Great video, exactly the answer to the question ”how viscous couplers work” that I had!

Interesting.. So it acts exactly like a clutch--- accept its not a direct friction connection--- so the fluid still allows it to slip so that there is no binding from front to rear... Very cool.

Can you advise me on what viscosity silicone oil to put in a Honda viscous LSD? I want to rebuild/refresh it before putting my transmission back together. The fluids I see range from 30k to 150k. I read that Honda viscous couplers came with 30k but I can't find info on what the LSD came with.

can you change the oil in couple that are sealed ? (subaru g3x ) ?

Hey man thanks. I bought my teen son a 2004 Impreza Outback 5-speed, 156,000 miles. AWD of course. We didn't notice a whine noise, but it just started clicking or tapping around curves and acceleration. I can feel the tapping in the gear shift handle. And it seems it sometimes loses AWD grip when it taps. So I think the center diff is binding the output shafts sometimes.
I found new ones with 2 yesr warranty for $185 on ebay, or OEM from Subaru for $600+ 6 or 12 month warranty.
    Any suggestions?

If the oil is low will it cause it to go bad or act like it’s bad?

Hey where to buy fluid and how to know what fluid for a specific vehicle that says (non rebuildavle, even though they are dismantleable)
Vehicule is a 2004 suzuki aerio.
    Thanks

Is it possible for one of these to be built like a torque converter where it has a set of stators and rotors, with one forcing the fluid through the other for a more positive lockup effect?

There’s now pump for fluid flow. Would be a challenge.

Hi, I'm in the UK and run a landrover freelander, my VC is solid! I removed it from the vehicle and you can put a large pipe wrench on either side of it, in other words one on each propshaft and it is solid! would a rebuild work on this do you think? Luckily I caught it before it damaged the transmission.

Theoretically, shouldn't you be able to tune the amount of lockup and when, by varying the thickness of the viscous fluid?

Ryaneg6freak yes. That’s what I do. I build viscous couplers. I have couplers in all the Prayoonto cars, OSTEM/Speed factory, frustrate EG ETC ALL customers of mine

Does it means that the fluid passing through is acting like a friction plate on clutch set??

    • @calholli
      @calholli 3 года назад

@@ameirabbden5290 exactly... pretty cool... So it acts as a locked clutch but still allows "some slip so that there is no binding from the front and rear wheels.

These all rely on a mixothixotropic fluid that changes viscosity (thickens) under load.
