I've sold Miller welders for 21 years after using all brands in the field as a millwright and pipe welder. I tell people that you'll only buy a Miller once. It'll last forever and do a killer job. Great fair review.
Thanks man! This is a common opinion and for good reason. Miller has earned the reputation they have by building great equipment 👍. Thanks for watching
boards in synchro wave and 350P were sketchy. don't know about the newer stuff. If you've been at it for 21 years and don't know this you are either a troll or a salesperson
@@peetky8645 I have plenty of Syncrowaves and 350 P out there running fine. They do like clean input power, but other than that, they run great here in America. Sorry about your luck in only running old machines.
That’s false as fuck. We have miller’s at work cause that’s all my company buys. We have a room full of broken ones lol That said they are quality, and are used hard. But they break just as much as anyone else.
I've got a Miller Autoset 211, which is small and light enough to carry into the house and keep in a closet. That thing welds like a big industrial machine. I highly recommend Miller stuff.
I've had this exact unit for 3 months. The MM 220 is my 4th intermediate sized unit and yes there are larger units offered by Miller. In short this bad boy is very versatile as a multi Mig, Tig, Stick system. I currently am using it for Body repair, sub frame enhancements, safety cage, metal, aluminum fabrication, house machine. This is truly a 3 in one set, run and done. Not that you will need this however, there's a settings recs page under the main storage lid just in case you haven't memorized functions voltage versus materials/ wire gauge which by the way its also pre programmed in the welder. For the money, this is a big function kit in a reasonable price! 3 welders in one! Its twist DIN connect 110v 220v convertible! I just wished Miller added a Miller Inferno Digital Elite helmet with this excellent kit....... pardon the pun. Your review is spot on!
I bought one of these a year ago with a spoolmate 100, I love the multimatic but spoolmate is junk. This year I bought a bobcat 260 so I'm still Miller all the way.
I've been welding and fabricating for a long time. I have 2 millers, 1 Chinese tig and 2 holbart welders and its good advise to spend as much as u can but I'd say alway buy a 220 volt welder at least
Great video! I agree, the professional grade machines make ALL the difference. 3k is a lot, but that is a WHOLE LOT OF MACHINE for the $$. Miller products ROCK! I have had my MIG welder for 15yrs now and it Never skips a beat. Keep up your Excellent work! Love the channel.
While watching this the ad that popped up was for Visa large purchase payments :) great video! I need to upgrade my Lincoln 140 but realize I can wait.
Thank you Nate. I took your advice and purchased what I felt I needed and could afford at this time. I'm very happy with the Lincoln 230/180 MIG & Flux Core wire feed welder. I've got a lot of learning to do and this welder is a great entry level unit. Lincoln is well known in the industry so getting supplies is easy at almost any weld shop. As soon as I got a gas bottle my welds came out much better.
I had been eyeing up the multimatic 220, and then I saw this video over on your review channel. I immediately went and ordered one and have NEVER regretted it. If you can possibly afford this machine, buy it. If you do any amount of fabrication you won’t regret it.
I have used Miller and Hobart welders most of my life. I just recently purchased a Vulcan Omni Pro 220 from Harbor Freight. WOW, this machine is amazing it does everything. Mig, Tig, Stick dual voltage. It is also has a processor for setting it up with type and thickness of material. Very easy to setup and adjust on the fly. Welder itself is less than 1K, with everything for Tig, Stick and it was 1300.00. Great welder that I highly recommend taking a look at, especially if you dont want to spend 2k on a welder. Thanks for the great videos, keep it up.
Bear in mind the Miller 220 now (2023 May) lists for $4200 less a $300 rebate. Most of the non-Blue/Reds did not plump up nearly that much in the last year. Oink Oink is what I hear in the background, and that is b4 you look at actual capability and features.
