In this video I use the Real Terrain Hobbies Builder's kit: Fire and Hammer, to go beyond the project included and use the tools and materials to make the lighthouse for our massive ocean scene for the Talmberg Castle. We're coming up to the water effects but first, we need a lighthouse and a little something extra to further really spicing up the scene... a FIRE breathing dragon! This lighting effect is the most realistic fire I've ever seen and it's so much easier to do than you might expect!

Massive thank you to all my Patrons, you guys are so incredibly amazing.❤
*_Cotton is very flammable. The material in a modern bed pillow however, is fire resistant and looks better than cotton when used for smoke and fire like you used the cotton._*
*_You placed the papier-mâché mixture in the oven, place the outdoor sand in the oven as well: it contains spores, bacteria, virus, bugs, etc, etc. Sterilize the outdoor sand in the oven is what I am saying._*
@@RPRsChannel Agreed! I normally do this but I totally forgot with this one 😬
@@RPRsChannel hmm good point!🔥😬
@@RealTerrainHobbies *_I forgot to say, this looks really good. And I do like "adding stuff over time" to a grand piece like this._*
Has anyone ever told you, you need to be designing miniature movie sets with 3d effects? Your amazing at what you do. Everything is absolutely awesome 😎
Thanks so much Jennifer! I would absolutely love to have a job like that😊❤️
@@RealTerrainHobbies How much do you think an indy model maker could make? Sorry if that's vague. Say, on one movie, for an indy production.
BIG BOSS CRAFTER
Wow!! The fire looks so dang cool!!
I know right!😎 Love the swirling effect the cotton created. So dynamic!
Otro video que llegará a millones de visualizaciones. Sencillamente impresionante. Enhorabuena.
Cool !!!! 👍🤩✌️💖
I gotta try out more mini LED light ideas.
That turned out awesome!
I've got THREE sets on my desk just staring at me just waiting for the "right" idea..
Always pickin up inspiration and motivation from your videos!
Love it!! What are the led light you use for the fire?
Lookin' fab !!! love it :-) 🥰😍🥰🤩
4:36 where is that wizard going?
omg that is so fucking cool.
Will you be releasing the 2nd template for the castle soon?
YES! Thank you for this reminder!!!
@@RealTerrainHobbies
Awesome, I’m making it quite a bit smaller, but it should be cool.
Where’s the ocean water?
Yet another smashingly good video and project - well done! On a production note, I really like the 2D sprites wandering about during the build. :)
Me too hehe😁
Amazing work Neil. The castle continues on its pathway to legendary.
Thanks Ted! Getting there😎
Awesome work Neil. Love the light house, and the Dragon with fire just looks incredible!! As if this castle build could get even cooler haha ... Also love seeing the mistakes, my heart sank when I saw the Dragon break! So glad it wasn't too big a hurdle to over come. Also thanks for the shout out, much appreciated :D
Thanks Michael. Yeah, I seriously thought that thing blew up into a million pieces. Couldn't believe it when I found that wing on the other side of the room still in one piece!!!
@@RealTerrainHobbies haha that resin must be decent... it probably should have been a million pieces!
@@Nat1videos Now that you mention it, absolutely right! That's the Phrozen 8k stuff. Super flexible while taking details amazingly well. Best stuff out there, like actual plastic👌
New RTH video!! 🥳 Love your content Neil hope you have a great holiday season.
I thought the castle couldn't get any better, but this really took it up another level 😳 fantastic work!
Hey thanks Karl!!! :)
I love the idea of these follow up videos making use of the box supplies you’ll have left after making the blacksmith! The results look great!! Beautiful work.
Your Lord of the Rings minis look so good! Keep up the good work - love the content from your channel!
YES
Hey Bill, thanks for stopping by my man! :)
That fire effect turned out brilliantly!
Wow, I gotta say I felt your pain at the drilling “incident”!! Great recovery ❤️🩹! The dragon fire turned out super great 👍🏻
Man, I thought it had completely shattered. I couldn't believe it when I found the second wing still completely in tact on the other side of the room
@@RealTerrainHobbies I was more worried about your hand! I've snapped multiple drill bits and always end up stabbing my thumb when I do 😭
It was awesome to see you paint the dragon fire live on the hobby hangout call! It looked great then, but in its place with the backdrop of the castle and the lighthouse, it is jaw dropping!
Hey thanks Chrispy! Yeah that was a lot of fun hanging with you guys. Need to get on another one call here soon! But yeah, what an amazing effect as simple as it is🔥🔥🔥
wow
No need for more words. This is simply amazing! Keep it up :)
Fantastic dude! As always!
