That warehouse is kinda sad to me. No wonder it feels spooky and has bad air, it's like a collective of people's thoughts bound in paper practically left to rot when books should be handled more and not so... abandoned? The nature in this vlog was gorgeous, I'm a little jealous. Must've been so nice. Anyway, belated happy birthday! This was a nice video to see this morning. Best wishes with the move and unpacking everything.
is it just me or is the relationship between emma and her brother really sweet and fun :) it's so cool that he tags along on your book adventures even though he doesn't share the hobby!
I've had the best luck with airing out items like this by putting them out in the hot sun for a long time (like, days and days) - but keep an eye on them, maybe not direct sunlight if fading is an issue. . Also putting them inside a bag laying on baking soda, which absorbs the smell. Good luck getting them into a readable state.
Yup fr i mean there are many people who love reading books to the point of obsession and would definitely do some sketchy stuff to get those books for free to save bucks especially when the security level of such places is basically non-existent lmao
Every video I watch of yours makes me feel like you are Matilda after being raised by miss Honey 🥺 because you are just so soft spoken and passionate about literature.
If/when you come to Scotland you should definitely visit Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway! It is Scotland's national book town and despite being tiny it's full of second hand bookshops- and it has a book festival too! The nearby town Gatehouse of Fleet also has a brilliant bookshop filled floor to ceiling and a little free museum with a cafe that looks out on the river 😊
I didn’t know that Ontario boasted the smallest bookstore! I’ll add it to my bragging list, but I don’t think I’ll be adding it to my day trips list due to the rotting corpse smell.
I'm a week late to do so, but I just wanted to wish you a Happy Belated Birthday, Emma!🖤🖤 The videos you create are so cosy and aesthetically pleasing, they make me want to pick up a book every time I see them, and it's honestly so inspiring considering I have regular (terrible) book slumps. Anyways, thank you for the content you make and I hope you have a great year!🎉
I cried a little inside when you pushed that pretty edition of Theodor Fontane's Effi Briest back into the shelf lol, that was one of the best books I've read in high school - definitely pick it up when you have a chance and want to read some historical drama with romance elements!
It's such a pretty and cozy book store. I loved how you portrayed the whole vlog. It has not been many days, that I've found your channel. But in these few days I have watched more than 10 videos of your channel. Today I am so happy that I subscribed to your channel. Such a healing vide you have in each of your video. For a bookworm like me, this is the perfect spot to sit down in RUclips 😊
My uncle sold the family cottage a few years back and I miss it so much, but this video gave me all the cottage vibes that I've been craving lately. I don't think your cottage is super far from where ours was, so just seeing that clip where you step on to your dock and show the beautiful trees and the sky reflected in the water made me feel like I was back home. Thank you so much
Oh! When I watch this kind of vlogs going to those cool bookstores I wish I have something symilar in my town. You are so lucky, they are too cute. Thanks for sharing this with people who love books like us!!!
In my city, the small book shop has more hidden gems! I even found Rilke's Tiefen dir Zugekehrt there! And also I can't wait for your new asmr upload reading Rilke's poem 😁
“We’re going to go to the white building that’s filled with books...it’s probably a trap, but we’re going to go” “We’re going to get murdered” “no no it’s fine, it’s worth it” So basically every booknerd’s thought process. Like as soon as I heard it I was like, worth it 😂.
@@madeleine8662 :) We talked about it in class not that long ago, when I saw it I first thought I imagined it 'cause I did not think that there would be an English translation 🙈😅
Belated Birthday Wishes! I just subscribed today, after seeing your classic books video. I recently got back into reading, and I'm finding your channel to be a great way I can read more books and enjoy the world of it. Thank you!
Oh my.. Be careful as breathing mold spores is not good for your health. Plenty of mushroom growers can tell you that after years of working with fungus you don't get more resilient, you get more sensitive to getting ill from the spores. That place needs a good airing out (including a books outdoors in the sunshine setup). Someone needs to clean it up. If I had found it like that in a visit I'm not sure I would have closed the door again. I'd have left it ajar lol. Please give your books a thorough wipe down with some ½ diluted methylated spirits, or some other alcohol based product, and a good page airing in the sun with some bicarb dusted between them. Give them some summer heat. Shame we can't all teleport over there and give the place a decent book do over..
How cute this book oasis (although damp and not appropriately cared for) in the middle of nowhere! Very picturesque! I hope you enjoy Willa Cather! I haven’t read “My Antonia” yet, but I’ve really enjoyed “O Pioneers” and “The song of the lark”. Enjoy your reading!! 💕
So happy to see you back!! Since you last posted, I’ve been compulsively checking my notifications to see whether I’ve missed anything new, especially the moving vlog!!!!!!!!!
Happy late birthday Emma! What a great way to spend your day. 😄💙 My birthday is soon on the 5th so this gives me an idea on how to spend my birthday! 📚🥰
I love Agatha Christie! She once went missing from a couple of weeks, and I live in the town that she was found in. We have an annual Crime Writing Festival every year in the hotel she stayed in. Which is a lot of fun 😁
I hope you had an awesome vacation! I've heard before that sticking a book in the freezer gets rid of some of the smell, but I've never tried it myself before.
I have one of those Agatha Christie books in French too! The English versions of that edition are red and just a little taller. I have a shelf full that I found on Facebook marketplace one summer!
Wow. I own that edition of 'King Soloman's Mines'. That very same one. On my bookshelf. Here, in little old Liverpool, England, United Kingdom. (I know there's a Liverpool in Canada, too, hence the exactness of my location. I think there's a Liverpool in Australia, too, come to think of it...?!?) Anyway, wow, small world, as they say.
Luv the smell of old books 📚😍. There's a perfume roller bottle with old BOOK scent. I got it in my virtual 🛒. The question is: Will other peeps go crazy over me or avoid me because of my new perfume?
Slightly-belated Happy Birthday! 🎉🧁🥳 I swear, there must be something in the ether this summer because I've been seeing Willa Cather pop up everywhere. She's been one of my favorite authors for yeeeears but I've never seen anyone talk about her in the bookish world/on booktube until just a month or two ago. Her books have been flying off the shelves at work, too (I work at a public library). I hope you enjoy her writing when you get to it -- she has such a gorgeously simple style and a remarkable gift for capturing human nature and the human experience. "Death Comes for the Archbishop" is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. I hope you had a lovely vacation and birthday! Good luck with the rest of your move!

also very minor lil thing but i believe the bohemian pronunciation of ántonia puts the emphasis on the “nee” sound instead of the “toe” so “my an-tuh-NEE-ah” 🤍

So happy to see your update. great blog and thank you for taking us along your adventure ☺️
“ Like the air filters haven’t been switched in 20 years” lmao 🤣
I laughed too. There are no air filters! Lol
Give those books some sunlight, fresh air and sprinkle with bicarbonate Soda and they will be fine xx, thank you for rescuing them x