Over the years I went through the need it now/cheap. Vs forever tool situation. Being younger I went from a new 30gallon compressor to a used 60gallon that failed. After doing research h and waiting I got a hell of a deal on a 2stage IR 80 gallon on Black Friday and got TSC to match a harbor 20% freight coupon. Did the same thing on welders. I got a Hobart 140, them grew into 187handler. While I thought I'd never need more than a 187handler for mig years past and I think I got a forever machine with an esab em235ic I picked up and couldn't be happy with it's capabilities, 15ft lead, dual voltage and duty cycle. If I could do it again if have saved for the better tool first time around and had more money for other things by getting a machine I could "grow "into using vs. the it gets the job done today. Keep up the great vids, I look forward to watching all your content Nate
I have one of their plasma cutters I bought maybe 10 or 12 years ago off the top of my head, I think its model number is something like 625. I don't use it all the time, but when I need it, I need it. I have abused it, it has gotten wet, stored in a humid environment, and it still works well. I have a multimatic as well. I like their equipment. It costs more, but I do believe this is one of those situations where you get what you pay for, and if time is money, then their products have real value.
I’ve been dreaming about upgrading my little Lincoln 140 flux core mig. This Miller is in the top two along with the Rebel. Too bad Covid affected my $$. I had to put this purchase off a bit.
I own an Esab Rebel 215ic. I'm a hobbyist so no wide open smearing weld on. I haven't even gotten a 12 lbs roll through it yet and I'm guessing the motherboard crapped out on it. I should have kept my Esab WCC Jesse James multiprocess ☹. Not only could I smear some weld around with it. It was "F"ing cool looking!
I picked one up back in March and just love it. So far I have only used it for mig but will hopefully be getting a second bottle so I can start doing some tig. Limited space makes having a multiprocess welder a very good thing. After years of not welding I was able to just set the material thinkness and just start welding.
Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. I got my first professional machine in 1991, Lincoln SP250 still have it it's my go-to welder. I have run well over a 1000 pounds of wire through it. It does need a new liner which I have on the shelf. IIRC I picked it up for $2500 including the tank, I also got them to include a set of Victor torches and regs. Keep passing along the knowledge.
Good info man, thanks. I've looked at Miller machines... That price tag hurts. :P My little Clarke has been doing well enough, but I do feel like it's starting to get flaky. Hoping it'll last me until I can afford something better. My deal with yeswelder has helped out, but their products are are the same grade as my Clarke. So when the day comes that I need to replace it... I'm hoping to upgrade, instead of just replace it with another lower end welder. That's a hell of a price tag though.
I bought a Hobart 140 and wish I would have gotten an Hobart 187 or larger. Especially when trying to weld no axles tubes and thick metal you need a bigger welder. I would agree Nate I should have bought a bigger welder. I love the way yours is set up.
I have owned both (currently the 187). The big downside is little to no spool gun support. where as the 190/210 mvp does. Dollar for dollar the 210 at $999 (with spool gun) is the best welder on the market and punches far above its weight class.
My titanium 140 is nearly identical.. While nor a 220, can be converted and has the after run feature.. It's been a worthy welder for me and worth every penny of $500
@@DirtLifestyle not quite identical, but as far as looks, ability to interchange gas, flux, and vaiett of other uses.. It'll never be a $3000 welder, or a high end miller.. But at 1/6 the price, it has been a darn good welder..at least for me.. I have not nearly used all the features..im just poor and the max I could afford and no complaints. Idk if itll automatically switch ( which I know is the issue) but check it out anyways.. Might be a handy find
I've been wondering why i don't see that many videos of the miller multimatic 255. the thing cost's $4500.00 with tax and shipping lol add your two cylinders on and you've got over $5,000.00 into your machine... I just ordered my 255 with all the accessories this morning, supposed to be here next Tuesday, i cant wait. I wanted to get a machine that i wouldn't grow out of right off the bat.
Thanks! I miss shooting offroad videos lol. Very soon I will be doing more. I'm in a building phase right now but the offroad/overland adventures are right around the corner. Thanks for hanging in there 👍
10-4. Found it on sale - online. Showed the cashier at Tractor Supply, they price matched it. No questions. Luckily, they had one in stock. It was less than $800. I used it to build a temporary table. All scrap metal. Used 110 setting, .30 flux core wire, 3/16" angle for the top perimeter, 1/8" for the legs. Didn't clean it that much. Welds came out pretty decent. I still need lots of practice. Can't wait to install 220v.. Mainly got it for frame stiffeners on the XJ. That seems to be tough. Going from 1/8 or 3/16 to sheetmetal.... Some people make it look easy..... and the welds...like stacking dimes...
