I have 3 of the latest generation 10 watt radios. I absolutely love them! What a nice usable radio at a really fair price. And bluetooth programming! I love the fact that they have made appropriate fixes in a timely manner. Great Job TID! KX4IG
Nice! Yeah they been fairly receptive and responsive to things they might can get fixed/changed. I’ve dealt with other companies that won’t even return your emails ever you address something. These folks actually ask you to communicate. 👍
I bought 2ea of the TD-H3 models when they were first released... One is Perfect... Power is the same across 2 meter and 70 cm... No spikes near the accepted level... Sounds clear, Good Reports.... The other radio will not keep its programing if I use the blue tooth programming if I program it manually its fine ....Who knows! Thanks
Ordered the Ham version from Amazon about 3 weeks ago and got it about a week later with 230317 firmware., but it wasn't the ham but GMRS. I did the hack to get it to ham, updated to 230911 firmware. I deleted the gmrs freqs, and entered the ham repeaters I wanted using chirp. I also checked the audio with my wife holding a UV5R and I was away from her and she heard no noise other than my voice, which was good. Now on the OD app, I can't get it to work I have tried and tried, followed the instructions, what I saw on youtube etc, and still nothing. I like the idea of OD but maybe it is me (which it probably is), but don't think it is ready for prime time. The radio itself like you, I do like the feel of it. Also, I like that they listen to the users.
Glad you found the key to changing it over to ham. 👍 as far as the programming , I did have problems with on of them not communicating with the app. Last time I used the app I know they had 3 options (GMRS / ham / unlocked ) to choose from, I assume you tried all three? If nothing else try sending them a email, they might could do a update with the app or advise on how to get it to work hopefully.
@@K5YVY right now, I am just waiting for awhile, pm the app because maybe I have tunnel vision on setting up the app. I will have to take a look at the app again. Thanks.
Great video, I have 2 version one H-8 radios ham and gmrs and two version 2 radios ham and gmrs absolutely good product my Odmaster App works well on my phone. I also have a couple other Tidradio HT's for gmrs and Ham H-6 and H-5
That’s a reasonable strategy. To bad there’s not a way Amazon can list current stocked serial number ranges or at the least date last restocked on their products.
I ordered one directly from the tidradio website so I’ll see what software version I get I’m hoping sense it’s from a dealer site it will be a newer one.
I have had mine since june the H8 . Works great.. A couple of notes for new owners make sure the bluetooth is turned on on the radio via teh BL button in the radio. or you wont connect with the app. latest firmware no major changes but a couple of things like scan funtion and custom icon on power on. I need help to setup the APRS on it I have never used that before my ft60 didnt have it
Thanks for providing the info for others. For the APRS they had mentioned including that function, to my understanding as a function through the phone app, but I have not seen it implemented.
Hey Ken, Yeah hopefully they depleted the Amazon stock and replaced with current. But that’s why we shared how one can check. If one got a bad one from Amazon and free exchange will be easy though.
it would help if you gave the launch dates for each radio you reviewed. I have a Sept. 23, 2023 version, and I have no idea how it fits into the long string of radios you reviewed. Do I have a good one or not ? Were those glitches fixed in my unit, or no ?
All of the manufacturers SHOULD do the same. Until there tangible repercussions for putting out radios that are illegal to transmit only some manufacturers will do the right thing.
I like my H8 (GMRS), but my experience with the microphone was just the opposite of yours in that the built-in mic was better than a handheld speaker-mic. I wasn't happy with the really cheap-o mic, I bought a "better mic" that was an improvement, but really lacking. So, I'm still looking for a decent mic.
Odd , I’ve got two of their shoulder mics and they both sound great. But I’d rather have had your problem and had a great built in mic. Now that their latest firmware supports mic gain in the options that seems to have had a big effect👍. Hopefully you’ll find a nice solder mic soon
Thank you for the informative video. I'm unlicensed and interested in ham. I would like something cheap to learn with. Do you know if this model can pick up police and emergency channels as well? Any input would be much appreciated.
Hey Sean, the H8 has a receive range from 136Mhz-174Mhz & 400Mhz-512Mhz. If the public safety frequencies you wish to listen to are within those frequency ranges and are analog signals, then this will listen to them. Searching your area on radioreference.com should give you some good insight on what type of radio systems and frequencies they use around you. This radio will not decode digital frequencies.
The one in the video making the horrible noise when transmitting is the only one I had bad audio problems with. The latest version fixed the noise and spurious emissions. 👍
I noticed no difference, and there should not be. The hardware was designed for what it’s marketed for, when you unlock it and go to frequencies outside of its original design that’s when you will notice degradation of performance , but not in the ham/GMRS segments. 👍
How do I turn up & down the Mic gain? On GMRS and or ham. I can't find it. I'm Shure it's there I'm just not seeing it what abbreviation would it be under thank you Merry Christmas
If I unlock the H8-Gen2 can I just start talking with what's on it? & can I go back and forth to GMRS & Ham & unlock with out going to Blue tooth & having to download a bunch of stuff.... Thank you.👍 P.s know one talks about what happens if u unlock and what need to be done afterwards :)
I really like the radio. But the thing that makes me pause is this. The little led flashlight is dead in one month. Seems like they could get that right anyway. Lots of people have the same problem. Although it's not even a very bright light. It should work, just doesn't give me confidence in the radio.
@@kaascake Yeah, most of the evidence I've seen from people purchasing them directly from TiD is that even the spurious emissions are still hit or miss. It's a roll of the dice whether you get one that has them or one that doesn't. That indicates to me they've had some serious line and QA issues, and they've just been finding good quality ones in the stock and sending replacements to people who to test them and complain. At least for the H8 anyway.
People forget to adjust the mic gain. You cant run it wide open. Also this radio converts to GMRS and Ham or fully open. No need to buy an extra radio.
Blue-tooth programming should be standard in all the HT's
Absolutely agree
Nice to se they stepped up and fixed their hardware. 73!
Hey Jeff, yeah there may have been bumps in the road but sure nice to see a company put in the actual effort to correct issues.

