That’s dumb lol. That’s what he already did. He’s a really good defender. But he has no offensive skill. Can’t shoot the ball. He hasn’t shot the ball well since he was 16😂
Cam is a perfect example of what I mean when I say AAU ball is ruining these players. It teaches them to be iso reliant and they don’t know how to play system basketball, they can only score and shoot in a rhythm. But what happens when you fall in the draft and you don’t get 20-30 touches per game they literally don’t know what to do with themselves
Yup the explosion of aau has destroyed many fundamentals of the game and as you said many young bball players today are comin up not knowin how to play a role some get to the league and are able to adapt but many end up like cam and completely floppin out the league after their rookie deal expires
Exactly. Kobe said it best.l years ago AAU is going to ruin a lot of young kids and water down the game. Which is one of the reasons why some parts of the game are so bad nowadays
As a guy who was a victim to this, the coaches will tell players "I'll only start players that can shoot and dribble." What do you think players will only work on to get more minutes? They really didn't prioritize the little things like rebounding and defense cause they assumed it'll be automatic with the players they liked
As a Duke fan, people really fail to realize that Cam committed to Duke before Zion and RJ. I really love Cam Reddish, but really wish he decommitted after specifically RJ committed too. It was great to have on the team, but it seemed to stunt his growth and confidence that he had so much of.
His biggest mistake was not decommiting from Duke when Zion and RJ committed. Cam was a point forward for his entire high school career. He should have gone into a system that allowed him to be a lead guard (like Trae Young at OK). Solidifying himself at that point forward role would have pushed NBA teams to play him at that position. Playing the 3 and D at Duke made NBA teams categorize him as a wing. Top recruits should learn from this and go to a school that’ll allow them to showcase their strengths. Don’t just commit to these blue blood programs because of their rep.

I’ve been watching basketball for so long that I can sort of see it if i watch someone long enough. We can obviously think of other names that immediately come to mind that we don’t need to say out loud who also fit this description.
Cam reddish may not be an all star but when the hawks drafted him in first round in the 2019 draft they wanted him to develop like a star just like Trae did in the 2018 draft. But as years went by the hawks traded him for basically nothing. Because remember the 2022 first round pick the hawks traded for after they traded reddish? They receive basically nothing in return for him just a half a season in Knox. That's why his career took a downhill since he got traded to the knicks then again to the Blazers now in his 6th season we don't even know if he is improving or not. That's why nobody might not pick up reddish who shot below 35 percent from three.
People love to hate on overseas when many players can make more over there than the NBA especially the ones like Cam Reddish who arent superstars here. Kenneth Faried making almost 5 million a season lol
The reason the Hawks traded him was not bc they didn’t see potential but bc he walked into Travis office and told him that he wanted a bigger role on the team aka be a top 2 scoring option. That’s why he was traded for merely nothing at the time.
I wish he never went to duke. He didn’t develop the way he needed too. Cam is basically almost out the league if he doesn’t work out with the lakers. I wish he was drafted by another team. The hawks didn’t need him.
I heard so many people say that all Cam Reddish needed was the right fit and he’d blossom. Yes, fit matters for sure, but Reddish has been on four teams now and has never shown any signs of improvement. You could actually argue he’s gotten worse. I think it’s past time we admit he’s simply not a good NBA player. You could also say all of this about Bol Bol.
He's been so important to the Lakers at times & LeBron just believes in this guy so much. He is definitely difficult though. You can see that he doesn't even like the pressers. I hope he does better & I would e call him a bust. He is what he is.
He isn’t that good of a defender. The idea of his defense is much better than his actual on court D. Look it up stats wise he’s a league defender at best. There’s 0 excuse that a supposed playoff team lets this guy close some games or ever starts him. He’s a bench player on a lottery team type of player at this point of his career. You can’t prioritize him anymore as he’s been an utter disappointment but giving him 15-20 min off the bench on a lottery bound team is worth it. Let him run around play some D and hope he can knock down some open shots at a 35% clip.
Some of my fellow Knicks fans swore Cam could be a superstar, because he could do a couple of AND1 moves. They will die on a hill when they pick a player to stan for. Same with Obi and other bums we've drafted. They blame everyone, but the players for not developing. It's almost like they get off on being delusional.
I think it's ok if a guy doesn't become a superstar like he was projected. If he is a solid role player then that's not a bad thing because that's a role that literally every team needs filled. The thing with Reddish is that people can't seem to get over what they thought he would be at this point. I get it...i'm a huge fan of his and i'm a Duke fan, but not every projected top pick is going to end up being a superstar in the NBA if they even make it there in the first place.
Cam reddish to me is like a poor mans jeff green, same kinda story guy has the perfect build all the talent, showed heaps of flashes even in the nba but just lacked that ability to lut it all together night after night.
