    They were Czech made, under German "supervision". And the factory code for Brunn factory was "dot" while the Bystrica factory code was "dou". I own a dot 1943, Russian Captured with the "X" on the receiver. Interestingly enough, all of my rifle's waffenamts are intact. The cupped buttstock bolt disassembly hole is from the kriegsmodell kar98k. I'm guessing the Czechs decided to take the best aspects of regular kar98k production and combine it with the production speed of a kriegsmodell, especially since yours has a bayonet lug. Many kriegsmodells omitted it. Another excellent video. :)

    Nice video, and not only because I live 40 km from Brno! Very interesting and informative. Just one small correction - after occupation, a particular time the VZ 24 (VZ stnad for "vzor", it means model) has been produced with name G24 (t). T means tschechisch, german word for czech. The name G33/40 was a different rifle, pretty interesting one. It is slightly modified VZ 33, czechoslovakian Mauser carabine for police and gendarmerie. The G33/40 has been devepoled for mouitain troops. It is a pretty interesting rifle, about 140k of them have been made.

I could never figure out why there was no engraving in the top of the receiver. And the fact it’s had a sporterized stock on it probably since the 50’s. • @2aEdu
      @2aEdu  3 года назад +1

      Cool 👍 I also bought one of the Ethiopian SWP 45 with the medallion in the stock, after I did this video. The SWP 45 Ethiopian contract were assembled in Czech Brno post War then sold to Ethiopia. Many of the parts, receivers etc were made during German occupation. But shortly after the war Czech assembled a number of rifles, and added their marking too, and sold them to generate revenue. That is why you will see German and Czech Brno proofs on these rifles.
      So if you have one of the ones like I do from Royal Tiger, it is a German / Czech Ethiopian Contract K98K.

    Love the history. Prewar, war, and post war history of firearms and economics is really interesting. The Marshall Plan not only offered monetary support to the Western European states, but also to the Soviet Union and its allies. However, Stalin looked upon the reconstruction plan with suspicion and prevented the eastern European states from applying for Marshall Aid. In Stalin’s view, economic integration with the West would weaken his hold on Eastern Europe. Upon his return from a meeting with Stalin on the matter of Marshall Aid, Czechoslovak foreign minister Jan Masaryk stated:
    “I went to Moscow as the foreign minister of an independent sovereign state. I returned as a lackey of the Soviet government.” I do wonder how important the surviving factory was to Stalin as he faced the postwar tensions with the US that led to the Cold War.

    • @2aEdu
      @2aEdu  4 года назад

      I love the history too. Thanks for the additional info. I bet Stalin valued the BRNO factory. For sure. Czech never really followed the Soviet rules 100% though. All of their guns were different than the Russian variants. But Czech did use the Soviet calibers by mandate.

    Thanks to you, I have identified my dad's gun at last! I remembered the 8mm Mauser he had, that I shot a few times when I was a kid (ouch!) but I only just came into possession of it last month. I had been researching it intensely, with little to show. I got all the markings I could find, knew it was a Czech BRNO, and I searched google, watched everything about bolt action Mausers I could find, from Mr. Harrell, Hickock45, Gun Jesus, and many others, but I couldn't find anything that really pinned it down, until I saw this video! This is the gun! From the scrubbed receiver ring, the stamped trigger guard/mag plate, winter trigger guard, sights, markings, and everything else, this is it! I will be getting a good magnifier and bright light to check all the proof marks better, and see what else I can find tomorrow. Thank you! I think the stock has been sporterized or maybe replaced - the butt end all looks good, has the right butt plate, hole and vertical sling cutout, but the front end has no upper furniture or barrel rings. I have done a take-down, cleaned and oiled it good and can't wait to get to the range with it! Thanks 2a Edu!

    • @2aEdu
      @2aEdu  3 года назад +1

      Cool! I'm glad my video helped. These rifles are an interesting piece of history. I just got another one of these yesterday that is an Ethiopian Contract. It has more of the markings, and a coin embedded in the stock. Your rifle will take a K98 Mauser stock (they are German Mauser stocks) Laminated would be correct with the bolt take down hole in the cupped butt plate. If the stock still has the area for the barrel ring retainers, you could probably buy barrel rings and the retainers, and an upper laminate handguard. Yours might be missing the nose cap too. Ebay has a lot of that kind of stuff. Here is a link to the one I just bought. I just finished cleaning it up from all the dirt and grease it was packed in for decades. www.royaltigerimports.com/product-p/maus0009.htm

Was paying 50 to 75 for mine in lots in the mid 80's , should have kept more instead of giveing them away for grifts , the 409 is a simple rack number . nothing more. I like my cash cow's more then my 98K's , they just feel better , why I dont know.
