    First time I've ever seen a conductor that I actually got what he was doing. I freely admit to being a layman. This is one of my favorites

      I am a student of orchestra conducting and he does things totally against what I've been trained to do. Yet it works and looks very entertaining! :)

      I'm not very good with subdiving myself so personally if he were tp conduct like that I would've been lost. But then again judging base on the nature of the song I can see why he conducted like that

      Haha i Was exactly about to write the same, i must admit this looks more like What a conductor should do than any other conductor ive seen, but then again i have no idea or knowledge on how they should do it. He Looked really focused on specific parts of the orcestra instead just looking generally and waving hes hands at random as it looks like with other conductors

      Truetly, it isn't so hard, it's just learn about flexibilty and fluency on the wrist and play the notes in tune. (sorry if my english is bad, but I speak spanish ;))

    Edvard Grieg wrote 'In The Hall of the Mountain King' as a satire of terrible music and said he could barely stand to hear it. It is now one of his most played and best remembered pieces. (Info from QI)

      It is my favorite of all time. I heard it as a child in elementary school, & I’ve loved it ever since. I’m in my 50s now.

      @@icbmDigital thanks if that's not sarcasm. the best version that I have heard was on the Reader's Digest CD in 2002, published as I understand it only in Russia. it is clear that this is not a recording of a live performance, but you may be interested. I do not know what year the recording was made there, but an amazing picture poured from the speakers of the musical center. I have a FLAC image of this CD, so if you are interested I can send you this track in lossless format through a file hosting service. sorry for poor English, and From Russia with Love!

    I developed my love for classical music as a kid, by watching old "Bugs Bunny/Road Runner" cartoons on Saturday mornings. This song was played in one of those cartoons. Someone was chasing Bugs Bunny and this song was played during the chase.

    I heard a lot of versions of this classical piece, and finally the conductor seems to understand how important it is to start out at a slow tempo, not just soft in volume, to create the necessary anticipation. Well done sir, I applaud you!

    My favorite part about this song: it always sounds like there’s a choir somewhere in the end singing, but there’s not, I’m not sure if that’s the violins or some other instrument but it amazes me

      It does sound like there are high-pitched little wails or screams when the full orchestra comes in. It's some combination of the winds, the flutes and piccolo or something. But, yeah, it absolutely sounds like eerie, wordless voices. By the way, have you heard the choral version of this piece? As part of the incidental music for _Peer Gynt,_ the trolls come in at the end. This tune also shows up later when Peer escapes and is hunted by the trolls. If you love this music, look for the complete work. It's all on RUclips. Search for "peer gynt complete incidental music."