Top Notch, as always. Makes me feel good to watch and to know that im not the only one who makes mistakes during terrain builds. BTW you almost pulled off a sweet Matthew Mcconaughey impression at the end there.
haha thanks!😁
And yeah, I thought that dragon was a goner. I think the resin I used saved me. That Phrozen 8k stuff is so flexible yet still durable. Anything else I'm convinced would have shattered.
only thing missing now is a trebuchet :))))
everytime you make a video the whole day is perfect! Love your videos
greetings from Germany
Greetings and thank you my friend! :)
nice. crumbling castles and towers by the sea, with little staircases alluding to past inhabitants and threat of dragons..
best part about being an adult - actualizing certain childhood dreams.
Couldn't agree more 😊
What a badass model. Thanks for sharing
I think that for the roof, the best solution would have been to leave a hole on the center of the roof, that way, it would have been, in my opinion, much mor realistic, anyway, it is an amazing diorama, I really love your videos, they are a really good source of inspiration for some of my dioramas.
Yeah, very true. A hole in the middle makes sense. And thank you! :)
You are an absolute beast. After that castle project I wouldn't have blamed you for moving on to something non-castle related for a while. That build looks phenomenal and as always you've presented it in a way that's easy to follow and adapt to other projects!
Great Video. The lighthouse and the dragon look amazing. I actually kinda like to see when things, like the dragon breaking happen to amazing artists like you. Don't get me wrong, it's just that it makes you feel so much more relateble, when accidents or miskates happen to people you think do such great art you could never do yourself and makes it less intimidating and even feel less bad about your own accidents and mistakes. I'm glad it could be repaired that easyly. You wouldn't even have noticed from the fina shots.
Well thanks for the really great feedback. Love that and good to know keeping those things in helps others with their crafting endeavors. I was just so happy the thing didnt completely blow up and shatter into a million pieces. 😅
the ability to create small movie sets with amazing 3D effects. They have a great talent and design skills. All products are amazing and impressive. 😎
So cool man! Are you using the Edelkrone motorized jib for those shots? Definitely looks epic with your giant builds.
Heck yes I sure am. Man, I love my Edelkrone jib :) Do you use an Edelkrone? I know you use a slider and I THINK you have the probe lens? Thanks for stopping by man :)
@@RealTerrainHobbies nice! I have the Rhino arc ii slider but am definitely interested in the Edelkrone stuff, especially the jib. And yeah the probe lens is incredible! Not easy to work with at all, but worth it
Great way to start the day ! Lucky us with a RTH video !!
Wow, so much info here. Now I want to make a dragon breathing fire! My to-do list is getting ridiculously long.
lol man do I hear u there. What do you currently have going on??
@@RealTerrainHobbies Current build is based on the fairy bridge in Scotland, that's built and now I'm making the Medieval traffic jam going on over it using Loot figures.
Crikey I felt that too... ouuuuuch!!!! eeeeeh! This is art at it's finest... love the size of the castle and the lighthouse and dragon.. everything is wow.. when you put is outside to film I thought was a real place.. Just amazing.... Now I have so many ideas.. but yeah in Canada the weather and fixing car, and doing handmade books well, not much room to make those structures so my journal is getting full .. thank you so much for this and love your ideas , and artistry.. perfect!!!
*Again love the wizard running around but after the dragon incident.. Think he ran to hide in the castle.... lol!! just saying!
Ngl I cheered when the pixel wizard strolled past. I had a rewind. That was a good one.
Holy flarkin' schnit that dragon fire looks amazing all lit up! Beautiful work man! I'd be afraid to play on it and accidentally break something and ruin your work. The box looks great too. But it's currently not in my budget or I'd jump on it. Thank you for all your hard work and sharing it with us.
great build...what the heck is that wizzard doing walking around the table... O.o
That pesky guy tends to come in and out of hiding from time to time
😂 I thought the same ! lol
When you’re drilling resin you have two options, either use a dremel or turn the torque literally all the way down to 1 and cross your fingers. Patience you must have, my young Padawan.
This looks like real Polish castle in Będzin! But with dragon! I'm so happy to see your miniature, it's perfect
FYI for drilling plastic and other very grabby materials, an intentionally blunted bit is often safer.
It would be more realistic if you let the dragon levitate by a stronger wire through the fire and securing it to the main castle instead of showing the post to hold the dragon. Just a thought. I saw a similar project and looks like a snapshot dragon in midair
Absolutely incredible video as always
Thanks my friend! Manage to spot our little wizard friend? He's seemed to have come out of hiding again...
@@RealTerrainHobbies at 5:56 I think right ?
Ah, awesome! The pose and positioning of the dragon is just perfect. And I really dig that you've built the light house with only the box contents and stuff everyone has at home. Haha, and the end ... :)
haha thanks Julian!!! 😅
You should connect the dragon with the castle with wire thru fire. It would make the dragon to truly fly.
