Honestly, as someone who grew up poor as fuck, uniforms were an absolute lifesaver; not having to worry about being embarrassed or having the piss taken out of you for having ratty old clothes. I still remember the dread I felt starting sixth form, where we don't have uniforms, knowing I didn't have enough clothes to even get through a week

Now uniforms are a p take the prices are ridiculous unless you have a school who allows tescos uniforms.😂

@@lauralouise1646That isn’t an issue anymore. A law passed last year that banned schools from forcing students to buy uniforms with logo or from private suppliers.

@DemiLeigh-el3oe Not where I live, spent at least £400 on two boys' uniforms (not including bags, etc..) then on top of that you have the new p.e kits that cost £80 each then on top again my eldest needed construction wear as he's going to technical college 2 times a week. Then you have your shoes, coat, pencils and cases school bag etc..All added together is 2 much nowadays. I wish things where like the good old days of cheap or hand me down uniforms lol

As other commenters noted Public schools are private in the UK - he is talking about State Schools

His video is the English school system. There are different systems in the other UK countries. I believe that England and Wales are the most similar, but Scotland is quite different.

Private schools in the U.K. are called “Public” because the original ones were founded in the 15 and 16th century when the only other alternatives were provided by the monasteries, so it’s public as opposed to ecclesiastical. Not public as opposed to private. The term just stuck, so we refer to non fee paying schools as “state schools “

I think both school systems should be judged by the results. Both school systems have consistently lowered standards over the years, According to the 2022 PISA ratings, the USA ranks 9th in the world for reading, 16th for science and 34th for mathematics. The UK ranks 13th for reading, 15th for science & 14th for mathematics. Both countries have dropped over the past two decades admittedly that is partly due to more countries participating in the PISA survey, but their scores have also declined.

This is the wrong video to watch if you want to learn anything about British schools ! The guy's presentation is shocking !!
PUBLIC schools in the UK are what we call PRIVATE/FEE PAYING schools.
The equivalent to an American public school in the UK is a STATE school.
In the UK we don't have GPA, EXTRA CREDITS, FRESHMEN, SOPHAMORS, GRADUATION after finishing high school ( only for university leavers), SEMESTERS, SCHOOL SHOOTINGS , SCHOOL SECURITY GUARDS, PLEDGING ALLEGANCE TO A FLAG !!
Scottish schools are different. They have different exams. They have HIGHERS instead of GCSEs.
At university you only take ONE subject. None of these " must take" extras like in America !

This is just a crappy gag reel with a terrible narrator. I’m not saying do it dead serious, but what I like most is to be informed with a bit of humour thrown in.
I went to Comprehensive(Secondary) school in the 80’s and it was called detention, still is as far as I know. Our school did not have a uniform, but it is a lot more popular now which is generally a good idea except maybe for the parents having to buy the uniforms which can cost a bit each year as kids grow.
U.K. main differences from US. No guns, no metal detectors, no security guards.

    • @NK-bj8li
      @NK-bj8li 2 месяца назад

I was at secondary in the last 10 years and it is definitely still called detention.
Also, although not common, a lot more UK schools have been installing metal detectors, predominantly in places where knife crime is higher like certain parts of London.

Totally inaccurate video. British public schools are where the elites go as in Eton - schools where rich, Royal
family, aristocracy etc. This guy should have said British states schools. Why do people ( not you the guy) do a video on something he obviously knows little about 🙄
