  • Vladimir Putin's Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg is the second time he's invited African leaders to meet him on his home turf, and if attendance is anything to go by, he is more interested in them than they are in him: At the last summit in Sochi, 45 of them turned up, this time almost two thirds of them stayed away. So what is Putin offering? The Russian president has promised to supply African nations free weapons to enhance security on the continent - his country is already Africa's biggest arms dealer. He also pledged cooperation on trade, science and technology.
"Africa is suffering" - those were the words of AU Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat lamenting that the war between Russia and Ukraine was making Africa's food crisis worse. Responding to African calls asking Kyiv and Moscow to end the conflict, Putin said he'd look at an African peace proposal. The Russian leader rejected as "hypocritical' accusations by the West" that the Kremlin is playing "hunger games." On Thursday, Putin announced free grain supplies to six African nations just ten days after blocking exports from Ukraine by quitting the Black Sea grain deal.

Russia never colonised Africa and also helped us gain independence from Apartheid government with arms and military training. Russia helped us when we were down and out, as Africans we appreciate and never forget those who helped us, our values won't allow us to forget a friend when things are better

I agree! I would rather be an Ally of Russia than US/EU .
But unfortunately my country Madagascar right now is just France’s little pet dog. We can’t take back part our land occupied by France since our ‘independence’ in 1960. Our last president had both French and Malagasy nationality so you can imagine he is their freaking double agent in the head of our nation

Today, as in the past, the West does not offer African partners any form of cooperation based on real equality, but only the extension of a model of relations that are unenviable post-colonial experiences for all African nations. The relationship of the "flowering garden" and the "jungle" (J. Borrel).
Russia offers a real dialogue that is equal and mutually beneficial in practice, not just in words. One of the pillars of Russia’s foreign policy towards the African continent is that Africa must address its systemic problems on the basis of its own financial and political structures and practices, adapted to the socio-cultural context of the African continent. With the collapse of colonial rule and independence, political and financial structures, international networks, and European-style and de facto Western control of the latter were imposed on the continent. Structures, networks and methods are highly insecure to African specificities. More than half a century of modern history has shown their absolute failure.
Of course, economically speaking, Russia on the African continent weighs far less than the United States, the European Union, or China. But Russia has something to offer. And its proposals are existential for the future country of Africa. On the one hand, it is participation in strengthening and stabilizing security on the continent - including financial and food security - and, on the other, technology transfer. Technology transfer in various fields. As, for example, in nuclear energy, in which Russia is the world leader and what is able to change the face of Africa.

Russia does not want chaos and disorder on the continent. The Kremlin needs stability on mutually advantageous terms, because cheating on this continent is pointless, historical memory is a t insidious thing. In 1960, the Soviet Union initiated the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the "Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples". And in 1961, at the request of the USSR and other socialist countries, a UN Special Committee was established to implement the ideas contained in this Declaration, which played a very important role in the final destruction of the colonial system. In particular, in 1963, Soviet diplomats ensured that the UN Security Council passed a tough resolution on sanctions against Portugal, which was unwilling to part with its African colonies. In no small part as a result of the activities of the USSR, many African states gained independence in the 1950s and 1970s.
The Soviet Union has consistently defended the interests of African countries in various international organizations, first and foremost at the level of the United Nations and its Security Council. Secondly, the USSR has been of great assistance to many young States on the African continent in building security systems. in the construction, financing, training, staffing and arming of national armies capable of addressing external threats to national sovereignty and blocking the development of internal armed conflicts.
Russia’s Strategic Error - Rejecting the Veto in the United Nations Security Council Vote in 2011 on the Ambiguous Western Resolution 1973 on Libya: It has paved the way for the catastrophic destabilization of the continent through the near-total destruction of Libyan statehood and the export of Libyan chaos and weapons to almost half of the continent.

Russia is offering a lot that the other big powers cannot, such as the hope that traditional values can survive. Most African people support russia, including Kenya, although our government may appear to support the west. Dont believe the clown who critisized the war at the UN.
