Ashley, please respond! I'm curious why you think burgundy works for the top but not the bottom. I ask not because I disagree but because I have two pairs of burgundy pants (jeans and chinos), and I've similarly found that they never seem to pair with anything-even the most neutral of shirts. Why do you think that is? Logically, it seems like it shouldn't make a difference, but it definitely does. I've similarly found that white shirts don't look good on me, but white (or off-white) pants do. Perhaps it has something to do with the skin color contrast and/or the "weight" of the color?
Whats wrong with burgundy bottoms Ashley ? you kept referencing burgundy tops which i also like, but I just picked up a pair of dark rich Burgundy colored jeans from Express, and i cant wait to wear them with a tan sweater, and my dark brown cap toe lace up boots . Don’t sleep on dark Burgundy bottoms Ashley.

Boot question: I have a pair of dark brown/burgundy lace up boots as a first pair and I don't know if I should get a lace up medium brown(brandy) pair or a lace up matte black? These are the thursdays style boots, for reference.
Suits some people but not everyone, burgundy can come across as being a bit too bold of a neutral colour and can stick out compared to the likes of olive green, navy, beige, black and grey. For shorts it works well, but for trousers it's 50-50. Generally I'd say the darker the shade of burgundy the better and in terms of pairing I'd say black and navy work best as the top half if you were to wear burgundy trousers/chinos.
I hope Ashley can respond to this, as I agree with her position but can't articulate the reason why. I have two pairs of burgundy pants that I never wear because they never look right, even with a super-neutral shirt.
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou Yeah the best acid test is to see how they look with other coloured pants and if you find that they all look better compared to the burgundy ones, then there's your answer. But like I said before, black and navy will be guaranteed to work well with it.

I don't know whether or not I should be offended by that?... like initially, it is really bugging me, and I am not a prep or jock... Is that ignorance on their part? Is timeless style like you recommend "preppy"?... and should I be bothered by being called preppy? Been really stressed and self-conscious because of this lately:/... making me second guess my style.

Calling those beige chinos khaki colored is an american thing as in Europe khaki is the a brownish shade of olive military green. Cultural differences also seem to be relevant for the color navy blue. A lot of american RUclipsr refer to navy and then quite often show pictures of suits that are a "lighter dark blue" and would be called royal blue in Europe. We Europeans see navy as a shade 2 nouances lighter than black, with midnight blue lying right in between black and navy.

"Preppy" isn't an insult or pejorative. It's just a certain kind of look. Nothing wrong with it.
Preppy can be offensive if you don't like that look. But you could have more than one look, example: preppy, casual, rugged, etc
what is the difference between Tan, Sand and Camel ... it seems sometimes you use them interchangeably...
