Enjoyed this one 30 years in pharmaceutical work with temperature, weight,PH and water quality Biggest issue was always TOC calibration for water quality because so many companies supply certified reagents that our delivered out of spec and fail during the hours long calibration procedure
This was fantastic. So glad to hear a real story instead of the "I made $1M in 30 days" BS everywhere else. I too want to start a business and it's so intimidating when I have no experience or mentorship in my life. Curious, did you ever feel embarrassed or shy about telling people about your business? I don't know what it is (maybe imposter syndrome) but I get overwhelming feelings of shyness/embarrassment when I try to tell someone about my business plans before I can prove success? Advice to overcome?
Yes, it is very intimidating without having a good mentor. I had a few people giving me advice, but none were doing metrology, so I had to take everything with a grain of salt. I don't think I was embarrassed about telling people about my business plans. However, I was and still am very shy about directly marketing or providing a sales pitch for my business. Part of this is due to being introverted. It is also due to my probably false assumption that nobody wants to hear yet another advertisement. Feeling like my one-man home-lab is somehow illegitimate also contributes to this. These fears are a big reason I kept working a day job for a couple of years. I was too afraid to perform more direct, confident forms of marketing, and it took me that long to become effective at indirect forms of marketing.
Excellent first video on how I started my bissness. This is RUclips at its finest.

You got that website for Washington State?
It seems my comment with the direct link isn't showing, but business.wa.gov is where I got a lot of good info.
