IIRC most if not all NCAA Div 1 arenas have their bench layouts like this. I think its to stop players on the bench from chirping each other. Definitely weird tho, as a scorekeeper I'd hate to not be centered on the ice, seeing the far end corners would be such a pain in the ass

Fight.......attempt to start the game......Fight..... game started.....fight.....attempt to start the game. By the 5 second mark of the game.......there had been 5 fights. LOL. Gotta love minor league hockey
