I tried both chairs at REI, and the Flexlite Air seems to give a little more elevation than the Helinox Chair Zero. That one or two inches made it easier to get out of the Flexlite Air, which as someone of a certain age, I really appreciated. 😂

Jon, can you do me a big favour?...Can you let me know if the fabric seat from the REI fits onto the Chair Zero, and visa versa?
The reason I ask is because the REI's fabric seat is made of Nylon, so it's a lot lighter than the Chair Zeros Polyester fabric seat (145g). But the Chair Zero has a much lighter frame than the REI, so they end up being virtually the same weight....But, if you can fit the REI's lighter fabric seat onto the Chair Zeros lighter frame then you would instantly have the lightest camping chair in the world!
So you are in the unique position to settle this question...

I own a Helinox, but have never actually taken it backpacking. I just sit on my bear canister. I’ve used the Helinox on day hikes,at the park, and tailgating.

I own both of these chairs and almost always take them backpacking. For me the REI chair wins on value but the Helinox wins on comfort. The Helinox seat angle is a little less pitched up and I find that more comfortable. I think the Helinox seat is slightly more shallow too. I’m not sure it’s $50 more comfortable but it’s noticeable to me. I’m 5’8” 170lbs for comparison.

Love my flex lite, I always bring it, totally worth the weight.

Nice! I did tons of research and bought many pieces of gear that you've since discussed as being the "best" pieces you can get (I'm thinking of the nemo disco sleeping bag and tensor pad and xtherm bag liner). I also love the PNW Idaho alpine lakes area (though I've never been to idaho, just WA). Please keep it up!
One question, do you have a repair kit (at home and possibly one that you take with you when backpacking). What kinds of tools do you keep? Have you thought about getting spare buckles for your backpack or something similar?

I have both and prefer the rei chair it’s more comfortable, the packed size advantage of the helinox doesn’t matter to me because its strapped to the top of my pack with nothing else.

FYI the reason why every other reputable manufacturer uses vertical legs instead of horizontal is that Helinox patented the design.

I respect the sentiment but creators don’t choose the ads, RUclips automatically assigns them based off of data from your phone.
