Really annoyed at the reporter who keeps calling the British "losers"...we get it, they lost the war, but this play is about so much more than that. Then he got all smug with them with the "well, what's your answer" like he's getting his rocks off at rubbing it in their faces or something. And this is coming from an American

I know! Especially considering they probably are from immigrant families and that if those three actors would have been alive back then, they might have been enslaved. The reporter's attitude was so throw-back. The purpose of the play is humanity transcending time, race, nationality .
From the British perspective, we really aren't that phased by it. Our history stretches back a few thousand years, the American war of independence isn't really focused on in schools. I studied it as a history grad/major. For the Brits we just want to see the really great broadway show promoting equality, diversity and pretty sick beats thats been tearing up New York for years! It was worth the wait!

I don't know who this guy is, but he's way more abrasive than most interviewers I've seen in an entertainment interview. You'd think he's got some beef with the Brits, for real! The male anchor needs to watch the musical. Hamilton does not make fun of the French, it celebrates their support in the Revolutionary War. Lafayette gives a couple of chuckles and King Louis' head has a great quip, but the British, Charles Lee, and Samuel Seabury are the targets.

They got in a fight and had a rap battle. I went to go see it and there is no bad things about the French and also the French were talking about Alex so yeah.

The way he talks about Britain enjoying the musical despite losing the war is ironic, given how many Vietnam War movies the US made

No one in America cares about Vietnam War. It was a very unpopular war that many people believe we had no business in fighting; which is why so many people burned draft card and escaped to Canada to avoid the draft. We don’t even really talk about in our history classes just gets glossed over.

When I saw it in Colorado, when he went “forever, and ever,” etc, oh the second “and ever” he got this super angry controlling tone, and then went back to this nice sweet tone for the rest of the Evers.
I really wanted to see how would the British version of King George looked like. Did they made him sing the song in a more modest and less funny way?
As an Englishman I can say he was by far the greatest and funniest part of the entire show.
Trần Tường nope, I went to see Hamilton in London and have seen it on Disney+, and personally found the one in London more funny. He was amazing u were laughing so much but there was still the scared aspect it was amazing
I saw it a week ago here in London and the cast is absolutely brilliant! Much better than I had expected! Everyone loved king George, people aren’t sensitive about being “the losers”. It was a long time ago. Btw the fact that only the person who buys the ticket can see it is a great rule that prevent people/robots from buying and reselling masses of tickets to a higher price. It’s a much better system than in America (I met an American family who’d come to London to see it and they love our system saying that the way tickets are sold in America is ridiculous).
As someone who saw both the Original cast and the London show(As well as a musician myself) I must wholeheartedly disagree. The London show lacks everything that made the Broadway version great. If you are unable to see that you were simply blinded by the novelty created by the hype.
I mean I haven't seen any other cast live than the London cast so I can't properly compare but I have listened to the original cast album thousands of times (and seen clips of the original cast) so I had high expectations. What was it that made the Broadway show great that the London show lacked? I maintain that the London cast (June 2018) was amazing and I couldn't have asked for anything to be any different.
The difference was the intensity created by the sustained increased tempo.Which the Broadway show held they also managed to maintain complete clarity. The London show however did not taking continuous small pauses at time when they were meant to be powering through. This ruins both the intensity and also shows the difference in class as the cast could not fully perform the songs.

I attended this show on 5/10 and it was awesome! There were so many Americans in the audience..."it is less expensive to come over here for a long weekend and see the show than go to New York!" King George was hilarious!

Eric Bowers sort of makes sense, though. The American Revolution is just a small drop in the history of Britain, but it's the beginning (and arguably the most important part) of ours.

We’re not bothered, you deserved your freedom but the fact you think we feel different about the show is just absolutely ridiculous. It's not like the real Aaron Burr had an American accent. He was an aristocratic colonial, probably with something close to RP with a mixture of classic Dutch in his accent, and Hamilton probably had some French Creole quirks hidden behind a fake proper colonial New England dialect.
Modern English and modern American (Midwest or New England) accents are equally as foreign compared to the sounds of the 18th century folks. There are recordings of seniors in the late 19th century that might give one the idea of what their more proper grandparents spoke like.

