Agreed, Facebook collects all the same data as tik tok if not more yet they're still here.....This is not about who collects the data this is about who controls the data!
@@josha.bdoge2 that’s because Facebook is bought and paid for by a certain party.
You like big gov banning everything? 😂
@@DontCancelMeBro You like the alternative?
Facebook lobbied DC to ban TikTok. It would be fitting if Facebook got banned by it too.
The U.S doesnt want other countries to influence our political views; we already do that to our own citizens at a much larger scale.
Yes this is true… but at least with those companies we can fight them in our courts if they do… you can’t do that with a foreign power. There’s only one thing you can do.
Deep State and their j masters doesn't like what it can't control nor censor. Tik Tok is currently out of their control, and to them, that's antisemitic.
How can other countries influence our political views by using tiktok? It doesn't make sense.
@@LeahBreHappywow it’s been well proven that their algorithms will prioritize and push content that is in line with their views… if they want to push conspiracy content, pro China content, pro Biden or pro Trump content or anti Biden or Trump, anti America the list goes on and on…Social Media segments society into groups or keep receiving the same messaging over and over again in their feeds (that’s why it’s called a Feed) the more you consume the more it reinforces those views. Try clicking on a Flat Earther meme or post and see what happens. You’ll start getting conspiracy theories content that may make you start believing that the Earth actually IS flat! That’s an extreme example that still depends on how gullible you are, but there’s lots of examples of this influence. Sometimes it could be subconscious and we fall under a socialized Mob Rule mentality. These platforms have become an emotional and socio-political brain hack. And nearly no one is immune.
It's seems to be fine for foreign governments and their proxies to lobby and essentially buy/ prostitute our lawmakers from the local level all the way to the federal government level.
Never used it, never downloaded it, not going to miss it😃
I can’t speak on tiktok in this case, but Facebook was caught buying dozens of apps such as data compressors, (they were used to reduce data use and bandwidth consumption on older phones), and installing RATs in the apps code. They used these RATs to steal user data from millions of people, whether or not they had ever had Facebook, as well as committing man-in-the-middle attacks on their competitors (actual cyber crime), i.e. Snapchat, twitter, etc. What they were doing was falsifying digital certificates to impersonate the servers of their competitors, and then when they received the packets meant for the real servers, they stole the data inside to spy on the inner workings of the platform.
Same seen a lot of red flags with the app can't lie I was always curious, but I value my privacy.
Try it, you'll love it. It's very informational, and more entertaining than any other platform.
If you’re American it’s much deeper than an app.
@@A.N.N.E.Xthen you better stay off all social media.

I'm a software engineer. As a software engineer, I can sell my knowledge and skills to many different employers in exchange for money. This principle should be true of social media influencers as well. If your income is solely dependent upon Tiktok, then you didn't manage your career effectively and that's a personal problem. If you're a social media influencer, you should probably diversify your skillset so that you are marketable across platforms. Because of that I have no sympathy for those affected by a ban of Tiktok, especially when the reasons are to protect national security.
I wonder if you will have the same attitude when AI diminishes or eliminates your job or halves your earning power? Because it will happen.
@@lz2012the only people that think this will happen is people who don't understand what it takes to be a software engineer
@lz2012 only someone who knows nothing about software engineering would say that.
@@lz2012 Only like 20 to 30% of my job is actually writing code, which AI coding assistants can help with. It's also heavily dependent on what you are working on and if your company even allows these tools (because they collect data and there are a lot of laws on what a company can "give"). Most of my job is working with stakeholders to establish requirements and acceptance criteria, architectural design, and working with other teams in different divisions of the company to determine things like responsibility and ownership of different business functions.
It's nice to be able to say "write unit tests for this" or something though, but even that doesn't always work because an AI tool will often times try to write unit tests that satisfy all code paths, when really your unit tests should imitate business logic that moves through your code.
So yeah, what oscar said.