Hullooo Sasketchamuhwaaan...from da frosts of Yuukon!
Howdy howdy!😂
I would have hidden 2 thick wires in the flame over which the dragon is held. You would have attached the other side of the wires in the tower
That's a whole 'nother level of epic
😁
Am I the only one who was waiting for him to start singing "My Name is Mud" at the end?? lol
Lighthouse and dragon look phenomenal, bud!
lol :D
Thanks man :)
Hahaha love the wizard sneaking around the ramparts of the castle! Already ordered my kit, can't wait to get it! Beautiful light house. Im going to have to try ordering some of those light up noodles. They look so fun!! Thanks for the great video, again!
Awesome, can't wait for you to get you kit! It'll be like Christmas day opening that beautiful box up.😊 ... or maybe it literally will be haha! And yeah, our wizard friend seems to have come out of hiding again🤔
So cool to hear you give Boylei Hobby Time a shout-out. You guys are two of my favorite crafting channels to watch.
Yeah, he's the man! :)
Terrifying dragon with HOT fire!!
I can feel the heat 🔥
Really cool to see how your box supplies can be used in versatile ways!
It looks so so good, as usual! I just want to shrink down and explore the builds! Especially that castle! Love the Hobbit clips too!
Awesome work! I am officially inspired! Would you add a link for the LED filament please and thank you?
Yes, for sure. This is the link and I'll put it in the description as well! --> bit.ly/2MBODAz
Another amazing build. You are the Grand Master of realism. Love it
The result turned out amazing omg! My jaw literally dropped the whole video, cause the details on the rock and dragon looks super realistic!!! Im purely impressed, well done
Really awesome stuff. I now need to try that fire effect in one of my own projects.
Holy shit that dragons breath is amazing! The whole thing fits perfectly with the rest of the massive build. Love it.
Stunning work 💯💯💯
Thank you so much my friend!🙂
Incredible!!!! See you next time.
How on earth did you do the animations in this video?? Like with the waves etc ... Thats a neat trick!
Dude. I would have instantly swore so loud at the end. Glad you were able to pull it off!
Thanks Ryan! I was convinced that with was gone. One wing managed to stay in tact despite being flung to the opposite side of the room XD
FYI your book shoutout is on it's way. I had a lot of CTAs in this vid as is and one more would have been a bit much 😬
@@RealTerrainHobbies looking forward to the next video as always!
Big fan of Crazy Neil at the end there.
Yayyyy boylei getting credits ❤
Finally I have the spare money for that tavern kit and happy it's still available ♥
YES! You're gonna love it and thanks for your order! :)
This is my first time seeing one of your videos and heck yeah I'll subscribe! Your stuff is amazing, that fire was absolutely incredible and the details were amazing!
Hey that's awesome! Do you normally watch this kind of content? Like Boylie and other model making channels? just curious how the ole algorithm got you here for the first time :)
@@RealTerrainHobbies Actually just Nerdforge, but I'll have to check out that guy Boylie. It would be awesome to see more of this stuff, it's pretty relaxing and it inspires me to continue with my project(s) lol.
I’ve always wanted to make a miniature scene rather than just a miniature house, so I decided what the hell, and ordered the kit for myself. I was honestly surprised they were still available!
I feel such confusion when I watch your show. Are these buildings considered precious? Or are are they only meant to last a few years? You put so much care, skill and knowledge into your buildings, and they are stunning but, I see high pH (acidic) materials, and a lack of supports. Acid materials can eat your art! Wondering about the future would make it hard to enjoy the build in the present.
Hi Neil!. Great and beatifull job!. I love your kit. You know if possible buy it with intenational shipping?. GREATINGS!!!!
I feel your pain, about the spill, there, at the end. A few months ago, I bought a packet of powdered lampblack, for my current project. I foolishly left it in reach of Mr. Kitty, while I went out to run some errands. He apparently thought, "Oh, here's something new to shred. Once I've destroyed the envelope, I'll course push it off onto the floor. And, since I've gone to that much effort, I'm CERTAINLY entitled to LIE DOWN in it! Then, I'll make sure that my feet are COVERED with the shit, before I jump up on the bed and walk all over the ENTIRE spread, before settling down for my NAP!" Ahh, 'gott'a LOVE 'em! As for the incident with the dragon, I've drilled lots of heavy gauge metal, in my time. With that stuff, the kind of thing that happened in the vid can be REALLY dangerous. To avoid it, I start with the smallest bit possible and work up to my final diameter, while running the tool at tool at the lowest practical speed. If there's not enough surface for the bit to grip, it'll cut before it can build enough torque to grab the piece. 'Takes longer, but can save lots of grief. Keep up the great work, dude!
