A new exhibition offers a glimpse into the captivating world of Alberta Sturges Montagu, the 9th Countess of Sandwich, and an American Heiress from the renowned era known as The Gilded Age.
Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.
Dating from 1888 to 1951, these letters constitute the largest unpublished private collection of correspondence from the period. They offer a remarkable glimpse into the life of a "dollar bride" during the Gilded Age, shedding light on both triumphs and struggles.
The exhibition takes innovation to the next level by introducing Alberta AI, a ground-breaking creation that brings her story to life like never before.

This made me look this up and while Julie was my first yoga instructor hecka years ago I never knew she did a fake housewives show. Yikes! Yeah the elegant self confident and kind Julie is so much better even if I remember her as being blonde and boisterous.

I miss Italy! Not so much the big cities but the small villages. The mountains, hills, chestnut trees, fig trees, the streams n rivers. The food, the roasted rabbit dinners, focaccia bread, cut in half, sprinkled with fresh olive oil!

Castillo looks beautiful. The surrounding mountains are spectacular.
My father’s side of the family came from Abruzzo, Sulmona Aquila. He went to the university there during war and post WWII. That is the same area where Madonna’s family came from. The area was quite financially depressed through the 1980s. Their financial wellbeing is due in great part to the many young men like my father who left Italy to work in America and Australia who would faithfully send money to their families who then invested in their communities. The Italians in this region are more reserved than the areas of Rome and further south.
It would be nice to see a family dinner with the kids at your Tuscany place. Normally you dont have them on your clips. But wouldnt hurt on rare occasions.
I'm sure it would be nice for you - but I don't think Julie wants to do that, this isn't a 'request' show! 😅
I loved the hat it really suits you. This was a delightful episode Julie, one where you were relaxed, enjoying a special time with Luke in the sunshine of Italy away from the stresses and pulls of Mapperton. The Villa looked fabulous, so clean, comfortable, tasteful and quiet. I really enjoyed my vicarious shopping expedition into the marvellously entrancing shops with their absolutely gorgeous designs on the plates and bowls and other pottery items. I am so pleased that you will have similar episodes to come. Since I will never be able to travel to Italy, I can enjoy the travel through your eyes and Luke's filming. Thank you both.🌹
I love all your videos of your Tuscan home but so glad that you took this side trip to Abruzzo! (My neck of the woods, so to speak!) My Dad was born and raised there and my Mom’s parents were from there as well. I loved that villa that you stayed and had dinner at. That charm that they gave you is called “La Presendosa”. All the women in my family have one. They are made only in Abruzzo, or at least they were at one time. You were so fortunate to get one as they are quite beautiful and unique. So happy that you found some beautiful plates and other “ceramiche”. Can wait to see them in your adorable, little Tuscan house. Ciao for now. 😉

I've been to Castelli many times including last summer and maybe going again this July when we travel back to Italy for the 100th time. I was laughing as you, Julie, walked into Emiliano's shop on the right and I went back to my photos from last year and had the same pics of his pottery wheel and that plaque on the table as you talked about the dish pattern you liked. Also I recognized the shops you were in. One excellent shop you don't show in this vid has the most beautiful 18K gold painting on the rims of the lidded jars, espresso cups, plates etc. My Italian husband's cousin has the most lovely detailed painted platters and plaques from Castelli hanging in her house in L'Aquila. I am envious! Anyway, great to see you went to Castelli. There are also many larger shops are the road up to Castelli selling a lot of "ceramiche."
