It being held late is doubly interesting, if only because of the 5200 port, which this ended up being far superior too. I do wish it were a better conversion, but it does the job I guess, which is enough, even in the presence of Encounter.
While I can appreciate the attempt to make this version of Battlezone close to the arcade original, too many other games (such as Encounter or Robot Tank) had taken this idea and already had improved upon it. Sad this couldn't have come out a lot earlier, but thems the breaks.
It looks okay, but losing the glow of the vector graphics sort of reduces it to being a pretty dreary-looking game. I love the arcade game, and the Atari 2600 version is pretty good, but I don't think I could play this version too much.
Hey sir, I had this game also too mostly as a cartridge when it was cool to go to Kaybee or Toys R Us for cartridges basically that was how I I recieved very many of them, it's such an honor to see this again, but don't like the new graphics so I can say that the 1987 video arcade version is better Keep on gaming!!! 🎮🕹❤💯
Not just Encounter blew it away, another Paul Woakes game- Mercenary in '85 or '86- pretty much destroyed this in terms of graphics and especially complexity. But yes, you're exactly right, if this had come out 4-5 years earlier, it would have been much better received.

this is a good effort but yeah, encounter is the superior game in every way.
Looks competent but oh so late! Good review sir.

It is a bit dreary, isn't it? I wonder what effect just bumping up the luminance value on the colours used might have had on it.
I agree I don't like this one either

I always found it technically impressive, but never liked playing it
