George Michael (born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou; 25 June 1963 - 25 December 2016) was an English singer, songwriter and record producer. Known as a leading creative force in music production, songwriting, vocal performance and visual presentation, he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the MTV era.
Born in East Finchley, North London, Michael rose to fame as a member of the music duo Wham! and later embarked on a solo career. Forming the duo Wham! with Andrew Ridgeley in 1981, the band's first two albums, Fantastic (1983) and Make It Big (1984), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. Their hit singles included "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Last Christmas". Establishing themselves as a global act, Wham! toured China in April 1985; the tour was the first visit to China by a Western popular music act, and it generated worldwide media coverage.
Michael's first solo single, "Careless Whisper", reached number one in over 20 countries, including the UK and US. Before embarking on the production of his first solo album, Michael went on to release two more number-one singles, "A Different Corner" and the Aretha Franklin duet "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)". Michael's debut solo album, Faith, was released in 1987, topping the UK Albums Chart and staying at number one on the Billboard 200 for 12 weeks. Globally it sold 25 million copies, and four singles from the album-"Faith", "Father Figure", "One More Try", and "Monkey"-reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Michael became the best-selling music artist of 1988, and Faith was awarded Album of the Year at the 1989 Grammy Awards. His second solo album, Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 (1990), sold approximately eight million copies and was a UK number-one. It included the Billboard Hot 100 number-one "Praying for Time" and the worldwide hit "Freedom! '90". A 1991 live duet with Elton John, "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", was also a transatlantic number one. Michael went on to release two more multimillion-selling albums, Older (1996) and Patience (2004).
Michael came out as gay in 1998. He was an active LGBT rights campaigner and HIV/AIDS charity fundraiser. Michael's personal life, drug use, and legal troubles made headlines during the late 1990s and 2000s, as he was arrested for public lewdness in 1998 and was arrested for multiple drug-related offences after that time. The 2005 documentary A Different Story covered his career and personal life. Michael's 25 Live tour spanned three tours from 2006 to 2008. Michael fell into a coma in 2011 during a bout with pneumonia, but later recovered. He performed his final concert at London's Earls Court in 2012. On 25 December 2016, Michael was found dead at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
In the early hours of 25 December 2016, Michael died in bed at his home in Goring-on-Thames, at the age of 53. He was found by his partner, Fadi Fawaz. In March 2017, a senior coroner in Oxfordshire attributed Michael's death to dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and a fatty liver.
Owing to the delay in determining the cause of death, Michael's funeral was held on 29 March 2017. In a private ceremony, he was buried at Highgate Cemetery in north London, on one side of his mother's grave. His sister Melanie is buried on the other side.
George and his sister both died on Christmas Day and their mom was born on Christmas Eve. That's crazy. So sad. George's voice is extremely underrated too. It was amazing. He made it seem effortless. RIP to all three of them.
Do you know how his sister died?
@@addicted367
According to a report, George's beloved sister Melanie died after falling into a diabetic coma as a result of diabetic ketoacidosis.
The hairdresser died from diabetic ketoacidosis, a complication caused by lack of insulin and sky-high blood sugar. Diabetes was given as an underlying cause of death.
The post-mortem report also recorded that other contributing factors to Melanie's death included hypertensive heart disease, obesity and bronchopneumonia.
@@addicted367 I read somewhere that she died of diabetic ketoacidosis after falling into a diabetic coma but I'm not sure if that's true or not.
Thank you
George died at 53, his mother at 58 and his sister at 59. I think his second sister is around 59 now, or is she still living?
Hi Scott I’m a landscape gardener and I did a massive job in George Micheal garden when he lived in goring England about 10 years ago. He offered us a cup of tea we obviously said yes. (Not thinking he’s actually gunna make it himself) but no 10 mins later out he comes with a tray of tea and biscuits! I gotta say the man could make a hell of a cup of tea! Such a nice bloke.
Oh my God that is so cool! I don't think I'd be able to drink it though, I would have been too nervous... And I don't like t e a either!!😄
That’s was a good day such a nice bloke.
I loved George Michael!