Not sure if you have one close by. Blain's farm and fleet has it at $799. If you have a tractor supply nearby, maybe they'll price match. Must be a labor day sale...
Good stuff 👍 Personally, I just got a HF Titanium Unlimited 200 as that's my budget level. Only done about 15 minutes of welding on it so far, but pretty impressed with it. Consumables are standard sizes as well.
I looked at it and cheap chinese cutters like the BestArc for under $300 will do about the same. Look how many you can buy for the Miller price, and the consumables are less. Is your air sufficient cfm/PSI and dry? Fail on either and your cutter will, too.
As far as cooling down the TIG torch.... How about fabricating a spiral wire handle, like you'd see on the handle of a BBQ pit, or smoker? That will help dissipate the heat, and keep your hand away from it, and still allow some air flow between. It would be a near zero cost solution.
Price is relative to potential earnings. Photography gear can cost 3k or more, easy. Firearms can cost that times whatever factor you like. People into cycling spend that much, dirt bikes 2-3x that at least, guitars/instruments, weights for a home gym, private pilots spend ten to one hundred times that... pretty much any hobby is going to cost you thousands over time. Some of those hobbies are good for your health. Some just good for recreation but cost a lot. Others can make you money and pay for themselves. I want to have a hundred hobbies. I tend to pursue the ones that are the most practical and can pay for themselves over time, such as welding. Cheers :D
Having recently lost access to welding school with current events I pulled the trigger on the Primeweld AC/DC TIG220 for $830. I am keeping up on my stick welding primarily with it but once I can buy a bottle of argon I'll be getting to work on Aluminum TIG. I'm considering the Primeweld MIG180 next which runs for about $450.
😳 Sure beats my little gas 110v Hobbart 140. Another awesome video brother 😁👍 Keep doing what you enjoy and the tires aimed toward the ground & your eyes toward the Lord brother. Tell everyone up your way I said hi from Missouri 😊👌
I wiiiiiiish miller would hit me up 🤣 I love fabrication and welding but I'm a poor youtube diy'er haha awesome review man! Keep building and inspiring others to do so 🤘
that is a big chunk of change for a welder but most people don’t realize you get four machines for the one price. if you bought one of each welder it would cost more and take up that much more space.
How hot is "lava" hot on the TIG? Never used air cooled TIG. What were the amps you used and length (secs) of welds to get torch hot? I mostly will be welding inch long stitch on 11 gauge SS, 6 welds per setup.
I should've saved a bit more and got the 220. Picked up the 215 last year with the rebate program but as re-beginning welder I'm sure it's still well above me 🤷🏻♂️
Really enjoy your channel.. So I have the Miller 215. Its a great welder...but, Doesnt Tig aluminum. Never thought I would want or need it. But there ya go, Now I want to Tig aluminum. I was looking at the Everlast due to the variety of options is has. Not getting rid of the miller, just want an AC/DC tig now, Your thoughts on a Tig only machine?
Do you find that you can weld the same thickness material with 110v and 220v? Are there any number sticks you can't use with this machine? What is the duty cycle on this machine? I'm down to this one and the Eastwood 250i multi-process welder.
Planning on getting my first welder. I’ve settle on the multimatic220 which is what I believe you have along with a plasma cutter. If you have time, can you post up the parts needed for the setup (welder, plasma, cart, etc) on your amazon page? I’m moving in November and will have 220 to be able to run this.
I've been watching your channel for a couple weeks and enjoy the content. I'm just down in Oregon and have a strange obsession with Isuzus, building a 2nd gen Trooper right now. You have any experience with an Isuzu Nate?
I bought this same machine but I didn't like the short mig gun. I saw yours and it looks bigger. Were you able to get a different one and if so which one?
