Why were Irish and Polish immigrants able to overcome their dire straights and not blacks as communities and individuals? Anybody that knows factual American history knows how bad the Irish had it not only in America but by their English masters before coming to America, Polish as well, Chinese didn’t have it so good either and the Barbary Slave Trade that America went to war over seems to be conveniently ignored. My ancestors came from Northern Ireland a 100 years before the European slave ships ever left African shores for America with slaves. They suffered no less before their arrival or after and fought in every single war and conflict since for “America”. The whole reparations thing and systemic oppression is absolute b.s. want evidence of systemic racism? Look at the acceptance charts for Universities and Colleges based on race and you’ll see where this systemic racism is really at.

A lot of immigrants came between 1880 and 1940, so why would they have to pay or even receive for slavery? This is racism even though every race was involved, only whites are the bad guys, the last to do it and the ones that cancelled it.

The Muslims are still practiced slavery all the way up to today. It was the white man that first fought against slavery and England was that first nation to make it illegal to hold slaves. 360 000 union soldiers died to end the slavery, what about paying their descendants reparations. Frankley, If you are black in America today descendant from slavery, you are luckier than 99% of the world of black population, you should be thankful for the sacrifice your ancestors did for YOU! If reparations at to be paid. Wouldn't it be best to have the ancestors of the first man to own a slave in the colonies be the ones that would need to pay them? Some blacks and whites were brought here in the early 1600's. They were indentured servants, not slaves. (Slave laws were passed in 1661 to which blacks became slaves.) After working off the cost of the transportation and such to come here. They were freed and given land to farm, normally 250 acres. In 1655, John Castor became the first black man that was legally indentured for life. He was owned by Anthony Johnson, a free black man. Short version. A back man was the first slave owner in America.

  • @LelaHolliday

The USSC has ruled on several different occasions it is unconstitutional to take from one specific group of people to give solely to another specific group of people. Cities that have passed reparations legislation have sneaky slime balls for mayors and city council members. They skirt the USSC rulings, and thus, the US Constitution, by taking "reparations" out of EVERY paycheck, including working p.o.c. They will claim it goes to improve black neighborhoods, but scant little, if any at all, is used to improve black neighborhoods. It gets redistributed anywhere but where they claim the money is earmarked for, mostly into the personal bank accounts of these corrupt mayors and their city council cronies under "Administrative Fees." Exactly what they file a lot of the state & federal funding received, under - "Administrative Fees". They are using the term "reparations" as a sleazy, underhanded, sneaky, new term for "tax". It's just another TAX taken from EVERY worker and aimed toward nothing & NO ONE in particular but themselves. Although, they might sprinkle a little bit towards patching sidewalk cracks. They will fight an audit tooth & nail. I wish Mr. Kirk would bring up the USSC cases rulings, and shine a spotlight on these sleazy so called "reparations" city leaders. Maybe then, more folks will start demanding regular (key word = REGULAR) audits of their Mayors, City Council, and, for the sake of inclusivity, County Commissioners too!

Adding on to what Charlie said, where would we even draw the line for reparations? There’s not one race or religion that hasn’t suffered the same injustices people are saying they’re owed reparations for today. Slavery, inequality, attempts at or successful genocide im sure has happened more than once. What’s going to happen when the people demanding reparations are told who THEY owe either through history saying “you’re no better” or if they were told “you owe us $XX because of all the (insert crimes) this group of people committed 5 states over”?
Either the reparations would come full circle, or one of those groups would refuse to pay back anything and we’re back at square one anyway, but more poor than before.

If it ever looked like reparations were seriously going to be doled out, i would invest everything I had into starting a luxury car dealership and a combination Nike/Gucci shop and dispensary. Within six months, I'd be rolling in all of their money and they'd be right back where they started, except with a Mercedes parked on the street in front of their house, Jordans on their feet, and a Gucci bag to carry their baby daddy's weed in.

There is an even bigger issue really. Who owes this money? Is it the person/people who captured and sold the slave or the person who purchased, legally at the time, the slave. Then of course theres the fact that if you asked 1000 blacks who want reperations and you asked them for the name of the slave and the slave owner and documentation to prove you are a descendant, 1000 of them would not be able to do it.

  • @CuriousMouseExploration

My ancestors in America never owned slaves. Many of them fought in the civil war to end slavery and were pro-equal rights for all. The other side were treated as badly as black people, for instance, many of their ethnicity were 2nd only to blacks in being lynched in the south. So, my taxes should not go to reparations. Instead of paying reparations to people who were never slaves, we should be freeing current slaves trafficked and kept in this nation. That's where the money should go - current victims of slavery.

A point about systemic and generational trauma. If it's true that the generation of freed slaves were traumatized, in turn traumatized their children and their children, etc. Then, ONLY the first generation is entitled to reparation, the subsequent generations were traumatized by THEIR parents and THEIR parents were the criminal.
Also, IF we are holding the children responsible for the crimes of their relatives, then we can hold relatives of criminals responsible for their relatives crimes? Can we sue the children of a rapist, murder, arsonist?

The majority of slaves that came from Africa were captured and sold into slavery by their own people from other, stronger, tribes. Greed was the cause of slavery. Slavery was the result of greed. So, why do the descendants of slaves want reparations from the slave owner's descendants? Why do they not ask the descendants of the bl@ck African and Arabian tribes that first enslaved them and marched them to the slave ships? So many perished on those journeys, more than the ones that made it and were then chained inside the holds of ships, where more of them perished at sea before finally being sold on slave blocks in the countries of destination. For every slave sold this way, four or five had perished from cruelty and/or hunger on the journey from their village to the farms and fields of their new 'owners'. Their 'owners' at least fed, clothed and housed them.

As the subject of reparations keeps popping up surely the only reparation that perhaps should be considered, if indeed one needs consideration, is the actual injustice to the modern African American whose ancestors were brought to America as slaves, is these descendants who obviously have proof to claim relationship as their birth right to Africa ( hence the African before American description) and they surely have that right, if it is their choice, to be returned to their ancestral land, at the total expense of the American government and claim their rightful ancestral citizenship there then surely this should be an open choice. If this became a choice for all who wanted what could be accepted as correct and fair reparations, would many African Americans take up this offer ? Surely many descendants of that shocking slave trade era have made comfortable lifestyles, opportunities and become millionaires and leading Americans in all walks of life in the USA. Probably not many would prefer the alternative now.

The funny thing is, I’ve seen a couple of African Americans who did in fact move back to their ancestral lands and then… complained that they weren’t welcome back by these people with open arms. Because to the natives, they’re nothing but foreigners invading their land, regardless of them having a similar skin color. And then the African Americans in question just complained about how their “brothers and sisters” don’t want them either.

  • @lorettarobards2657

Reparations is a tool for a much deeper division in America. Others say it’s just the opposite, which is totally wrong. If the reparations came from the actual person that owned the slave, then that would be part of their punishment for the crime, which would also include jail time. If you want to keep racism alive and division in our country, then reparations will do that. The citizens of today and many immigrants that have come to this country are not held accountable for what a dead person did over 150 years ago. Setting this kind of precedent is not something we should do, no one will win.

@ correct, but it is today, and those that think they deserve “justice” are those that are alive today, not the victims from 150 years ago. Reparations are not legal under these circumstances, descendants are not made to pay for the crimes of their ancestors.
Ezekiel 18:20 - “The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; “
People get away with crimes all the time, but the innocent should not be made to pay the price.
