This is one of the things I love about this movie. Even without seeing season 1 and 2, this movie still can hold up as a standalone film. The artstyle is different too which is a nice touch
also idk if it's just me, but the sound of their shoes as they walk is almost mesmerizing. it's a sound you hardly ever hear in most anime, but it's so pronounced in this film.

This entire opening scene is a textbook intro to artistic filmmaking. There so many things it gets right, it's amazing.

Nozomi seems to lead the way, always a few steps ahead, setting the pace, turning to check if Mizore keeps in, waiting for her to catch up. But in fact it's Mizore who holds the keys to music, it's Mizore that's letting Nozomi in before herself. She's holding back, but at the end of the film the role are reversed, Nozomi is waiting at the gate, and it's Mizore who confidently takes the first step out of that allegorical cage

They're both Liz, and they're both the Blue Bird. Although Mizore seems to be the Blue Bird at first, she is also desperate to keep Nozumi by her side, keeping Nozomi in a cage so that they don't have to part. And although Nozumi is always the leader and always seemingly the cheerful one, she is also held back by Mizore's... for lack of a better word, *neediness.* She is unable to safely set her own course out of concern for how it will affect Mizore. Neither of them can be truly happy until they let the bird out of the cage. Like the Bird, they both want to stay there forever... and like Liz, they both learn that what the Bird needs is freedom.
Which doesn't have to be a sad ending. Nozumi likes happy endings, and so do I. I think their freedom makes both of them more themselves, more able to be true friends and support each other. There is no longer a disjointed relationship where they *need* each other. They can walk side by side, going to different destinations perhaps, but for the first time, the end shows them harmonious and connected.

      @@TheWickedWizardOfOz1 100% agree, well said!
Also, musically, the cadence of their step is so much closer, almost in sync. Nozomi no more has to stop to stay close to Mizore, and Mizore can finally walk *with* Nozomi, instead of running after her.

You are the first one I see mentioning this, it’s exactly what I thought, even without watching the main series beforehand, this give me a great idea of what’s in Mizore’s mind, without a single line, I really enjoy these kind of subtle storytelling, and this opening sequence is just genesis overall

Mesmerizing sequence. Pure art. The distillation of emotion through sensory experience. The performance of gesture. The song and dance of living. Still can't believe it exists. You can't be more of a visionary as a director and composer to make a sequence of two girls walking into school this captivating, this emotionally rich and nuanced. God bless Kyoto Animation and the wonderful people who delicately and lovingly brought this to life.

The introduction scene of this movie just sets KyoAni's storytelling ahead of those other animation studios, they just show how animation can be used not just to portray a particular scene but to use it to TELL a story. This movie is just pure art, another masterpiece from one of the most outstanding studios in the animation industry

The sound when they are walking is not parallel, and it is actually the hint to show "disjoint" relation between them. And the best thing is their walking sound becomes parallel in the end of the show, hint of "joint".

i really like this talent of telling a story by actually saying anything. Two completely different genre but i felt this had the same kind of magic the movie of Sergio Leone's have, like the last duel in the good the bad and the ugly. Very simple, but yet 5 min or more longer scene were no one talks and you might think nothing is really happening in action but yet you feel looped completely in what you are watching because you got the feeling that everything you are looking at has been arranged perfectly with no flaw

My favourite scene in both the movie and the whole Hibike storyline. This film hit really close to home. I didn't have this kind of obsession on romantic level, but during high school and first university years I was really desperate for connections in a very similar way to Mizore. I really wnated to have close friends that I could trust (have trust issues), but was both afraid of, and lacked skills and initiative to make that sort of connection. I, like Mizore, depended solely on being at the same place at the end of a class to wring out pieces of interaction.
So all interactions felt really close to home
I was able to let go of most of my anxiety and neediness thanks to having better relationship with my family by engaging emotionally only with media, but now I still don't know how to get to know people and have a fiction consumption addiction(
At least now my interactions with people are in a way more genuine because I interact with people because I want to and not because of loneliness. The problem is, I stopped wanting to talk with people, so my friendships are eroding with time, and I spend a lot of time on youtube/fanfics

    • @ufo590
      @ufo590 5 месяцев назад +3

In the main story, the protagonists are dealing with brass instruments such as euphoniums and trumpets, which produce a clear, contoured tone when blown.
Their tones seem to express their shining youth as tones.
In contrast, the protagonist of this film plays a woodwind instrument. The tone is blurred yet resonant, and evokes a sense of fragility like that of an ink painting.
In other words, I believe that these differences in color tones are deliberately used to express the sensitivity and character of the characters to the maximum extent possible.

    • @guildfairytail

@@ufo590 this is a really nice interpretation. To me all the color tones seems to want to resalt the color blue which is also part of the title of the movie and i liked this choice very much