Does anyone find à way to use a water cooled tig torch on a multimatic 220 i have this exact welder and it does let you weld à 210 amp on ac but the original tig torch is only rated at 150amp so it does get really hot to the point that I am conserned of how much time it is gona last.
Can you review cast iron MIG wire, like Crown Alloys Royal 44-30 or Special Metals Ni-Rod 44 (ER NiFeMn-CI filler) for those who only have a MIG welder? It sure looks like a nice machine. However, $3K is a little steep for a weekend warrior, especially if you don't need to TIG aluminum. Would it be nice to TIG aluminum? Absolutely. Would I buy a DC only TIG welder? Probably not. I just can't justify the cost for something I am only going to use a handful of times a year on steel and probably almost never on aluminum. The primary limiting factor for most hobbyists is money. I could almost buy 2.5" remote res coilovers, dual rate springs and 37" tires for the cost of the welder. When the $700 Lincoln I have works great for steel it makes it hard to justify a $3K welder. But that is my situation, others may find a multi-process AC/DC machine to be a necessity. If my job was welding, I would already own this machine probably. It looks like the quality and ease of use of this welder are both high.
Off the top of my head: You need 240V for good duty cycle, not just on these, but really on any welder. You just do not have enough power out of a 120V outlet, most of which are limited to 15 Amps, even if you have 20 Amps it is just a fraction of the power you would pull from the 240V outlet. I have used mine at 110V in the field, and it will work, but it is not the same, so a bit of patience is required. Now if you have a powerful 240V generator that can crank out 50 amps at 240V, then you would be in business. If I recall it is rated to pull over 30 amps at 240V, and I think its plug is a NEMA 50 amp style. At 240V you can do reasonable welding with these, maybe not joining hull plates on a battleship, but reasonable stuff with hydraulic cylinders and such.

Hobart 210 mig welder is a great welder for the price And its made from Miller as well. That Miller welder is my dream welder.
It runs the fan after power is turned off, so that it bleeds any power off the inverter as not to have energy stored in the machine when it’s off.

I couldn't agree more! 220 is a must for everything but body work... But it can do that too lol
Yep I'm buying this welder. Thanks for the review.
It's worth saving up the cash and buy it with your own money lol
Thank you Nate. I took your advice and purchased what I felt I needed and could afford at this time. I'm very happy with the Lincoln 230/180 MIG & Flux Core wire feed welder. I've got a lot of learning to do and this welder is a great entry level unit. Lincoln is well known in the industry so getting supplies is easy at almost any weld shop. As soon as I got a gas bottle my welds came out much better.
Very nice!
I had been eyeing up the multimatic 220, and then I saw this video over on your review channel. I immediately went and ordered one and have NEVER regretted it. If you can possibly afford this machine, buy it. If you do any amount of fabrication you won’t regret it.
Glad to hear you are enjoying it as much as I am!
What is the Duty cycle for each method at max on the Vulcan?
Bear in mind the Miller 220 now (2023 May) lists for $4200 less a $300 rebate. Most of the non-Blue/Reds did not plump up nearly that much in the last year. Oink Oink is what I hear in the background, and that is b4 you look at actual capability and features.
“buy once, cry once” haha I hope I get a chance to say that to someone!
Excellent review, thanks
I’m looking at one of these
Over the years I went through the need it now/cheap.
It sounds like we made all the same mistakes lol. Especially when it comes to air compressors
@@DirtLifestyle agreed easy to justify the cheaper purchase in the moment.
I’ve been thinking about getting one a lot. But this video helped seal the deal for me.
I love my Miller equipment. I am looking at their new plasma cutter now.
The rebel is outstanding as well 👍
I own an Esab Rebel 215ic.
Choosing the amperage via selecting the material thickness is a game changer 👍
Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. I got my first professional machine in 1991, Lincoln SP250 still have it it's my go-to welder. I have run well over a 1000 pounds of wire through it. It does need a new liner which I have on the shelf. IIRC I picked it up for $2500 including the tank, I also got them to include a set of Victor torches and regs. Keep passing along the knowledge.
