave. you make money by ppl making mistakes, just let them get lucky one or two time and keep them in

I knew if I hit my combo draw I was likely going to win a big pot. I put in a reasonable call on the turn. I knew I was behind. I hit the river for the absolute nuts and got paid off big by his second nuts. Who was the fish? BTW: I didn't want to leave, I have played long enough to know when I have lost focus and won't play my A game. So I left... with a nice chunk of his money 😀
@@genesises Based on a recount of a turn and river of one hand? OK. Am I fish? Maybe, I am sure I make plenty of mistakes. Self examination of your own play is part of getting better. I do that. I also do the off table study to get better. I have found games I can beat, I play those. I try bigger games now and then to see if I am ready to move up. If I am (and properly bankrolled) I do. If that is a fish, I am a fish. Honestly, My point wasn't even about the hand, it was what happened after the hand. It was about how the other player reacted and how I reacted. I realized my own poor emotional state. I was pleased with my decision to not let tilt cost me at the table. I still am. The hand itself? I looked at it again. I called a bit light on the turn, but I am not unhappy with how I played it. Neither great not terrible.
The main problem with GTO people fail to understand is that what "solver says" is based on perfect GTO play on ALL FURTHER STREETS. The solver knows what solver WILL do. You can't. So studying early game GTO is useless because you will not play perfectly on further streets (which includes stuff like 5x betting pot on the river).
Have to argue the “No, you don’t ALWAYS lose, blah, blah ,blah.” My wife has heard “He called my shove with crap and busted my AA” Dozens of times, but she has never heard, “He called my shove with crap and just GAVE me all his chips!” Call me with crap and you’re guaranteed a win.
Don't play poker. It will make you poorer and poorer assuming you don't lose al your money al at one. If yoy play don't play online. It's a losing game for 95% of the people. And if you wanna be part of the 5% then you should really go for it with everything you got.

I'm new again after a ten year hiatus. Good advice. I would add to make sure you are taking care of your body and eat well while staying hydrated.

My combo draw never hit. Get 78 suited next hand and 3 bet on the bottom.
