  • Urban Stories is a place where I talk with people that is in the creative business and the other day I thought, there are so many people that I would like to talk with but are not with us anymore. And so I developed that thought and, let’s make a fictive conversation with an artists. The first one I came to think of, someone that’s been with me for a long time, is Rory Gallagher. I brilliant musician, a fantastic guitarist, singer and songwriter. It’s of course not easy to ask questions and get the right answers so …... I answered the questions myself but I am really hoping for comments from people that might now better than me. We “talked” about old band members like my favourite drummer Ted McKenna that played with Rory Gallagher on two studio albums Photo-Finish and Top Priority and the live album Stage Struck, my favourite Rory Gallagher album cover Against The Grain. We “talked” about what he did outside the music industry, and of course his song writing. I so much wish that I could have had a chance to talk with Rory Gallagher in person but this is I guess the next best thing. This conversation would have been so much longer I’m sure.
And, if you have any thoughts about what Rory would have answered on my questions, please let me know. Thank you very much for listen to me and my guest’s stories. Take care!

He did paint. He did draw. He drew a sketch of Bob Dylan, and gave it to the sister of a Taste band member. He also kept journals. He was also a very deeply spiritual And religious man. An extensive library of reading material. He loved the cinema as well. He loved pawn shops, he found most of his guitars there. He rarely got anything fresh off the line. He tells me, thats because they had no Memories. He tells me that although streaming exposes him to new generations of hus music, cutting an album in this day and age would make him go off his nutter. Because he took issue with a lot of engineers and p r oducers even back then. Mixing dubbing and the time it takes now? Oh hell no. Rory often did it in one take. And he pulled it out of his band mates to get it right the first-time or else. He told me what his perfect day would be like...but he says thats private. The answer to your last question? The short answer...he had a muse. Someone that brought out the best in him. Someone he saw as an inspiration. But he never knew her. So his guitar...became an extension of her. That's why he was loyal to it. Kept repairing it. Poured his blood sweat and tears into it. He once called her bride of Frankenstein 😂. She kept falling apart, and hed put her back together with different "body parts". That's why he never touched the finish. She was stripped down to the bare bones, but he never wanted to change her. Because he loved her just the way she was. All her flaws scars .Shewas rescued when she stolen from him, so he vowed that nobody would ever take her from him again. He wont tell me who the muse is, but that hes still waiting for her. She outlived him. He told me to tellyou Thank you, that what you see in him means a lot to him. Touching and inspiring every single one of you was his Purpose here, and he did it in a quiet unassuming way. It brought him joy he said. He wanted that intimacy with everyone, and he wouldn't trade those connections for all the tea in China he said lol. He says, keep asking questions. Keep your curiosity alive. And bullocks to the likes or lack thereof. One day you could ask the right question. 😉🍀👍 Thank you for turning up in my feed out of nowhere . Guess that's how it seems to work i think. Because that's what happened to me. Like he fell out of the sky one day. With Edged in Blue. And I've been inspired, just like you. Take care, God Bless.❤

Hey there. Thank you very much for your reply 🙏 Very interesting to read and much information that I didn't know. I'm sure because he was a very private soul that there isn't much information around. My answeres to the questions is just what I thought would be his answere so thank you for filling in on some of the blanks.
I absolutely understand what he thought about recording and that in the first take is when you want to nail it. That's how they did in the old days and in my opinion the best way. And I think there's a lot of bands nowdays that gone back to that way of recording too.
Yes it still bugs me that those records got stolen even if it was 40 years ago now. A couple of Taste albums and a couple of Rory albums.
Anyway, thank you once again for your reply. Take care.

He formed a little club with shirts for darts throwing one time. 😊. He’d probably like how the fans sing along……at first anyway. Personally it ruins the show for me but does show a lot of love and is a nice scene….but drowns out the original artist. He did routinely drink unless he was quitting that year towards the end times. His dad was musician and his mom loved singing and after his dad left there was a push to become the man of the house being first born. As introverted as Rory was he was a born leader.

Oh! he says he's sorry your collection was stolen, mate. He said...what goes around, comes around.