Sounds like you got some nice equipment! I hope to have the same long term experience with mine 👍
@@DirtLifestyle I hope you do as well. I just have a feeling that the inverter welders won't hold up as well as the old transformer machines have.
@@DirtLifestyle here is a link to the video I did on a welding cart for the SP250 and the 210mp.

You’re the best Nate! Great video, thank you.
Good for you Nate, your channel is growing. Keep up the hard work!!!
Thanks!
I just bought that welder couple days ago and absolutely love it
Good info man, thanks.
Troph2 thanks for the info I will keep this in mind when I upgrade 👍
Sa200 for life over here! Can't run wire but on the bright side you'll be a mechanic in a year's time since you'll spend so much time fixing it 😛
My titanium 140 is nearly identical.. While nor a 220, can be converted and has the after run feature.. It's been a worthy welder for me and worth every penny of $500
The titanium 140 is identical? Damn I'll research it tonight 👍
You even do sponsored product reviews classier than everyone else Nate! 👍
Thank you!
2022 now . $4200 and going up
Excellent video. I’m glad I found your channel. I’m subscribed. Thank you!
Does it do AC TIG?
@@replyhere590 no but I also got a water cooled everlast 250ex just for that.
Dang it's $4200 now. Should have pulled the trigger 2 years ago
Love the video still like seeing you out on the trail
Thanks! I miss shooting offroad videos lol. Very soon I will be doing more. I'm in a building phase right now but the offroad/overland adventures are right around the corner. Thanks for hanging in there 👍
What mig gun are you running on that beast?
Just picked up a hobart 210mvp. Gotta learn on that one before purchasing anything else....
Thats a solid machine bro. You see it on tons of jobsites 👍
Good stuff 👍 Personally, I just got a HF Titanium Unlimited 200 as that's my budget level. Only done about 15 minutes of welding on it so far, but pretty impressed with it. Consumables are standard sizes as well.
I got a weldpro mig 200.... Runs just as great but its lift tig... I will say this will be my upgrade though
That's a nice welder , I'm saving for a new welder my old European one is getting tired well just out dated it has crude settings
I would replace the tig torch with a weldcraft redhead, wp-r17fv(flex head, valve)
The red is made for high heat 👍
I'm researching as we speak 👍 thanks for the suggestion
@@DirtLifestyle no problem 👍
great video. suggestion, can you do a review of your 375 x-treme? I have one but struggle with clean cuts. Show us your expertise Jeep Jedi!
Lol i like jeep Jedi. Will do!
I looked at it and cheap chinese cutters like the BestArc for under $300 will do about the same. Look how many you can buy for the Miller price, and the consumables are less. Is your air sufficient cfm/PSI and dry? Fail on either and your cutter will, too.
I guess I have gotten so used to the cheaper welders I did not think half those option you spoke about were available...😂🤣😂
Lol i was in the same boat
As far as cooling down the TIG torch.... How about fabricating a spiral wire handle, like you'd see on the handle of a BBQ pit, or smoker? That will help dissipate the heat, and keep your hand away from it, and still allow some air flow between. It would be a near zero cost solution.
This is your million dollar idea not mine lol
@@DirtLifestyle So..... Ya think? Maybe, it might work?
Cheers :D
Thank you, great review.
Oh wow, $3K is a lot of money for me as well, but less than what I was expecting! I think it would be a great investment still!
@Rxslinger Good to know, I think its worth it if you can save up. Like Nate said, buy once, cry once👍
Lincoln don’t even do this?
It’s worth it.
I think you mean the PW 225, not 220?? Unlike the vaunted Miller 220's dramatic $ rise, it has only gone up to $849, last I looked (May 2023).
😳 Sure beats my little gas 110v Hobbart 140. Another awesome video brother
😁👍 Keep doing what you enjoy and the tires aimed toward the ground & your eyes toward the Lord brother. Tell everyone up your way I said hi from Missouri 😊👌
Thanks buddy 🤘 luckily ive only had the tire side up a few times 😁
@@DirtLifestyle you and me both brother 😊
I wiiiiiiish miller would hit me up 🤣 I love fabrication and welding but I'm a poor youtube diy'er haha awesome review man! Keep building and inspiring others to do so 🤘
Great review and advice!!! Keep us up to date with any upgrades you do to this welder please.