That’s odd, may be worth trying to flash fresh firmware on it 🤷🏼♂️
Good to see their responsiveness. Great video too.
Thanks Mike!

Goodness, never used one, is this complicated, wanna buy one or two. Ty
No not complicated 👍
I watched the smokin ape’s video about this radio last night but I do appreciate your thoughts on this radio, keep up the good work
Thais Bob, Several guys doing good videos, I figured I would just throw my thoughts in and link everyone to their videos 👍
That was a GREAT collage of RUclipsrs Joe Brett. Well done video.
Thanks Randall, That was a fun part to put in there, maybe none of them will claim copyright 😎.

Good audio demo JB. I just bought one direct from TID Radio, I will certainly be checking the boot-up screen and firmware revision. Thnx. :)
Nice Don 👍
The finally sent me a C-Type battery and it’s awesome
Who knew C-Type would bring us so much joy 😎
I almost bought one of those but not until i'm confident they have all updated inventory. Maybe in a year or so.
That’s a reasonable strategy. To bad there’s not a way Amazon can list current stocked serial number ranges or at the least date last restocked on their products.
Its just crazy that they sent you so many of those...
I thought so too. Why I waited so long doing a video, I knew the 5th was on its way.
Well done, Joe!
Thank you Ed 👍

My concern is what hardware is still sitting in Amazon’s warehouses - think of the last scene of the first Indiana Jones movie

@@K5YVY Sadly we have no guidance on the serial numbers we should look out for…

I don’t have any reviews. I felt like the Tidradio TD-HM060 mics are great.

It should be in menu #45. MIC GAIN, if you don’t see it then you will need to upgrade your firmware to the newest.
Lol @ the mic test

You need only to use frequencies which you are licensed to use. If you have no license you could consider MURS frequencies.

per tidradio when in gmrs mode the radio will only do 5 watts

So annoying! Atrocious QA; they probably wired it direct, instead of using PWM

Until recent firmware they did not give you a menu adjustment for Mic gain.
So we're just supposed to hope that the one we got is decent? Their quality control is atrocious.
You should stick to the big names of your looking for solid quality control. 👍