Chris Gray We should have went full on into the war or should have not entered it all. It was a huge mistake how the war was handled, but it was an equally huge mistake for how the Soldiers were treated upon returning home. Most were drafted and had no choice, yet they were spit on and treated like garbage when they returned. We also helped win in World War II and without our help, inevitably Britain would have been defeated as they couldn’t hold out forever with no alies

As an American it's just annoying to always hear how much my fellow Americans obsess over their freedom and independence. The war was centuries ago shut up and enjoy the musical no matter where it's at!
Okay. I'm only halfway (3:25) through the video, but what does it matter if the British/English decide to allow other British/English people experience the musical/play of Hamilton? Just because England and America fought like 200 years ago doesn't make it any different. It's not weird or illegal that/if English people want to see Hamilton.
Take me, as an example. I'm English. I don't live in London, but near it (approximately a 45min - 1hr drive), and because of that, I cannot fly all the way to New York just to see the musical.
In all honesty (I've watched clips of the original musical on RUclips etc.), the musical that I saw was equally amazing to the American one, and the cast is equally wonderful as the original/current American broadway cast.
I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding the narration, but nonetheless, this is my opinion. It may change in the near future, but for now, it stays as it is. Also, please do not refer to British/English people/the English country as [the] "losers [land]". It's disrespectful.
EDIT: Um, excuse me, but have you ever even seen Hamilton? (5:47) The British and Americans do *NOT* make 'fun' of the French. France and America were working together to fight the war of independence against Britain. At no point of the musical does anyone insult France.... I think

Brad Murray have not been to Broadway but want to been to the west end because london is a few hours on the train from me and have to be on a plane overnight to do Broadway so have seen the london cast so also to be fair isn't there one character in Hamilton who is french so as well as pepole critsising us english for not doing a perfect american acent shouldn't the same be said for the french accent are full cast in the west end are from all the way around the world also my family on my mums side are originaly from japan but like Hamilton moving from the Caribbean to New York they moved grom Japan to England

The difference is that England has a much longer history than America, so when considering the American war of independence it’s a small event in our history whilst the biggest in there’s. So it is understandable that it can be lost in translation when considering the actual emotions towards ‘winning’ or ‘losing’
I was online at 3:30 am CST to order our tickets when they first went on sale. We loved it! The cast and theater are amazing! I would travel to the UK again to see this cast and show!

This cast is amazing on and off stage ! I’m a family friend of one of the cast members and we got to go backstage . We got to meet a bunch of them and they were all so sweet ! ❤️ (oh and I hate how the reporter calls them losers 😒)
We didn’t lose we just surrendered because we were fighting France and Spain at the same time. As stated in ‘what comes next’ “you cheat with the French now I’m fighting with France and with Spain.” We only stopped fighting the Americans because we couldn’t fight three countries at the same time. Money was low due to the war.

I think the American obsession about winning the revolutionary war with Britain is quite unhealthy :p Americans need to realise no one else is as hung up about the revolutionary war as they are! Plus Britain had more important colonies elsewhere and never commited as much in the Americas as it did in places like India :/ but you don't see the English getting upset over it :p Edit : I made this remark in regard to the reporters comment "land of the losers", not Hamilton. I loved the musical. It's just seeing some Americans like this reporter go on about Britain losing is rather silly.

