The fact that both sega and nintendo both remade their 2d games in a cartoony style at the exact same time still shocks me.
Edit: I know people are saying that these games are not remakes, and yes, you are correct. They are both unique games in their own right. I used the word 'remade' because neither of these franchises have made a 2d game in a while. (I am aware of NSMB.U and Sonic mania)

Never played Super Mario RPG, but as soon as I saw the remake I had to see how happy the OG fans were. You did not disappoint! Can't wait to play the game that people have such fond memories of!
I haven't played it eather but i always wanted to play it too and it for me the reason to buy a new switch the one i had was stolen last year
I think I prefer the old style more but I think they did a good job remaking it for people who prefer newer graphics

I won’t lie, I saw Mario grinding and instantly though of sonic
I need to see more of Superstars in action, so far it's visuals haven't grabbed me as much as Mania's did in it's original levels. I do like for Mario that they're going back to that Popeye-esque style animation mixed with 3D.

I think it's more of a coincidence. Going by the extensive stylization of both RPG and Wonder, they've probably been in development since Odyssey released. That said, yeah, it's a VERY good year for Mario fans.

However, Nintendo has been known to sit on fully completed games for months, waiting for the "perfect time" to announce and/or release them, so the movie doing well might have pushed their release dates up a bit?
there were definitely tons of parents that went out and bought a switch for their kid after seeing the movie, great timing to have a diverse lineup of NEW mario stuff alongside the entire back catalog

I legit cried when I saw the new 2d mario game. My first mario game was NSMB Wii, and I remember beating it with my dad years ago, and to see a new 2d mario game again finally made me so happy. I also never had the chance to play Mario RPG, so I'm extremely excited to be able to finally play it. Just, that direct made me so fucking happy it's insane, and I'm glad to see other people feel the same way

To answer your DQ-related question:
-Overture is the serie's main theme, you'll hear it everywhere.
-While it is an original Monsters game, it's not the first (although the last one to come out in Europe did so 13 years ago on the DS), but it seems to be set on IV's world.
-The main character is Psaro, and the character at the last scene is Solo, IV's protagonist (aka one of the Smash people).
By all means, check the game out. Monsters is amazing and so much more than just DQ x Pokémon.
So, hearing Overture in a DQ game and being surprised is like hearing Proof of a Hero in a MH game and being surprised. Every game in the franchise has it's own version of Proof of a Hero, so I assume it's basically like that?
In Japan this new DQ game is called Dragon Quest Monsters 3, so it is a direct sequel to the GameBoy games
@@pablocasas5906 Probably not a direct sequel because Warubou didn't show up at all. Also this game seems to happen in IV's world, while Monsters 1 happens in an alternate dimension *in VI's world,* and Monsters 2 also happens there.
Between Bowser’s Fury and SMB Wonder, it’s becoming clear that Nintendo is willing to experiment and get weird with the Mario franchise, and I’m all for it.

Clearly it could lead to hit and miss situations but everything is better than a stagnant formula like the NSMB games that are just so boring and predictable that if it wasn't for Mario nobody would care anymore.

Between Mario Party, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Sunshine and Odyssey I think it's been clear for a long time that Nintendo has been willing to get weird with their portly Italian
@@zeroattentiongaming820 More like until Oddysey, they have been reluctant to experiment. Sunshine was met with mixed reviews if I remember, but with Oddysey doing so well, they hopefully won't be as hesitant to change from now on
I literally know next to nothing about Super Mario RPG except the fact that Geno is from it, but I legit shed a tear at your reaction. I could tell that the same nostalgic feelings and memories I got when the Crash and Spyro remakes were announced were swelling up inside. Can't wait to play it for the first time!

See we can't call it console wars anymore since Sega chose to stop making consoles, but seeing both Mario and Sonic games having bangers, it reminds me of the rivalry they always had, it's motivated them to make great games, I'm so excited!
I was born a few years after the original Console Wars between SEGA and Nintendo started with the release of the original Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario World, but after reading about it I have to admit that during that time it seemed like both companies tried to outdone one another with games like Sonic 3 or Yoshi's Island. It's not like they aren't trying nowadays, but there seemed to be more energy among developers back then

Its due to things like those that we got games such as Capcom Vs SNK 2, which is one of my favourites fighting games like, ever
(For the ones unfamiliar with the fgc, Capcom has Ryu, like, THE fighting game character. They literally created combos. SNK has characters like Terry and Iori, not to mention that i believe they created the concept of supers.)
Super Mario RPG is one of my favorite games of all time, I only played it while flash still existed, so a remake is amazing!
I'm calling it now, the idea for remaking RPG steamed from the original team trying to figure out how to force Miamoto to allow Geno in Smash

I got goosebumps with the Mario RPG reveal. And they did a great job with this remake, recreating the game into 3D while maintaining the artstyle. I think I realize now what happened, the game was made using 3D rendering software and then exported as 2D sprites, that's why the remake looks seamless and fantastic.