I love Cam. Still wish him the best. But he broke my heart. What they say about him before the draft was true - ''The biggest enigma of the draft.'' I wish we knew more about behind the scenes stuff that maybe would help us Cam-believers rationalize what happened to this dude.
He’s definitely not a bust … the bust is the development of these young stars in the league . No 18-19 year old should go to the league unless if you have it all together. Too many people are in their ears tellin em to go
He’s not necessarily that bad, if Reddish let’s go of the idea that he’s a superstar and works on accepting his role as a role player, he can be a really valuable 3&D wing. And then maybe after a few seasons of working on his craft, he can find a bigger role when he’s developed his skills enough.
The 1st time I ever saw Cam Reddish play in HS I just knew that he's going to be the next NBA superstar. I even rejoiced when he got drafted by my hometown team the Atlanta Hawks...I actually think going to Duke hurt his development as a player because he had to take a backseat to Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett
Go watch the pod with Lebron and Redick. Lebron says his success is the product of good coaching, a bit of god given talent, and luck. The AAU circuit and his previous coaches failed Reddish. A foundation was not was never built and he coasted on just talent. Now, he's having to build that foundation in the NBA amongst the best with very little room to make mistakes. Just tough all around. I hope he figures it out.
He has had an ankle injury that he has consistently missed time because of since Duke. Its whats keeping him from being consistent and getting off the ground as a Star.
He isn't being used correctly, just standing in the corners isn't going to build his confidence, solely playing defense and not getting offensive chances totally crashes 1s self-esteem..
If he gets more humbled , he can be a very good role player 3and D lockdown defence and 3 point open shots , all he needs is not getting bad offensive decisions
I definitely think injuries hasn't helped him, but honestly he fits good with the lakers just needs to be confident and hit the corner three and slash when it makes sense.
Shouldve stayed an extra year at duke, horrible efficiency at duke, I remember thinking tre jones is way better than him and questioned the hype around cam
I still think if cam didn’t request a trade from the hawks who hadn’t even fully given up on him yet he would’ve been better off. Instead he got traded to the knicks who already had a lot of forwards then Portland who also had a lot of forwards.
You guys are all living under a rock if you aren’t aware Cam has been balling out for the lakers, outstanding defence and hustle while bringing some scoring at times
I think he would have been better if he was able to go to the G League straight from high school instead of going to Duke, or if he just went to a different school. He had a pro game.. but I think being forced to play into the system, on top of being the 3rd option in that same system.. messed him up in a lot of ways. Just an analysis
He’s still probably one of the best one on one players in all of basketball the problem is in a 5 v 5 if you can’t consistently shoot you can no longer play in the nba. If he gets a consistent 3pt shot and the defense has to come close to him he will then be able to showcase his atheletic ability and finish at the basket until then he’s simply not a viable nba player. See Russel Westbrook, Ben Simmons. Hes really not a bust the league is situational even at duke by him becoming and off ball player that negates his best skills. He simply needs to learn to shoot really well from three and not off the dribble. That’s it. Not everyone can have the ball in their hands in the nba that’s a. Privilege afforded to very few
I’ve watched every laker game this season and I just wish we didn’t have so many injuries so we didn’t have to play him,but darvin Ham has a strange love for him,his trash on offense and overrated as a defender
Actually this is easy, he’s talented, like 95% of 1st rounders but then it’s about fit and coaching. The 5% are so talented they could play anywhere the 95% are going to be role players, and can develop into good-great players based work ethic, attitude, and opportunity. The other side of it is being healthy also. You see the thing about the NBA it’s a grown Man’s game, nothing like college where you around peers all the time, students same age, similar lifestyles, you can make mistakes, and many of the coaches have a mentoring type of mentality. It’s competitive but allows you to grow and develop for those who stay. It also allows you to further learn how to be coached, criticized, and are often much more focused on fundamentals. In pro, you’re expected to know it and it’s more about skill development. Super competitive and you can be replaced quickly. But if you know about sports it’s better to be grounded in the fundamentals which then will enhance your skill development. So many of today’s NBA players are super skilled, but not grounded in the fundamentals of the game. The other side of that is being on a team where it’s a good fit. You see this all the time, a player sits for another team I get some limited minutes gets traded to another team, and all of a sudden he looks like an all star. It’s definitely about fit and opportunity, and politics, contracts, even marketing. I like Cam, I think he can be a really good player and just has to put his head down, work and learn. The funny thing from a defensive side. He is what the Lakers need. Just not consistent offensively. It’s also a lot tougher in today’s analytics game which I think is more frosting than substance. With a lot of the GM’s push and coaches three point shooting which is important however, at the end of the game how many times does it just come down to getting a bucket which nine times out of ten is a 2pt basket, but you see teams wasting possession on forced 3 pt shots which is a common theme in the NBA.
