Absolutely divine. Elina and Roberto are true perfection in this difficult opera and as for The Met 2010 Carmen, no others could rival this duo anywhere. Sensational. I never can stop watching again and again.
In other productions of this, Dalila always treats this song as an aria in a vacuum. Most Dalilas stand off to one side and sing to the audience, while the Samsons look longingly in the background. The music is beautiful no matter what, but you don't get the ACTING that you get in this scene here. There's no simply standing around singing for Elina and Roberto. They are all over each other. Delila is singing about longing for him, while secretly she knows she loathes him and can't wait to betray him. You can see flashes of it here and there; that sly bit of deceit beneath the seduction. And Samson is completely lost. He no longer has control over his feelings; she has gotten to him, and we the audience know he will soon give in and be doomed. Absolutely wonderful staging here, and excellent ACTING to go with the excellent SINGING.