Tryna get a mobile ac/dc welder but this one seems big and for a shop
that is a big chunk of change for a welder but most people don’t realize you get four machines for the one price. if you bought one of each welder it would cost more and take up that much more space.
This is my perspective as well 🤘
How hot is "lava" hot on the TIG? Never used air cooled TIG. What were the amps you used and length (secs) of welds to get torch hot? I mostly will be welding inch long stitch on 11 gauge SS, 6 welds per setup.
That’s a beautiful machine Nate.
Is the multimatic 220 caters AC weldment as well as pulse?..
Hi what miller welder beside the 220? The small welder wat is that? Thank u
I want that green Jeep J-10!!!!
I was very sad I don't have one yet. Had the money, and my transmission went out in my diesel truck...
Hey Nate. Get you give me more info about the spool gun for that machine. Thanks.
You can use a Miller Spoolmate 100 or Spoolmate 150.
@@mbrick thanks mike. I got the spoolmate 150 and it works like a charm. Appreciate your reply. Have a good day.
I should've saved a bit more and got the 220. Picked up the 215 last year with the rebate program but as re-beginning welder I'm sure it's still well above me 🤷🏻♂️
A little over a year later and price of this machine is now up to almost $3,900
And another year after that, $4200!
These now cost $4,200. Would you say it's still worth it?
Oink Oink, grab those FanBois, Make them pay/Convince them this is the only way.
Tig only machines are great! Usually they have some extra features that you won't see in a multiproccess unit 👍
Where do you source your metal in the Olympia/Tacoma area?
Good video as always. Great channel.
Love you and the channel bro, but now my 15yo is looking at me asking how long it would take him to pay me back for one of these lol.
Lol sorry buddy 😁
Thanks! I haven't owned an Isuzu but have always dug the amigo and the vehicross 👍
What was the bard of the aluminum spool gun?
Miller Spoolmate 100 or Spoolmate 150.
I bought this same machine but I didn't like the short mig gun. I saw yours and it looks bigger. Were you able to get a different one and if so which one?
What is the smaller welder on the stand next to the 220 in video?
It is a Miller Spectrum plasma cutter.
As of today, the machine has gone up in price.
What accessories, tools, bits pieces, odds and ends did you have to buy separately to do what your doing with this welder?
Does anyone find à way to use a water cooled tig torch on a multimatic 220 i have this exact welder and it does let you weld à 210 amp on ac but the original tig torch is only rated at 150amp so it does get really hot to the point that I am conserned of how much time it is gona last.
Why do they put the on/off switch on the back of the machine?
Not sure man. All of my welders and plasma cutters have had the switch on the back
Gets lots of critique. And as the host says, lots have rear switches. Not sure I care.
With the fan for cooling, how does that affect the duty cycle?
Its seems to be sufficient. 👍
@@DirtLifestyle It has an excellent over heat feature....
Have you noted the 220 duty cycle? Very "conservative", as in limited.
Can you do tig on a 120 plug
Yes you can, up to 140A on a 20A breaker. They spec 90A on a 15A breaker.
I want to aluminum weld is tig better or should i buy a spool gun? I'm a beginner welder
My NOOB info is that you cannot control the amps on a spool gun. It's a work around.
Check out rental fleets you don't have to buy new
Can you review cast iron MIG wire, like Crown Alloys Royal 44-30 or Special Metals Ni-Rod 44 (ER NiFeMn-CI filler) for those who only have a MIG welder?
Possibility. I need more cast projects 👍
2.5 years later the machine costs $1200 more than it did here.
Nice welder. I was wondering what helmet do you use?
i keep hearing about the duty cycle of these machines, is the duty cycle high enough for using on a farm..
@@richhagenchicago Also, word on the "comment street" is that pushing too hard on 115 shortens the welder life.
@@replyhere590 Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I definitely prefer it on 240, but it does the job in the field on 120 as well.