Its not that he failed he just has been asked to do stuff thats not his specialty. Lakers want him to be a 3 point shooter when he's more of just a pure scorer. Theres a chance he breaks out this playoffs if used rite. Everything needs to go through him, spencer and rui in that second unit. If the coach let them rock itll work
This basically boils down to, he wasn’t a good enough shooter. If he could just shoot he’d last in the nba a long time with his defense and length. Not giving up on him.
He hangs in the corner way to much for the abilities he has need to move and flash more on offense and Hustle for rebounds lose ball steal on defense. Cam has so much potential just need to change his play still. I say mimic Ant Man would be a good start.
Cam has always been a really talented guy but he has never been better than Zion at any point in their lives. I’ve watched them both since HS. To think that he would be a better pro is so strange.
He didn’t wanna be patient with ATL. He was supposed to be the 2nd star next to Trae. He was injured a lot in his first 2 seasons. Then asked for trade in his third season 🫤 This is besides the point but he has #22 tatted and he only wore #22 in Atlanta
Exactly. Bogi and Huerter were huge for them when Cam went down his second season. All Cam needed to do was keep his head down and put in the work. Prime example of that is Jalen Johnson. He did he time in the g league his rookie year, and this year he worked his way off the bench into the starting lineup.
Yall a bunch of people that don’t know basketball. Cam still that guy. He’s just uncomfortable offensively with the Lakers. Once he finds his rhythm offensively it’s over! He’s only 24 people relax! The Lakers won the “in season tournament” bc of him…chillout.
Cam reddish need to understand that he’s not a star but if he can humble him self he can be one of the best 3 and D guys in the league

Update: how cam reddish's career had the nail in the coffin on the lakers
He’s reviving his career on the Lakers.
I like Cam. Dude is such a pest off the ball. He plays with relentless grit! Getting steals no other player cares to make an effort for.
It’s still so crazy to me duke got Cam, Zion and RJ Barrett 🤯
I can’t wait till swish county blows up w a ton of subs. So underrated
It’s his confidence he’s in his head he has the skill to be top 5 jus not the mental
Its not that he failed he just has been asked to do stuff thats not his specialty. Lakers want him to be a 3 point shooter when he's more of just a pure scorer. Theres a chance he breaks out this playoffs if used rite. Everything needs to go through him, spencer and rui in that second unit. If the coach let them rock itll work
Do Shairfe Cooper
It’s simple he don’t got that dog in him
This basically boils down to, he wasn’t a good enough shooter. If he could just shoot he’d last in the nba a long time with his defense and length. Not giving up on him.
If only rj barrett and cam reddish could switch mentalities. Cam would be an all star minimum
at some point Ham played him so much minutes, even started him. i hated it, he never delivered.
He hangs in the corner way to much for the abilities he has need to move and flash more on offense and Hustle for rebounds lose ball steal on defense.
Cam has so much potential just need to change his play still. I say mimic Ant Man would be a good start.
And to think they ranked him a higher espn prospect over RJ lol barrett already looking ready to break out with the raps next year
Dude could literally score at will and has the size too be a great defender but only likes play twice a month.
i knew he would be a bust the moment he admitted on First Take to Stephen A Smith that he had a poor diet the entire time at Duke.
He still has time for a career resurgence. He just have to find his role & accept it.
Cam has always been a really talented guy but he has never been better than Zion at any point in their lives. I’ve watched them both since HS. To think that he would be a better pro is so strange.
Anybody who watching the NBA knows he doesn’t get a fair share so show how good he really is.
I really thought he was gon make noise in ny
Am i tripping for thinking he reminds me of Kyle Kuzma, comments?
Sorta both have similar offensive shortcomings but Kuzma was a draft steal not a draft flop
Yes, you are
@@utah.b.6257fax Kuz can actually score
@@swishcountyproductionsfacts that 💯 kyle wasnt pose to be like this he wanted it tho
Honestly if Cam had went to the Knicks instead of RJ I think he would be a better nba player than RJ right now
The hawks gave his bad shooting a chance👎
5 mill a year I’ll take that .. only 24 still have plenty of time
Cam needs to figure it out otherwise he'll be long gone in nba. he needs the mamba mentality, i wish kobe still alive to train this dude
Cam Reddish - Charmander
Brandon Ingram- Charmeleon
Kevin Durant - Charizard
It’s levels 😂😂
They need have players stay at least 2 years in school
Lacks the drive to be the best. Same at duke.
yeah notice how when he starts on the lakers theres zero energy
Yall a bunch of people that don’t know basketball. Cam still that guy. He’s just uncomfortable offensively with the Lakers. Once he finds his rhythm offensively it’s over! He’s only 24 people relax! The Lakers won the “in season tournament” bc of him…chillout.
It’s his mentality
How ya name Reddish and you don’t see the flags
i see what you did there
Maybe he is good at a high school and college level. But he either doesn’t have the heart to compete at the nba level or he’s not that good for nba.