THE REAL QUESTIONS WHY ARE ANY OF THESE APPS ALLOWED TO TRACK OUR ADDRESSES.... THAT SHOULD ONLY BE ALLOWED WHEN DANGER IS HAPPENING LIFE THREATENING BREAKING LAW ISSUES THAT THEY SEEK FBI or cops for ability to check for the COPS
no body is forcing you to use them
Whether it's because you are using the app, or just because you own property, in a lot of instances your address is public information. It's not illegal for anybody to collect it. I can walk down the street recording addresses and people who live at various houses on a pen and paper as much as I want. You are submitting this information to companies when you use their services.
Apparently the rest of the world gets the cesspit version of Tik-tok while the Chinese gets a unique version. The Chinese one has simple games and puzzles that are geared towards helping kids learn.
Chinese version of tiktok has a lot of crap too. but unlike people in west many Chinese don't like to watch crap and the algorithm is different.

Meanwhile, we are talking about tik tok. The senate just passed a law to “Warrantless Surveillance Law”
TikTok is probably done in the US but not outside of the US. TikTok is actually a money losing subsidiary of a thriving Chinese giant tech company so it’s not big loss. However, the world will remember that the US government uses unfounded excuses to help companies it favors. The US will lose more than it gains.
If China have ban RUclips there why Tiktok would work in USA or other European country?
Similar reason the US wants to ban it, mistrust among nations

I wish Google would make shorts and traditional U Tube a separate thing. I start to hate U Tube every time I accidentally click on any short that isn't dancing. Shorts are annoying as heck. If you want to compete with Tik Tok at least don't force it on people who have long attention spans and aren't interested.
the graham part tho 😂
So, instead of going specifically for TikTok, shouldn't the US put in place laws similar to the european union that protect user data from data collection? This would also fix the Facebook problem and deal with other big players that try to spy on US citizens.
Very interesting. The risk is too high for our current society

Rowing is off rhythm for the dance challenge.......ROFL!!!!
Slippery slope of an issue, over time most popular applications will have regional versions and data centres. Issue here is about control.
Yes as a cybersecurity professional myself, I confirm that other apps and other data brokers have far more data on individuals and are far more dangerous. Anyone who knows anything about data privacy and open source intelligence sees this clearly.
If the government really wants to address data privacy, they would need a comprehensive bill that actually addresses the data brokers and the way companies in general use and store data.
That bill goes away deeper than just banning TikTok. DJI drones for example might have a serious problem on their hands too, and that would impact a lot of personal and small business in the US.
Andrei grinding on Grindr? 😮
Tiktok's CEO is a real comedian with that video "for the people". Surrrrrre.
Maybe these social media platforms should be Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, owned by many states and mostly by the users?
I paused video at 3:17 im went to home screen and uninstalled tiktok lol
I'm not a TikTok creator or user, in fact I reset social media because of the negative effects they have on society at large (which outweigh the positives). But in my opinion, what the US created it's own DB for TikTok users that are in the US. The US would have full control of all the Data that is generated by US users. I know it's a huge stretch and will require again trust between the companies, but it's an option that might be worth considering. Or have yet another version of TikTok just for the US, with it's onw Database and privileges.
Fantastic decision
The Walmart of social media haha
Neither Google nor Facebook is widely accessible in China due to government restrictions on internet access. China has its own domestic alternatives, such as Baidu for search and WeChat for social networking.
Dont put all your eggs in one basket, diversify and your privacy is your "freedom"
How many times in history have we heard about "threatening the national security"? And what happened after that?
Sup y'all
I agree with the "ban". In today's world, cyber warfare is a huge risk. The more data other countries have about us the more "ammo" they have. It's a matter of national security.
that's a fair point
I don't use TikTok, but geo-IP blocks can be easily bypassed with a VPN.

Let’s bring vine back
The US gov sees how much money TikTok makes, so they'll ban it and make an American version, no? That's how I see it, could be wrong, though...
actually China ban global Tiktok and use alt Tiktok version. US is using the global version. If the global version of Tiktok is banned, people can just create alt versions in the US.
We've become too comfortable with letting the creators of these apps have access to our personal lives. It's become so normalized that's it's become trivial to argue about it but it SHOULD matter who we're giving access to. We SHOULD seriously consider IF we should or not. The younger generations are taking this for granted.
I hate tik tok. It’s the toilet bowl of social media. Good riddance of it

With Tik Tok being American owned, your government can better surveil you and ensure your security. Say good-bye to privacy. Besides, you can't censor ex-pat companies.
That's exactly why China banned all foreign companies. That alone is reason enough to ban every Chinese platform. Tit-for-tat.
