@@prandomable - Probably a Jon Boat, I have a Kayak just purchased it and a Jon Boat I've had a year. Honestly the Jon will go almost anywhere the Kayak will, if your willing to tilt the motor up and do some good ol fashioned paddling lol.
I had one attack me twice in 10 minutes. First time it came up under the yak and lifted me out and the second time was when I was padding away as fast as I could. Spun the whole 13 foot yak 180 degrees. After that no more night fishing in Florida unless it’s below 50 for a solid week
Great video man! I'm considering getting a kayak. This has relieved some of my fear. When I was younger I used to wade bass fishing in a lake where there were gators, several of them. What the heck, no fear when I was a teen.
I was out kayaking lake Palestine in east Texas march 9, 2023, a day before my birthday. When I got into the north side of the lake into Kickapoo all seemed fine. I came around that island bend then I had felt a thump and then a few seconds later all I had seen was a massive gators head clamped down on the right side of my kayak. Me and my kayak got lifted and thrown about 4 ft up in the air. Luckily the gator didn't come after me when I landed in the water. I gathered my things under the water and put it back into my kayak. Then I went over to that island and just sat there trembling for a bit questioning my life decisions... I figured the gator was chasing something and I was in the wrong place at the right time. A few minutes later a guy in a bass boat and a game warden came over to where I was asking if I was okay or needed help. Told them I am fine and uninjured. The warden said, there's gators over here by the way! I said, ya think captain obvious?! I made my way over to the Kickapoo creek boat ramp and had a friend come pick me up. My kayak luckily didn't get punctured but now it has a lot of scratches on it. To put how big and strong this gator is into perspective. I'm 6'4 and weight 260, my kayak and my gear is an additional 75-80 pounds. Not going to lie at all. I was so surprised, scared, and caught off guard that I had pissed myself while I was in the air.
see you had to find out the hard way that's scary falling in gator infested waters you an example when fishing in Florida or Texas.... only fish on the beach side stay out them lakes and swamps glad you ok but your story is a lesson for me all it takes is one bad move one bad let me go to the lake and fish knowing its gators in the lake your headed to i have leant from your mistakes i will not go where you went stay my butt in the bay and ocean... i got a saying (If it ant sandy i don't want to plandy).... Gators are harmless in south Louisiana in the marsh we have a fishing spot that we have to walk too and we are always standing next to gators they just steal your bait alot
Generally speaking, gators have a healthy respect for items larger than they are. Re: If your boat/kayak is larger than the gator your probably looked upon as being a threat to the gator. However, gators can reach 13+ feet in length and over 700lbs. Yes, I've said before "I need a bigger boat."
Sure wished i hadn't closed the video just before the end. HEard "pet em on the head" and that was all i needed to hear. I closed the browser and went kayaking. Now i'm typing one handed. sub'd tho.

And when you stop treating them with the respect and attention they deserve as a large carnivorous predator, that's when you disappear. So many foolish statements here about how gators are safe to be around. The south really is chock full of idiots.
Correction: you’re not something they wanna eat while ur on ur kayak/land. If they see anything struggling in the water u best bet its going to try to drown it or bite it. Respect them and you’ll be fine.
I was stalked by a 14 foot gator once , I had a tent set up at night and was fishing off the high bank and it was slowly climbing up the bank straight at me , I had no food or fish with me , so I know for a fact it was after me
I love to get in the shallows with my waiters on while fishing. The gators will swim right up beside me sometimes and bump up against my leg and just swim away, a few will hang around as if they’re watching me fish, but yes you’re correct they won’t harm you unless it’s mating season.

Not the same thing at all. Africa has Crocs which are much more aggressive and will basically kill and eat anything that moves. Death by alligators is ridiculously rare. If you drive a vehicle then you do something much more dangerous than kayaking near gators.