We really don't care that much. Not as much as this (embarrassing) reporter makes it out to be. Nobody calls the British "The Losers" for instance. Before this musical, the Revolutionary War was just something you learned in History class, or an excuse to have fireworks and barbecue on July 4th. This musical really brought it alive in a way I think most Americans never imagined it. There's a difference in seeing young, vibrant people who remind you of people you know "living" through this American Revolution and reading boring passages about it in your 8th grade textbook. Also, I wouldn't say the British weren't that committed to the Americas. It was popular territory in Europe in general. And the British did go to war with the Rebels about it (I say "rebels" because some of those people ultimately ended up being Canadians, because at the time... the only clear distinctions were which colonies were British and which were French, and some of the British ones became Canada.) And I think India, which wasn't under British rule until way after American independence (Am. Ind. circa 1783, Indian occupation or British Raj circa 1858), became as central as it did because Britain no longer had their main/most lucrative American territories. (The Southern part of the US grew a lot of crops, which were lucrative af. Plus, Britain could tax the American colonies higher, which they took full advantage of.) Also important to remember is, at the time, Britain was obsessed with Empire, which is why they had soooo many colonies around the world. Losing the American colonies was a bad thing, for them. Especially because it set the precedent for other revolutions around the world. But also, they still have a territory here, in Canada. Canada is still part of the British Empire. (Orrr however you say it. At any rate, the British Monarchy is their leadership aside from Trudeau, and Elizabeth is their Queen, too.) And before you say I do seem to care a lot; I'm just a nerd lol. I don't care, in that I'm American and think our country is so great or anything. I just like accuracy, and discussing history is fun for me. And, as a person of color, I'm not that impressed with the American Revolution because, well... slavery was still legal for another century (Declared Independence in 1776, slavery was abolished in 1865 and some people remained enslaved for up to another decade). So, "freedom" was a false concept, anyway. Freedom from Great Britain, meanwhile you're keeping African people enslaved, and you're displacing or murdering thousands of Native people. Yeah, no, we're not deluded about our revolution and what it really meant.
most people think it’s stupid how patriotic some people are. But the revolutionary war is what started the whole country, it’s probably the most significant period in US history. Other than maybe soldiers and history teachers most people don’t care that much about. The real reason people are making a big deal out of is because of the quality of the play- it’s funny, tragic, and the music is surprisingly good and broad. The reporter was being kinda stupid and trying to be funny, but yeah most people don’t think like that (I don’t know anyone who does) Oh and if it wasn’t obvious enough I’m American

I saw these terrific actors on the west end a couple of days ago and am still out of breathe...it was amazing. there wasn't even a empty chair in the entire place and during the encore there was not a single seat taken with everybody giving a standing ovation.
I saw the West end production back in January, and the whole cast has since then made it to the cast of my heart. I love them all so much and wish there was an official recording of their version of Hamilton.

This is not at all a criticism, the cast sounds awesome, but is it just me or do the songs seem a bit "off"? Not bad, just like they've been brought down a pitch or put into a different key maybe? I don't have enough musical knowledge to indentify exactly what it is, but I can notice a difference.

I think in most musicals, if someone in one of the casts has songs that don't suit their vocal range, particularly with solos, they change the key slightly to accommodate for it.

This Burr has been very divisive. I saw both their London stand-ins and thought they were excellent, though - much closer to what I heard on the soundtrack recording.
EtherealAstraea I think it’s just the way they’ve interpreted the song and music. Also, we’re so used to hearing Lin, Leslie etc that it sounds so strange to hear other people sing it. I’m British, and I am completely agree that the British cast do sound slightly off, but I think it’s just a case of hearing it differently.

I saw Hamilton in London before I saw it in the US and it was amazing. The audience got a KICK out of making fun of the king, just like we get a kick out of making fun of our government.

I saw one of his standbys just yesterday perform and he was absolutely incredible. We thought him and Eliza were the best of the cast, as well as king George

I'm 99% certain, a bigger percentage of the people who liked the play, were British. In the UK, we love how King George is portraid to maximum extent. It's only sad we didn't see more of him. We don't really care we lost the US revolution, nor the 'patriotic' fever in it. It's just a damn good play and musical.

