  • A new Flashlight just became available from Acebeam and it looks sneaky close to the Olight I5R. But does it really compare?

    It's me, again. Can you recommend a grease or oil or lube that would work well on flashlight threads (to make them a little more water proof and dust proof) while not causing the rubber o-rings to deteriorate? (I'm thinking maybe a lithium grease would be good, but not sure.)
    Thanks in advance for your time and help i n this matter!🗯👍

      I asked on reddit and someone mentioned Superlube's Synthetic grease with PTFE(Syncolon). I found a tube at a local gun store in southern Europe so I expect it to be available anywhere.
      Chose this 'cause Emisar, Convoy, Sofirn told me they use silicone o-rings. Silicone grease would be incompatible. Fenix mentions "rubber" for one of my lights so I assumed it wasn't silicone rubber and I didn't use the same lube.

    Thanks to this review I actually pulled the trigger on getting the Acebeam just now (over the i5R I’ve been wanting for so long). I have two of the i3Ts which I regularly EDC, and a Warrior Mini II. However I wanted something in between that was re-chargeable (with the option of using backup AAs when camping). The fact this has the memory aspect and low lumens was a real decider for me. Thanks again for your help! Really enjoying your channel :)

    I’ve had the i3T for years for pocket carry, but have recently been considering an upgrade for the Zanflare that lives on the side of my Leatherman sheath, (which has been a fantastic light BTW),
    I literally just order the Acebeam for $16.95!

    Great video. Given your review, and seeing that both are so very similar I bought both. However, I bought the Olight HCRI version in blue (285 Lumen vs 350). Reviews are showing that fella at around 95 CRI and 4500K (a great neutral tint), but they don't specify which emitter they use. The HCRI was $35 and the Pokelit was $20 in the dark green with a 10% off coupon. Given that I like the features on both, I forsee myself carrying both. The runtimes are a bit wonky like you said, with the Olight having a better high run time, but what throws me off is the medium on the Pokelit, only being 2hrs. I would have figured the medium would have been more around 3-3.5 hours.

    I've been getting really curious about using Olight's proprietary 2.4v "AA" battery in other flashlights. Seems to me that as long as the host flashlight doesn't have some kind of low voltage protection, a person could get a really nice boost in output while still maintaining decent runtime compared to a 14500.
    Food for thought, perhaps.

    I like them both but personally I prefer the acebeam low, med, high settings. I will say however the i5r has a larger battery 🔋 in mah. If I were to recommend one to my brother it would be the acebeam. I paid $16 on amazon for the acebeam much less than I paid for the olight. To me they are so similar in appearance I believe they could be made on the same factory line. I don't believe you will be disappointed in either light. We need olight to be more competitive in prices.

    I had just ordered an Olight I5Tplus , I EDC carry a flashlight truly every day. I want as many Lumens as possible that I can comfortably carry. I was excited about this being fairly bright 550 Lumens and be able to shirt pocket carry. I went on an Acebeam search and did indeed find the green one at $19. However I found a 1,000 Lumen model Acebeam !!😮🎉 I like 1,000 Lumens as my first line of self defense. Especially effective in low light but always valuable. I have seen a 1,000 lumen light put a person on their knees nauseous and disabled in a fully lit room. Yes like lots of people watching this , I have TO MANY flashlights 😂

    Last update: Light took a fall from about 12’. It broke, glass broke and it won’t come on any more. Emailed seller. They said they’d warranty. We’ll see. Great light, just don’t drop it.
    Update: So far so good. I actually prefer it over my Olight i5T plus. I feel like it’s brighter, on medium and low light is perfect for looking into control panels above ceiling. Two complaints, 1) not necessarily bad, clip is tight out of the box. It frayed the stitching on my jean pocket. 2) It scratches easily like my olight did. I carry it next to my knife and it rubs the green right off.
    Original: Just ordered one. I have the Olight i5t plus, it’s a great light, but too too heavy for the clip to be usable on a hat. Hoping this one works better to put on a hat brim. Need it for working above ceiling grid, just need to see a max of 15-20 feet, if that. Low mode should be great for working close up.

  • @hulsterhulster5363
    @hulsterhulster5363 Год назад +1

    First of all I am not an Olight fan, more the opposite because of their long term quality.
    Regarding the Olight battery. Did not go thru all the comments. So maybe double entry.
    So I guess the idea behind the propertary one is the following: The second option is an AA. They likely thought it could be a good idea to optimize the light for low voltage. So you will not note a big difference when you use an AA. Further more you can optimize the capacity on the lower voltage and THAT is the reason for the longer runtimes and not any big optimisation on the driver. The capacity on the proprietary battery is around 1400 mAh while on the standard used in Acebeam around 900 mHa.
    So a perspective could be the Olight is the better backup flashlight especially for less experienced people. The default battery last longer, it has only 2 modes and starts on low always.
    Still I like the Pokelit more. First of all for the LED used. I am not a fan of high color temp bigger then 5000 K anymore.

    Flashlights and the runtimes are really a hugely misunderstood thing unless you are into them..in truth how long do we truly use a flashlight at any given time?..as the saying goes your individual mileage may vary..some won't admit it but we've became so spoiled to the modern technology of flashlights that we seem to forget that only 12 years ago we were astounded by 120 lmns up to 200 lmns.. So to have a medium lmn of 190 and high lmn of 550 (acebeam) should be blowing our minds due to the size of flashlight that can do it..gotta love technology!!

    • @sharkey5150
      @sharkey5150 Год назад

      I agree,both of these batteries, the one in the O’light and the Ace are “proprietary” and possibly different technologies. KalatSaar You are correct an “AA battery” is 1.5volts everywhere, that is the standard for AA batteries across the world. If You were to put either of these “proprietary” batteries in a AA rated device, you would kill your device. An actual AA Duracell is rated at 1.5 volts at 1500mah. It wouldn’t be able to make either light work at all. So, you have the O’light designed to run on less voltage of 2.4 volt rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that has density of 1420 mah, also, it needs to be charged via a charger. The Ace flashlight designed to run on its proprietary 3.7V Lithium Ion rechargeable battery BUT, it has its own Charger/charging circuitry built in to the battery that you can plug into any USB C and it would charge itself to correct voltage. So, the O’light is 2.4 volts but, in theory, has 500mah more power density than the Ace. That’s about a 1/3 more again in theory, on paper, should run longer. So sorry to add more confusion into the mix but, I just wanted to help, if I could. Especially “KalatSaar” with his AA battery question. Wouldn’t want KalatSaar to put one of these lithium ion batteries in a AA device and smoke the device. Seems I added a lot more to consider between these devices. If you go to Amazon and look up 2.4volt Lithium ion, then look up 3.7 volt lithium ion battery you would see the latter are basically “Smart Batteries” with a built in charger you plug into USB C. A true 1s or 1 cell lithium ion battery, are rated at 3.7 volts, in the hobby world of FPV Drones, RC cars, etc. they usually charge up to 4.2 volts of but, they should be used right away then stored at 3.7Volts. Lots more confusion. I think I’m gonna go with the $20 Ace although O’light has a reputation that used to not be so good, Are they getting better?

    Look I will make it simple. From long experience with Olights, their proprietary batteries only last about half as long as they say and then need to be replaced with another Very Expensive proprietary battery. The weakness of the Olight is the battery, they are proprietary so you have to use their batteries, they are not good at longevity, they just don't last with regular use and they are FREAKING expensive. If you don't use your Olight on a regular basis (like daily) you may not realize what poor quality a Olight cell really is. For me this was a no brainer at the current sale price I bought two Acebeams.