This is genuinely amazing. I mean, I'm new of these things but I've already seen other miniatures and dioramas. But this is really amazing.
I suppose things came better if who made them is inspired and have passion.
Excellent job man. Excellent job. 👍
Greetings from Italy.
Great work. Thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Thanks for some great ideas.
I bought 3D printed dragon nightlight! from a company that has lighted flames. I just wished that it flickered to be more realistic. i was wondering if your flickering fire on the tower could be used in your fire from the Dragon?
Hah. Lord of the Print really just has the best dragons you can find anywhere...
Which reminds me, I still have a half-finished adult black dragon lying around in my gigantic pile of shame somewhere ...
Also, when drilling hollow resin minis (I know this well because I've recently had to drill some 10mm holes in my chaos knight for magnets), it helps to go very, very slowly. As slowly as you can manage. Not with much pressure. Just shave it off bit by bit.
you are positively crazy. :D I have started to collect promising pieces left and right, possibly for dioramas for my model cars, so never throw away what could still be good for something. :D
that being said, awesome work, on lighthouse and dragon and fire especially. (protip: next time drill before attaching wings and paint... but wait, you already know. XD)
Looks awesome, man.....question though....why didn't you do the stables within Talmberg Castle? Or was it a little inconvenient where the split of the castle is?
I can't get over just how realistic the fire is!! God I love dragons 😂😂
This is phenomenal!! Of course, your work is always so amazing. I do have two questions: one, what did you put on the wire before you soldered, and 2, how in the world did you keep the cotton from looking, well, like cotton. Was that only paint??
I recently made same project (fire-breathing dragon)
simple but very effective.😀👍
yes, very simple yet effective! I was contemplating using the green for the fire but decided to keep it orange :P
@@RealTerrainHobbies I plan to use green in the dungeon to simulate a poison gas trap
reviewed again more closely...actually I used a slightly different technique. I used a glue gun stick and a couple of flickering tea lights. so my flame flickers a little. it is also not attached to the dragon, which allows it to be used as a presentation of fire spells (as if the flame comes out of the wizard's palm)
Beautiful! One tip that might help - its actually pretty simple to use blender to remove a section of a model and actually print the model with a hole for a stand like you've used. Helps avoid the need to drill it out!
Yeah, for next time this is exactly what I'll do :)
Every video of yours makes me so inspired. I can’t wait for my box to arrive and start my hobbying journey!
Can't wait for you to get your hands on it too!
The tiny hidden wizard running around throughout was nice too!
I know it only matters to me and I expect the inevitable backlash, But that's a Wyvern, not a Dragon, sorry. Apart from that epic work as always :-)
Great video! Any links to the materials used to create the fire effect or to videos from Boylei Hobby time's channel about it? Searched his channel and found some cool builds using them but no info about the "noodle lights" specifically. Thanks for the content!
Awesome job! Gave me the idea for flames in a model I’m gonna build!!! Thanks!!!
I recently found your channel but how great, you have an incredible talent, you motivated me to buy the kit and what is better to follow your videos, greetings from Bogotá - Colombia.
Imagine actually playing d&d on this game board. Awesome work it's looking unbelievable
Wow.....if that coffee company could provide different varieties of hot chocolate rather than coffee....my sibs and I would be sooooo in!
Neil, what an amazing piece of modelling. The fire effect looks so real, unbelievable. Really enjoyed the video!
Hey thanks Paul! Really appreciate that man :)
Ale you kidding? :D I live literally 20 miles away from this castle. I can almost see it through my window.. :D
There are different techniques for filling the frames in half timbered house and wattle-and-daub are but one. Many buildings belonging to wealthier builders use bricks and in other cases they were filled with wooden boards. Other construction methods also exists.
The benefit of half timbered houses is that they are completely modular and can be repaired and changed with a surprisingly minimal amount of effort.
Another tip from my side would be: go light pastel yellow towards the mouth for a very short span and then a paler shade of cyan blue.
This makes the flame look even hotter, but you might wanna make the stream of flame near the mouth thinner since the blast has more power with that level of heat.
This idea is really gorgeous and I have the urge to make a dragon attacking something just so i can replace my ugly lamp on my bedside.
So.... is there a prize if you catch little Gandalf running around in the background? LOL
Great stuff, I had to pause and rewind when something caught my eye at 4:35 strolling from behind the water jar towards the yellow bowl, fantastic.
You work is able to amaze me all the the time! That flame is just... Hot!
Do you happen to have a link of product name for the 'noodle light' you used here?
Also, the amount of production put in to this video is crazy and looks great!
Solid matchmoving. Nice work. Blender MM or Syntheyes?