Not in the UK. No way. You'd be bailed from the theatre.
Glad to hear it. This is a major problem. In the past people would start conversations before a performance. Now everyone is texting or surfing, in the past people would use film cameras. They were easy to stop but now with phones all I usually see is a glow during performances. One women once streamed part of it back to her family. Really rude.
When I saw the show I didn’t really notice anyone using their phones. I had to quickly use my phone because I’d forgotten to text my relatives that I’d reached the theatre safely, but that was it. Otherwise I hate using the phone myself or seeing someone else using it. I mean how can you pay attention to your phone when you’re watching such and awesome musical??!
No you’re not allowed to use them or flash photography during performances, if you are spotted by an usher you will be asked to turn it off or to leave
I recently got into Hamilton because of the release of the film so it’s strange for me to see and hear a whole different cast.

We have the best Angelica, but their Angelica is amazing, and she is really slick and smooth with her movements than ours, ours was more stiff, and both had amazing voices.

Our Eliza suprised me physically and mentally, and blew me away with chills, but their Eliza is amazing, but both have the most amazing voices in the real show, but their Eliza is way better.

Honestly, what I can think about Pegyy is she is underestimated considering she dies later in the play, that's one of the reasons, but she doesn't die until the close to end last songs, sometime near congratulation, both Peggy's are amazing, but their Peggy shows way more expression.*

Although, Lin Manuel created the show, he is not really as much of an actor or singer, he sings good, don't underestimate what I am saying, but their Hamilton guy is a bit better.
*Burr*
Honestly, their Burr sounds quirky and weird, he has a good voice, but he is very tiff in some parts to me, and it confuses me, I haven't seen the play in their country, but from the clips I've seen he looks weird to me, and his singing is eh- our Burr is a bit better than theirs, and shows way more emotion and sings really well.
For the Hamilsquad, and Washington, I really don't know what to say about them.
{Edit 1;} Although, I do like the overpowering, and voice of someone being in command thay Washington has on their show, not like ours doesn't have that though.
{Edit 2;} Honestly, Lin Manuel shows more expression that their Hamilton actor, and he can also keep in key more than their Hamilton, so it confuses me, also the Burr sounds really weird to me.

Maximus it’s seriously not hard to put on an American accent when singing. Even I can do it. They really should’ve tried but it’s still a good cast.
I saw the west end version last month and everyone other than the british characters had perfect american accents, idk why but the footage didn’t really do that much justice
But... The American accent wasn't really that around yet considering it was the 1700s and most had just moved from England to America????
Plus, I don't see how an accent really affects the overall performance. You clearly haven't seen it, so why judge on a few short clips??

Lafayette was one of the heroes of the US independence, sent by the French king to emmerder the Brits :p the original character in the US adopted a french accent while singing to make it more real, not to mock him. Usually musicals cast don't cross borders. A classic like Phantom of the Opera would have a cast in France using french actors. Sweden would use Swedish actors, etc. When the Brits write a great musical you would have to travel to England. When the show gets to America it gets a American cast.
The original cast was pure gold, for sure, but this cast looks solid too. :)
There are Equity and American Equity regulations governing American and British casting not to say the substantial costs incurred In accommodating a full cast transfer.

That's definitely a matter of opinion. I prefer the WEC Angelica to the OBC Angelica, but I prefer the OBC Hamilton to the WEC Hamilton. Sometimes it's a matter of what your personal preferred sound is, and sometimes it's entirely for technical reasons. For example, I was lucky enough to see the West End show very recently and I noticed that the actor who plays Burr has a speech impediment that makes him a bit difficult to understand (No offence to him or anything, He's still a fantastic singer despite the impediment) so I prefer the OBC Burr, simply because he's easier to listen to. And In some cases I can't decide, like, I prefer the OBC Jefferson/Laffayette's voice, But I prefer the WEC Jefferson/Laffayette's energy on stage (I mean he is the master of sass, sweet jesus). Anyway, I'm rambling so I'm gonna stop.

I know this isn't a very important detail, but they casted a dark skinned, plus sized woman in a leading role. As a dark skinned, plus sized woman, this is a big deal to me.
As a Brit I for one don't care or hold any bad blood about the American war of independence, and I really don't think any other Brit does either.. Someone really needs to explains that to the reporter, he was really trying to make the report about that. Yes it is somewhat ironic, however it proves how much it's not an issue, it's just a story from our history.