Me too ❤@@matayvonne4408
I still own my George Michael C.Ds. back in high school we made up a dance to hus song Faith. Haha I still remember every move. I LOVED it when George sang in the tribute to Freddie Mwrcury. I thought he was the BEST performer. I will always miss him. R.I.P Mr. Michael. 😇

Wow,for him and his sister to pass on the same day, years apart..Christmas, of all days..then his mom's birthday is Christmas Eve 😯 imagine the rest of the family and how they feel every year during the holiday..RIP to George, his mom and sis❤..your story of meeting him is awesome 😀
That was an awesome story. I too loved his music. Iremember listening to it daily while living in Japan in the mid 80’s and my 2 y/o son singing along with me.
What a fantastic story Scott and when you comet to the uk 🇬🇧 would love to meet up xx
My cousin was doing some security work for Elton Johns late mum sand was in Goring On Thames where George has his house and my cousin,Elton and Elton’s mum were at home and George phoned Elton for something and Elton sent my cousin over and my cousin and George were doing snow angels in his back garden and my cousin said he was a great guy to meet R.I.P George we all still miss you xxx
What an amazing story! I look forward to meeting you one day Claire!
I am a huge fan of George Michael. That story is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Scott so neat how you met george michael. he had such talent never met him but i loved his songs. 🥰from Vickie
I love the snow it is so beautiful great place you are so lucky to live there I love me some George Michaels
Thank you for sharing this! I'm also a George Michael fan and still can't get over that he's gone. What a tragedy. His mother and Anselmo died within a few years of each other..then George. And his sister three years later to the day. I'm glad that he & Melanie finally got their headstones. Imho there are still too many unanswered questions about his death. What exactly happened....why weren't the toxicology results released? What did Fadi really do - did he sleep in his car from Christmas Eve until the next day as he claimed, or was he in the house? I find it hard to believe that George would allow anyone to sleep outside on Christmas Eve. No way.
I have all the same questions. It’s very bizarre
when Michael was in California !! I was in 1 of his videos careless whispers.I had the best days my life
Thank You…and Thank You to Lisa also…
Love George Michael what a singer 👨🎤
I remember having a George Michael poster back in 87 huge crush lol
Awww he was a humble man that is amazing ❤❤❤❤
The orchestral French concert was unsurpassable. My unfulfilled plan was to see that performance. I did see him in Tampa, Fl., and had to beg and coax and pay a ticket to not go alone, to his returning to concerts after years away. He was phenomenal, and reticent of its possible acceptance. Yes I was shattered and still in ‘22 cannot fathom his loss.
Continue To Rejoice In Peace To The Late Great Mr. George Michael🕊
I'll always have a huge crush , Andrew Ridgely 🎼🎵🎼🎵🎼🎵
George Michael was such a talented person it’s unbelievable he’s gone. Great story Scott.
What an awesome tale of your meeting George - such a great memory! I hope you find the photos :)
George Michael was one of my favorite artists, too. His Mum and sister were lovely. Thank you for doing this video.
❤❤❤ george michaels voice and songs will always have a special place in my heart..truly missed
Thank you Scott , George Micheal was absolutely amazing, I miss him. I’m only 50 minutes from Highgate Cemetery in London, I heard George Micheals grave wasn’t on the tour, such a shame it’s not. I can’t believe it’s been nearly 7 years since his death, crazy how time fly’s. So sad about his sister Melanie dying on the same day as her brother, It does happen, My mum died on 3 April 1998 at 3.15 in the afternoon, and my mums mum died on the 3 April 1999 at 3.15 in the morning., my mum was 54, and her mum was 81., it’s amazing how that happens. Thanks Scott. Xx
GM one of the best singers❤️
Great Story Scott. George extraordinary talent was so underrated. I never saw him in concert. Him and Bob Marley are my favorite artist I wish I had seen. George was a Cancer. We are the most giving ,loving, and underrated sign of the zodiac. I wasn't surprised how much of a philanthropist he was During his life. Rest 🕊 Easy my MoonBrother.❤

Wow they all passed so young 🥺 beautiful memory Scott, I too felt like I was right there with you! I remember watching my first music video of George when I was around 7 growing up in Kenya. The name of the song escapes me but I loved him since. May he rest in peace 🕊💜
I adored George Michaels. I still love his music!!🎼
Love George, so sad when he passed, couldn't believe it. You are so lucky to have met him.
Great story Scott! I love George Michael. I never got to see him perform live and I wish I did. He had so much soul. I was devastated when he passed away. It didn't feel real. R.I.P George Michael ❤
Hi Scott,
George Michael was one of the world's greatest ever singer's and performer's.
