U forgot to mention one important point about quilts. They can be either handmade or machine-made. While u hv spoken about machine-made quilts, it is the handmade quilts that r precious to the receiver of the gift. Patchwork quilts r extremely colorful, and a piece of art. I know, coz I make them. I only make them for family members, and special friends. I never charge for them, but those that receive my quilts know how valuable they r to me. Machine made quilts come nowhere close in beauty to hand-made quilts. Just an observation.....
Growing up in 80s and 90s, life was less complicated, with fewer English words. We were in North India, so we had Kambal and Razai, Blanket and Quilt respectively. There was no concept of microfibre filler, the filler in the Quilt was inevitably cotton. and all had their covers, which were stitched at home or at the Tailors. People used to wash only the covers periodically not the Quilt or the Blanket. As life evolves, we too have to evolve or we shall dissolve, I heard the word comforter only after the 2000s, and it was mostly linked to AC use. Never mind, one point which I would like to add here is that please do not use 5kg washing machines to wash any of these(Dohar may be ok), only if your washing machine is beyond 7 kg, you may use it for washing, or else wait for the summer season, and you can wash it in the clean bathroom floor, and dry them outside