You're right about how kind and charitable he was, he once worked at a night shelter handing out soup to homeless people he told the manager of the shelter "Please don't tell anyone i have helped you here".
That was the measure of the man.
He also once gave a lady 25,000 cheque in a cafe, after overhearing her
Crying and telling someone on the phone she was in 5,000 worth of debt. He signed the cheque for the lady and rushed out quickly so she couldn't find out it was George who gave her the cheque.
An amazing human being and singer will never be forgotten. RIP George Michael 🙏.
Great video scott Liverpool UK.
I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert once in 1988 during the FAITH tour
AW! cool experience, lucky you.
As a fellow George Michael fan, it was great to hear another story on the total generosity and kindness of this legend…I was gutted, like you, when the news broke of his death late Christmas Day in 2016 but hearing so many positive stories about how amazing he was just makes his passing even sadder…I live near George so hope to be able to pay my respects soon and visit his family grave, but I continue to listen to his amazing catalogue of music plus I’m constantly finding little gems I’ve not heard before including his duet with Tony Bennett…have a listen, it’s stunning!!
George was on the level of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and MaDonna. But you wouldn’t have known that towards the end of his life. Ask yourself this: How many artist do you know today, who write, arrange, produce, and play instruments? This man is gold. We miss you, George. Hope to meet you at the Edge of Heaven someday.
George performed a duet of "Don't let the sun go down on me" with Pavarotti. Look it up here on RUclips. It was amazing!
@@dianamanwaring4794 His song “Spinning the Wheel,” is epic, too. Love “Hand to Mouth “
'Fastlove ', and 'Outside' are my favourite songs. George, Bowie and Prince in the same year. Such a loss to music and the world. Fantastic artists ❤❤❤
Lovely story. He seemed like a genuinely kind person.
He was part of so many memories of my youth. RIP George.
The world lost a great talent and genuine person when George died. You know when you grow up and love a artist you think they will live forever that’s what I thought about George.
George Michael one of my mom’s favorite singers!!! A legend. RIP George ❤️
I love George Michael. Best concert I ever went to. He sang 3 and a half hours non stop. He was amazing. I was devastated when he passed away. There will never be another like him. I’m thankful we have his music. Your so lucky to have met him and had real conversation. Great video. 😊
George was such an amazing and talented artist. His music will stand the test of time!! He left us way too soon and had so much more to create and give! I hope he is at peace and creating his particular brand of music!! Love and miss you George, the world isn’t the same without you. 💜💜💔💔
He was so great. His music is so amazing. RIP
Thank you! His song "Careless Whisper" takes me back to my youth! 😁
George Michael had such a beautiful voice his live cover in France of ‘Let her down easy’ is sang with so much emotion...it is one of my favourites of his amazing music George Michael is very much missed by those of us here in the U.K also the world over may his beautiful soul be at peace x
That has to be the most beautiful cemetery I have ever seen 🤔
George Michael. Love him. Rest In Peace. His music is so peaceful to me. And so handsome. Very good entertainer he was. I hear his music everyday. 🎤👱🏻✝️💟🙏🏼
George was the best live artist I’ve ever had the pleasure to see. Elton John was with him the night I saw him in Wembley. 💔 When I hear his music, especially unexpected in a store, I still cry. Never could get my head around that he’s no longer with us. A remarkable artist and philanthropist. A huge loss to the world. Thank you for posting this, I didn’t know he now had a headstone along with his sister. x
I was at those concerts that week too! I loved George so much. Such a beautiful soul. Miss him so much. The greatest gift he left us was all that wonderful music. 💖

I am almost exactly 2 years younger than George 7-1-65 and I grew up with his music and saw him live twice, once during the Wham years and then during the faith tour and he had a fantastic voice and was a great song writer. I was stunned to hear of his passing and will always admire his music. What a great story you shared of meeting him👍good video.
He's especially on my mind at Christmas time. It hurt my heart when they announced that he had died. He's definitely missed. 🌹 RIP George
I REMEMBER HIM IN THE 80'S, HE WAS THE MOST TALENTED SINGER AND DOWN TO EARTH PERSON, EASY GOING AND WITH THE HEART OF GOLD AND I HAD A HARD TIME BELIEVING HIS PASSING,
Thank You’ Thank you” ♥️ I LOVE .. George Micheal/ ADORE HIM💝.. No One * Like Him *… Been Waiting For Something Like This ((of)) HIM😍.. Thank you.. “ AGAIN “. 🙏.
Scott you are too funny❣❣ You always have me rollin...😄
George Michael was my very first concert ever in 1988 The "Faith" tour❣
The concert was awesome and I still have some pictures from the concert even though George was a tiny little dot-(Nosebleed Section❣) it was so cool to be there and breathing the same air as he was❣🥰🥂's
Every Christmas I get so sad remembering that he's no longer with us when I hear "Last Christmas" I tear up...😪 R.I.P. GEORGE⚘🥀
This is so incredible! What a beautiful grave.
Loved hearing your story about meeting George. Our man is beautiful both inside and out 💜 I cannot talk of George in a past tense as it breaks my heart 💜
Originally from England but living in Toronto, Canada....on my 19th Birthday my brother took me to see George Michael who I'd always loved. George had the audience sing his sister Mel happy Birthday and it turned out my Birthday and his sisters Birthday were the same day, the day of the concert....October 22nd ❤. So my brother was really singing Happy Birthday to me while George was singing to his sister....I'll always remember that day ❤. I loved your autograph story so much...I'm often in Yorkville....I will go to that spot next time I am there! I cried when I heard he died and have cried since thinking of him. I think he lived and his dad's business was around were I was born in Edgware, Middlesex, London.
If you like, I’m having a viewer meet up on Sunday April 24th at 3-5 pm at Soulas Restaurant on the Danforth! 500A Danforth avenue
George Michael was my favourite singer as a kid. I listened to the Beatles, Bowie & Elvis but George struck a chord with me. He was the 1st artist I became a fanatic over as a teen...even tried to do my hair like him! My heart was absolutely crushed the day he died. So sad that his personal hairstylist/sister died the same day years later. I'm soooo envious that you got to meet him!! You're soooo lucky!! Thanks for this, dude!!!
Oh Wow Scott ! I was also a huge George Michael fan and also WHAM as well. I miss him. RIP George Michael 🙏 😢 💔 thanks for you sharing your personal encounter with him and his gravesite!! Love your vlogs!!! Stay safe and well !!!
A simple Headstone for such a Great Man ,thats just how George would have wanted it , R.I.P Legend as you are surely missed ,R.I.P to George's Beloved Mum and Sister too 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
You’re right about how charitable George Michael was. Not only that he made sure his friends were taken care of financially. Andrew Ridgeley will never have to worry about being poor. And the rest of his friends who were in Wham!
You're very lucky to meet George Michael because some of us never got the chance to meet him or go to his concert because were poor
Lord beautiful man the talent what can you say wow wham. Am glad his not alone up in paradise his mom and sister may you truly rip George wish you knew your own worth
george was a great singer and is sadly missed here in england one of our true greats who was just the person you thought he was
Great story and great video Scott! I'm a huge George Michael fan and grew up as a teen in the 80's listening to his music! My favorite songs are Everything she wants and Don't let the sun go down on me live with Elton John in 1991! ♥️😊
The Paris Opera House concert is simply amazing!
I wish they had mentioned what a talented musician he was. Seems like disrespectful for his whole lifes work to not be on his headstone. Such a loss that he isnt still with us. One of my fave artists hands down. Thanks for sharing Scott!
That's what I was thinking. It seemed very odd. Even just his stage name in quotes under his real name would have been a step in that direction. Anyone passing by who didn't know his real name would never know the impact that the person lying below made on people.
It's how his family wanted it, And no doubt George. The funeral was small and private too. If you know about George, He was a very private person despite being a superstar. And now he is together with his beloved mother, And now his sister.. In a nice family plot no bells n whistles. People who loved this man will continue to through his music and know who he is. And can easily find the cemetery and the plot if they want to visit.. I live 2 miles from Highgate and have been myself.
Спасибо Братишка!
Respect from Russia 🖤
That’s so awesome you got to meet him! I love George Michael’s music. He seemed very humble.
George Michael was so special to me, His music was essential. It’s a shame He’s not mentioned more. Thank you for making this video I couldn’t click fast enough when I found it. ❤️
